It's the sort of restaurant that charges $25 + for the mains but the beer list is mainly Vb and Tooheys New and also the sort of "Italian" restaurant that serves cheesy seafood sauce on top of chicken breast, do they do that in Italy I wonder?
Haloumi salad was massive and pretty nice. Lamb Loin main was pretty tasteless and the chicken dish was a bit wrong although my partner liked it. Good service though and its big and it was packed.
Too many of the usual gripes. Ordered tap water 4 times before insisting someone bring it (and 'well I ordered it for you, so not my fault' doesn't work). Osso bucco 'big special' but before 7 pm on a weeknight, they'd run out. Later, ordered 2 double espressos, whatever arrived was a joke.
Complained to waitress. 'well, that's what they gave me' she said. So I took them back to the 'barista' who apologised! food is pretty tasteless and it is noisy. We live locally, but won't return. I'm worried that the 'transient nature' of the Spot crowd has let the restauranteurs drop their game. Hope not.
Service good. We had the chicken which was dried up. When leaving the restaurant mentioned it to a waitress who asked what we had, on telling her replied. Oh it is always dried up. We shall not return.
It was our wedding anniversary so what better than to book the babysitter (something we rarely could afford to do), try that Italian restaurant and watch a movie afterwards. We had heard great reviews about Pinocchio's. As we were seated and with two hours allowed for dinner before a 5 minutes walk to the Ritz expectations were high.
The ambience was good and the staff friendly. The entree arrive after 10 minutes and the plates collected 10 minutes later. It was very nice and expectations for our mains were high. 30 minutes later we didn't query where our main was as there was plenty of time. An hour into the nite we did. Yes there was still plenty of time but we were getting a little hungry 40 minutes after the entree. At 1 hour 20 we asked and told them we had a movie coming up.
About 20 minus later I got up, went to the desk and enquired where our pastas were. It was 20 minutes till movie time. 10 minutes later I went up to tell them we were leaving. The couple behind us wanting to get a table asked us how our meals were. We said we didn't know as after 1 hour 50 we hadn't got our meals yet. They left. So did we. If we hurry we may make our movie. I guess our anniversary dinner would just have to be chips in the movie theatre if we hurried.
As we walked out the door the waiter came running and put a meals on the table. With 5 minutes to the movies we just kept going. About 10 meters down the waiter came running abusing us telling us that we shouldn't be badmouthing them to prospective guests. My wife said we didn't, they asked a question "How was the food?" we answered "I don't know as after 1:50 we haven't got it yet and we are now late for the movie". That is not bad mouthing, its just stating a fact.
Our waiter then turned really rude and abusive and told us that our expectations were totally unrealistic. At this point I could not comprehend that after all this, no apologies', nothing, just a comment that our expectations were totally unrealistic. 1 Hour 50 minutes and no mains, surely this isn't standard.
Anyway, we just moved on. Obviously the movie had started, and my wife just wanted to go home. What a waste of a night and a babysitter. I would recommend that unless you think 2 hours is a reasonable time frame for a main, give this place a miss.
This restaurant if full every night of the week. They must be doing something right, and they are. Reasonable prices, large portions and tasty food. BYO. Great value for money and almost always a fun night.
Friendly staff and management that always make you feel very welcome, competitively priced portions of always good food, (looking at some of the comments here, ok, fair enough it isn't 'exceptional' but how often do you find somewhere that truly is with every dish, regardless of price!) and a lovely atmosphere.
Easily the most reliable place I know in Randwick after living at the Spot for 6 years. I find it odd that there are some extreme reviews on here, I just would not believe that anyone could have a terrible night at Pinnochio's, maybe some dish might not live up to expectation, but from my frequent experiences here I find it hard to believe some of the negative comments. This is a favourite of many visitors and family, with a few insisting on going there whenever they come to stay.
I have seen more compelling food in a halfway shelter. I was called "mate" when offered cheese with my uninspiring bolognese and told I couldn't keep the small cheese bowl because other tables needed it. If my dog were with me I would feed her my leftovers but keep the vet handy on speed dial.
Like other reviewers have pointed out, this is a eatery masquerading as a fine-dining restaurant. The next time I'm pining for indigestion, acid reflux and feel like being treated condescendingly I'll zip on over.
I rarely write reviews on this site, but I feel I must share with those tempted to visit just how bland the food is. Half-way through my meal I was starting to think that there was something wrong with my tongue, until my wife asked if my steak tasted of anything. It was cooked perfectly, but was coveered in a sauce which I can only describe as skimmed milk seasoned with a hint of pink colouring.
To add further insult, my single carrot still had some soil stuck to it, which at least added some flavour. Perhaps, I should have gone with the "risotto" cooked with Jasmine rice!
I have never had a more annoying or unpleasant experience in a restaurant in my life. We must of had someone come to our table every 2 minutes of the whole time we were there. It was very uncomfortable and hard for me to eat and enjoy my meal while the staff where hovering over me watching me digest my food piece by piece.
The prawn pizza was so soggy I thought it may of swam to my table and I'm not even italian and I can make a better bruschetta than that. Overall very disappointing. I think they need new staff that are not so annoying.
