I simply cannot understand why this place is always so busy and popular. It seems popular with bikies and children, a strange mix if ever there was one. The young teenage staff are very surly and unfriendly. But sadly I have come to expect that from youngsters these days. No sense of customer service.
The location is nice, it is on the Old Pacific Highway, with a nice view over the National Park, although a bit noisy from the F3 below. Sadly, I think the meat pies are hideous. Horrible pastry and bland filling.
The fruit pies are not much better and I simply cannot believe they are home-made, brought frozen and shoved in the microwave I expect. It does not matter what pie you have, they are all bland and all taste the same. It is like some amazing phenomenon. I once blindfolded my friend and she could not tell the difference between the lamb pie and a beef pie and she is a chef by trade!
However, we use to go there occasionally because it is close to home and the pies although below standard were very handy for grungy guts hangover snacks. The last time I was there (have vowed never to return) was in January 2008. After one bite of the beef pie and two bites of the chicken pie, I threw them both in the bin.
They smelt like dog food and tasted how I imagine dog food would taste. I felt nauseous for hours afterwards.
When we got home I actually rang the café and asked if they had used dog food in the pie by mistake and suggested they check the rest of the pies.
I was being deadly serious but the young lady who answered the phone told me to... well I can’t repeat it here.
The service from the young girls there is just fantastic. But there is one that stands out from the rest her name is Emily, she is polite and always smiles and always willing to say hi. I really congratulate Pie in the Sky for employing fantastic staff. So if you see Emily be sure to say hi, good work Emily keep it up.
Not tourist oriented which is great, but competent (albeit pies) food, fabulous coffee and genuine friendly service to match. Unbeatable views over the Hawkesbury. Beats the pants off anything between Sydney and Gosford for a bike or scooter stop. More "grey" than "hoon" oriented.
Went there today 5th July 2008 in the late afternoon, coffee ok passable, beef pie ok obviously it spent a long time in the heated display cabinet, it was just palatable but the beef pieces was excellent. The fruit pies, here we where lucky they where just out of the oven, excellent. BUT the family lamb pie? Yes it was frozen got it home defrosted - then we tasted it and then we chucked it out. It was off way off! So beware!
Great view. My favourite is the lamb pies. We've been trying to try the different pies (and have tried the chicken and beef pies too!) but the lamb is definitely a winner... and so we revert to them often.
This is a fantastic little place, not so much hole in the wall, but more like just off the face of a cliff!! The food is excellent - they have won many awards for their pies and the staff are friendly and helpful always with tips as how best to warm the pies if you take them home. It can get a little uncomfortable to sit outside in summer, contending with the wind over the cliff plus the flies is irksome but on a clear, fine day the view is brilliant. For just under $5 the pies are brilliant value. Most definitley recommend it to anyone!
The best pies in Sydney!! especially the steak and pepper pies. the blueberry pie for dessert is awesome as well. Good prices but the service is generally friendly but a bit ditzy, they forgot about my order!! Apart from that, really good.
We frequent here and the pies are just delish! You cannot get a better pie anywhere and the variety is quite staggering. Their fruit pies have reduced in size so I think they are a bit of a ripoff. The staff are generally pretty good, some are a bit rude (but I think that's the area). It is always packed every single day of the week. I highly recommend it if you need quick, nice food. It's not really a 'restaurant'.
Love the pies! I'm an extremely fussy eater and not too many places have chicken pies and this many variety of pies. They are fantastic! When they say it is chicken it's just chicken. When they say it is chicken and mushroom it is just chicken and mushroom. There is nothing worse than asking for a chicken pie and you end up with mostly peas and corn. Thank you Pie in the Sky for only putting the ingredients in that you say is in it.
The pies are fantastic and inexpensive. The ambience takes you back several decades which is why it is so appealing. The service isn't overly friendly but you don't come here for table service or fine dining.
