Not sure why there is a drinks column for ratings, I thought we were reviewing the dining area - but anyway.

I agree with Kengoey69, the club should address the issues with this Chinese eatery, particularly their attitude problems, as I have encountered it before also. I too am a member, only of recent times, and have also made the mistake of eating there a few times.

The Vietnamese Beef Noodle soup is ok, but their Laksa is lame; no heat and very little flavour. I have never needed to add a bowl full of chopped chilli and several tablespoons of soy to a laksa before. The pasta is the pre-packaged style with sauces that just lacking. But I suppose it's my fault, ordering Italian cuisine from a Chinese venue. One night, one of the staff encouraged me to have the steak special, $13 for a rump steak with free schooner of beer. I thought why not! Now I know why not, it was the toughest, flavourless steak, full of sinew, I have ever had.

I think they survive purely because the club is popular with its raffles and gaming promotions, and people tolerate the mediocre food as they need to eat. The fast food cafe is only slightly better. I ordered a meat pie (At $4.50 mind you) and wondered what the delay was, given I could see them in the Pie warmer, then I heard the microwave beep...oh my....I received a microwaved pie! Soft and sloppy. When I asked about the pies in the warmer, I was advised that it was not switched on!

So in summary, go there on a full stomach, or leave to dine elsewhere.

This club needs to get rid of the contractors that run the Bistro. As a supportive member, I have made the mistake of dining here three times, and had an issue every time. Today, I ordered the crisp skin chicken with tomato rice from the board for the $9 member price. The lady charged me $13. When I asked why it was $9 on the board, she told me 'that small one, you have big one OK, no worries'. Beware, beware check what you are being charged here!

In this day and age, they don't do Eftpos, the food is your standard boring Chinese fare or baymarie roadkill, there's a kitchen employee (who if you complain about your disappointment relating to the over or under cooked food) will actually come to your table, stand over you waving the rejected plate in his hands scrunching the food with his fingers, and threaten you because you dared to speak out. The owner seems to spend much of his time on the punt upstairs, but nevertheless will also come to your table and tell you how wrong your opinion is, telling you how popular his food is. Listen, I don't care how damn popular or aggressive you and your bully staff are or become, it's me who has an issue with your awful food here!!

Word of advice, directors, here's the recipe for an RSL going belly up. You need a good supporting restaurant for your long term viability!! Please understand this review is on the pseudo Asian operation, not the 'quick' snack operation (burgers, sandwiches, wedges etc) which appears to be run by different operators. Give this place a miss, if you want to eat anything other than nuts from the vending machine, go to the Bowlo instead.
