Well prepared, simple dishes. Eye fillet was the best meal, which is surprising for a seafood restaurant. We had salmon, barramundi, and crocodile, too. Tiramisu dessert decent. Expected more flavor and uniqueness. However, pretty average meals.
Ambience is the only reason for going, view of opera house and bridge. Service was disappointing. Again, expected a bit more attendance and friendliness. We felt we were bothering the server by being there. Even as we were ordering, he was looking away, around the rest of the area. Overpriced for food. You're paying for the view.

Not much to say. Fish and chips with or without batter at over the top prices.

I went to this place thursday night with my friends. The food and service was horrible. The food does not match with sauces and garnishes. I ordered angus fillet cooked rare medium but it was almost well done. When the food came, it tasted horrible. The food was bland and had no flavor. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. I wanted to see the kitchen I saw the chef wearing chef jacket with paintings very funny shit. I am chef too I recommend hire some qualified chef with good palate. I almost feel like this place is kind of asian restaurant.

I went here On march 9th for the degustation menu with my partner. We had our table next to the window on the upper round level. The view and atmosphere was divine!
The degustation was what we had expected, delicious! the night was made speical with good food and matching premium wine. Romantic setting and the dishes that came out was tasty and not something you would expect when dining in a normal restaurant. Cost was pricy, however, the experience and food was worth it!

My girlfriend and I went there for dinner on a thursday night. We ordered garlic bread for starter and a warm seafood salad to share for entree. I ordered a steak that came with lobster tail and red wine jus and my girlfriend ordered the BBQ prawns that came with jasmine rice. Ok so the garlic bread was ordinary, the seafood salad was not a salad. It was just some panfriend (two pieces each) of salmon, calamari, prawns and mussels. That was nowhere near salad, the jasmine rice was microwaved to the point that it was one big rubbery ball of rice (could have played a game of tennis with it).
My steak was perfect medium but the red wine jus was so thin and runny that as if it wasn't even there on my plate (tasteless). To make things worse, the lobster tail was rotten! After my first bite, I almost puked on the table. It smelled horrible and after I sent it, the waiter came back saying that the Chefs had smelled it and said that it was perfectly fine. I couldn't believe it. Overall it was Horrible!

Had dinner on Saturday night 10/3/12 at Peter Doyle At the Quay. Our reservation was for 7.15pm we arrived right on time and was shown to our table which was outside with a great view of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge.
We're Sydney siders and have eaten at this restaurant over the years so are fully aware of the quality of the food, which isn't bad, after all its fish and chips and salad when it comes down to it, the food was fine, the view absolutely awesome, now for the clanger, the waiter was terrible, with a very bad attitude, so bad infact it was almost comical.
Needless to say he didn't get a tip and it would take up way too much space here to report in depth how he banged the plates on the table spilled the water, barked at us just to name a few. All over though, it's worth it just to sit in a world class spot and eat fish and chips with people from all over the world.

We had booked for a work event, 7 of us for a nice meal... Didn't exactly deliver on that at all. The food is pretty good overall, nicely cooked and well presented but it is way and I mean way overpriced!
We got a whole bunch of stuff to share for entree: oysters, salt & pepper calamari, sushi, prawns etc. All pretty nice and the oysters particularly were very fresh, battered stuff was a big gluggy though.
Lots of different mains shared, my whiting was a very generous serve and was nicely cooked. Others all looked the same but near on $40 for fish and chips is really a bit over the top (well over the top).
The wine list is extensive and there are lots to choose from. Again, the pricing is top end and I am sure a bit of a tourist trap for the unsuspecting. Service was ok to begin with, including a nice lady who moved us outside upon request but got gruff later on with a downright cranky person (different) who thought it beneath her to be asked some simple requests (ice for wine bucket etc).
Tourists will like this place but head to Bondi or Coogee and get far better product at less than half the price!

Coming from interstate to try out the Famous Doyle’ Restaurant, I have to say I was really disappointed with the service, food and overall operations. From the moment I walked in the door and seated at an unset table, waiting for bottle of spring water for more than 20 minutes on a hot afternoon, I knew that I was in for a shaky ride.
After having consumed the delicious plate of oysters, the pleasure did not last long as the careless actions of the waiter spilling the remainders over me upon collecting the plates. This did not find tolerance with me as the place had more staff than patrons. The Seafood platter was less decorated than I was led to believe by the description on the menu with a fish and chip feel to the plate itself.
The restaurant was completely empty and did not understand the attention to detail or reason behind compromising such a valuable name.

We came here spontaneously for dinner on Australia Day at around 6pm and were taken to a table with a lovely view of the harbour. From the onset, the service from the waiters were polite and accommodating. We ordered the herb bread to start, and had the Top End Barramundi fish and chips and the Yellowfin tuna steak.
The food came out quite promptly, within 10-15 minutes, and was presented well. The tuna steak was perfectly cooked and tasty. However, the wasabi soy sauce was not enough for the steak, and the "seaweed salad" was a mere few pieces of seaweed served on top. More than one bulb of bok choy could also have been given. The barramundi was also deepfried perfectly and had a lovely crunch.
However for the price, I expected at least hand cut chips rather than frozen ones. The dish could also definitely have used some greens, however, non traditional, such as a simple salad on the side. It also did not come with any accompanying sauces, however, the waiter did come back asking if tartare sauce was required.
All in all, a lovely view, friendly and polite staff, fresh seafood, however, some small things in regards to the menu could be improved.

O dear - we were hoping for a special night out but not to be, fish and chips costing over $40 should be splendid but what appeared was an average bit of battered fish and rather stodgy chips, no sauce or salad. The carpet and windows were grubby and 'tap water' was served almost warm. We won't be back, will stick to the local chippy.
