Firstly, you must go there for dessert (see later). Agree that ambience a bit middling and Maryam the owner and waiter, a little too intrusive (though nice to know how food prepared, authenticity etc) - but at least she cares, unlike most waiters. Food is good and fresh but too expensive for budget conscious families of four like us (had a coupon, which made it affordable).

Portions small but having 3 courses (which we wouldn't normally do) filled us. Really only wanted to mention the desserts! We had the dessert platter for 2 ($25) and the home made ice cream (fig, walnut & more) and fairy floss ($15). The dessert platter ($25) was served warm: various coloured and flavoured Turkish delights, stretchy, gelatinous, sticky, fragrant and divinely sweet like we'd never had before; thin nutty biscuit slices, layered biscuit cake, locks of soft hair-like fairy floss ( kids said they felt they were eating the tops of truffula trees from Dr Seuss' The Lorax!); scattered pistachios, rose petals, dried fruits and nuts; whole warm dried figs that explode and roll in your taste buds.

Ice cream as pure translation of it's ingredients into creamy magic.
Overall it was the kind of Persian fairy tale dessert I've imagined since I was a child. The surprise of the warmth, textures and tastes was delightful! Truly transporting - just wish I'd been in an intimate cushion room with ceiling to floor tapestries, miniature paintings, and bejeweled mosaics to match the culinary experience.

We had one of those coupons so definely value for money. The food was just amazing. Place is not flash but food makes up for it. We had the chicken stew with pomegranes and walnuts, lamb kebabs, metze plate, baklava and ice cream with ferry floss.

Friendly service but the prices are a bit high for the quality. Not the tastiest or most authentic persian food in Sydney. The starters platter which we were talked into was abysmal, the mains were about average, but the home made ice cream at the end was the highlight of the meal.

March 3 2012. I don't usually write reviews unless I am very pleased or disappointed and in the case of this restaurant I was pleased A+++++, superb food and Maria was like our Grandmother, told her what we fancied and she did the rest, it's not cheap but it's money well spent, the homemade ice Cream is a must.

We had avoided this restaurant due to some of the reviews (there seems to be a dichotomy of reviews here), however decided to try it after it was recommended by a friend - we had Sunday lunch.

The food was actually very good - I had the lambs tongue which was delightful, my wife had a chicken kebab which was also tasty, especially with one of the yoghurts. For desert we had an ice cream with the fairy floss, with Persian coffee. Service was very friendly and helpful. It may be a bit on the expensive side, however we will be back.

Not recommended. The menu is boring : mostly lamb dishes. The service was good but the quality of the food quite poor.

I've been in Sydney for more than 4 years and I've dined in countless number of restaurants. This one is definitely the worst restaurant I've experienced so far!

The food is terrible and the restaurant doesn't feel clean. On top of that, their prices are really really high for what they are offering.

I come from a middle eastern background and I know what Persian food tastes like. Unfortunately, their food doesn't taste anything near Persian food.

I visited the restaurant using a deal voucher and even though it felt like a waste of money.

Wow I just read some of the reviews below and my partner and I were shocked. We are locals of pyrmont and we eat at The Persian Room on a regular basis.

The food is nothing short of brilliant. The flavours are very unique and it's certainly refreshing to try something different in Sydney other than Indian, Thai or Italian.

The service is great, all the dishes are always explained and the waiter always helps us choose. It's a great place to take guests as staff are all very hospitable.

As for prices, sure it's more expensive than a pad thai but then again persian food is packed with saffron, rosewater and pomegranate instead of noodles. The lamb is always very tender and they always have great specials for there regulars.

Everyone that I know always speaks very highly of Persian Room. I honestly recommend you to give it a try. The desserts are a must! Best in town.

I feel like Persian Room takes advantage of the fact that they are the only Persian restaurant in the city. Their prices are astronomical and the food is below average. I didn't try any of the stews, but $24 for Ghorme Sabzi? Give me a break. I had the Koobideh and the Barg kebabs (at $24 each!) which are very traditional persian dishes.

I'm persian and have had a lot of persian food in my life so I know what good persian kebab is. You won't find that here. The food was very average at best. Definitely not worth the prices. I'm not exaggerating when I say the prices here are Double of what they really should be. We had two kebab dishes, one side, and one order of ice cream and the total was about $70!

I would go back here if their prices were down to earth to get my persian food fix, but given their ridiculous prices and the very mediocre food, I'll stick to all the good and cheap Thai food Sydney has to offer.

Although lacking ambiance the service at The Persian Room was fantastic. The hostess ordered for us and her selection was great. The food was good and the portions were generous. The signature dish, chicken with pomegranate was nice but I wouldn't order it again. For those who like meat and fruit together this is the dish for you. I wouldn't go back for the food but I'm glad I have tried Persian cuisine.
