Have been many times, pork belly baklava and lamb skaras were superb' as was the eggpant entree. Also be sure to try ekmek for dessert, honey soaked sourdough brioche with clotted buffalo cream.
I love Greek food, and I did not enjoy the food at this restaurant at all. I didn't even finish a quarter of my meal. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Very disappointing, as Greek is my favourite food!
Perema must be the best Greek Restaurant in Sydney. I have been going here for a few years and have never been disappointed. The food is exceptional, the service is always prompt and friendly. I scored the ambience at 9 as the music could be a little louder to give it more of a "greek" atmosphere.
On my most recent visit (boys night out) one of the party was gluten intolerant. We ordered the banquet which is quite honestly too much food to consume in 1 sitting and for $50 per head is great value. We told our waiter that we had a Gluten free person and it was no trouble at all, dishes came out with special effort made where possible to provide a Gluten free alternative, even the bread. My friend commented it was the best gluten free bread he has ever eaten. I will be going back for years to come.
I ate there with my partner and ordered the stuffed calamari and the deboned lamb shank stuffed with a selection of cheeses. The table we sat at was wobbly and the table top was loose made it difficult to eat off.
The service provided by Nick the waiter was very good. The calamari was luke warm and slightly chewy but the filling it was stuffed with, was a rice and had sultana or currant mixed thru it with mint and was not very nice it had a very sickening sweet taste that overpowered the pallet I found I had to remove the stuffing to eat the meal.
The deboned Lamb shank had a very strong taste mixed with a sickening cheesy flavour that clashed badly with the Lamb it was not a good mix of flavours at all. The best thing about this dish was the potatoes on the side, I should have ordered a plate of the potatoes instead. We had a selelction of dips and bread as the starter they were very nice and presented well and came with lots of bread for dipping.
Great food at a reasonable price with friendly and unfussy service. I've been here twice and both times the food was lovely. The lamb skaras is great, melt in your mouth and rich in flavour, as is the whole grilled octopus. The lemony potatoes that come with the lamb almost deserve to be a dish in itself.
Felt like an early dinner one Friday and headed off to Perama, having neglected it for a while. It was magic! And we weren't really expecting it. Great wines by the glass, crusty bread and tarama with warm dolmades, just what we needed after the working week. Followed by lamb skaras and a divine grilled octopus, when we saw this whopper we feared the worst but it was cooked to perfection. Fit for Poseidon. The salad was good and our only gripe, the plastic tomatoes. All for $80! Fantastic.
Maybe it was hyped too much but my partner had been raving about this place. I was a bit disappointed considering its rep, I am going back to the Corinthian, bad service, good food. Perhaps, I just got a bad night.
After reading a handful of gushing reviews from food bloggers, I was extremely excited to try Perama's banquet menu. Arrive at exactly 8:15 pm for our group of 14 reservation to discover that our table was not ready yet and staff was still setting up cutlery as we were told to head upstairs to sit.
Nevertheless, the first few courses came out in a timely manner. Ordering wines was troublesome as the young waiters had no clue which wine to suggest and when we asked them to bring someone who was familiar with the wines to help us, the first time no one came and the second time another unknowledgeable waiter was presented to us.
Dips were lovely as was the Greek salad, lovely fetta. Mixed pickles were okay, nothing exciting. Haloumi was a beautiful dish, especially paired with the figs, I highly recommend this dish. Spinach pie was okay, however, the pastry was not how I imagine spinach pie pastry (extra $4 on top of banquet) texture to be like and the filo pastries were better though. Hand cut chips were a complimentary part of our banquet but not crunchy as I imagine hand cut chips should be. Vine dolmathes were good.
By now, being a group dominated by males, we were getting quite anxious about all the vegetarian dishes. Lamb skaras probably should've come out halfway through all the courses. We actually got quite fustrated as to the lack of meat and when the lamb (which we also waited quite a while for), which was beautiful, came out really just wanted to head home after sitting around for 2 hours, especially waiting so long for the last few courses.
The major let down food wise was the fried school prawns and calamari. I don't think we even finished half the plate. Highlight of the meal was definitely the dessert. Absolutely gorgeous baklava ice cream paired with bougasta, delicious!
All in all, an extremely big let down from an ex- 1 hat restaurant. Sorry Perama, I will not be back.
