Without doubt the best "day time" cafe around. The food is sensational, honestly our mains were restaurant class and blew us away for the price. Their sandwiches are the best in town. Highly recommend it. Only slight downfall was that, perhaps, service from time to time, could be a little faster but aside from that, excellent.
When you spend money in a cafe, the last thing you want to encounter is staff talking to each other as they serve you, wait to order your food while they finish their conversation!! The owner has zero customer service. People who have money to invest should only buy into hospitality businesses if they have an interest to keep the customer happy. I had the wrong meal sent to my table twice with not one apology and was made feel that it was my fault???
I have eaten here on numerous occasions with work colleagues. The specials board is always excellent! Great sandwiches and salads as well. They also do lovley catering.
I went to Pen recently with 8 colleagues. It was an important meeting and the service and food at Pen didn't let us down. The specials board was diverse and we chose to follow waitstaff's recommendations. I had the fettucine with vongole, squid, white wine and fresh herbs which was so flavoursome.
I know that my colleagues were happy with their choices also. (Risotto with corn fed chicken, tomato and Spanish chorizo and another colleague ordered lamb fillet with roast eggplant, zucchini and chermoula dressing.) The service was friendly, the food was fast and overall it was a great place to take colleagues and clients.
Went here for a work lunch. Saw the menu before we went, looked really good but looked like their 'niche' was just salads and sandwiches. Looks really nice, sat down at the big wooden table in the middle. Unlucky if you wanted to be involved in the conversation opposite you as the table was so huge you couldn't hear a thing. Couldn't tell you much about the service as they just took our order, someone else ordered the wine.
The variety of salads and its ingredients are very good. Prices are so-so but around par and perhaps, a little cheaper than places on the same level in Pyrmont. They had salmon on the specials board, 2 dishes in fact. One looked good and the cheaper one did not look as good. The desserts looked really nice but, unfortunately, did not sample them. The bathroom is a bit of a maze to find.
Overall, good fresh food at a reasonable price. Would go here for a quick casual lunch but nothing else.
Took a business associate to Pen the other day for a lunch, the food was excellent and extremely fresh we had one of the best pastas that I think I have had in Sydney. A cool space and great for a quick lunch.
I happen to be in the area and stopped at Pen for lunch with my partner, we didn't know it was even there. We had the burger and a pasta and we both enjoyed our meals. The waitress was friendly but not intrusive. We waited a bit, but the cafe always full, so you would expect a wait if you are a reasonable person. I would recommend the cafe for a casual lunch, looking at the prior reviews I wonder what people really expect when they are paying $15 to $20 for a lunch in a cafe, this is not a 5 star restaurant and you are not paying for it neither, be realistic!
What a great place that offers everything we need in Pyrmont, good value, high quality take away and good catering. Have not eaten in but looks good as well.
Every time we go to this expensive eatery, the food [chef] has changed as well, the staff are quite rude and not that knowledgeable with regards to the menu.
