We just had the yummiest meal here and for such a reasonable price, in fact for organic cooked food, it actually is really cheap! My husband's chicken livers and my duck crepe for entree were both a great start, so tasty and a decent but not too large portion. My main was perfectly cooked barramundi with delicious braised lentils and a perfectly balanced olive tapenade, my husband had organic lamb that just fell off the bone on a scrumptious carrot mash.
To finish a sugar free apple, date and orange crumble with vanilla bean ice cream which we shared was scrumptious. This restaurant truly is a find with it's delicious food, extensive menu, fantastic environmental considerations and very reasonable prices. We highly recommend it.

My girlfriend and I went to Peasant's Feast last Thursday night after a long time of wanting to try it. The waiter was a middle aged guy who was pleasant enough but had no clue about the food he was serving. Being a vegan I asked him what was vegan on the menu, he did not know. He then said "what does vegan mean, no dairy?" I then asked if the vegetarian platter was vegan and he went through the things on the list and said "that's got no vegan in it." I said "no, vegan is not an ingredient."
None of this would have bothered me if the menu didn't explicitly boast suitability for vegans.
We ordered the dips and bread for entree. The bread was at least a day old, the dips were each about the size of a generous teaspoon and were pretty much bland and watery, except for the beetroot dip which tasted entirely of garlic. There was an over use of lemon and an under use of flavour in the vegetarian platter. Their idea of "wholesome and healthy food" is just to roast vegetables whole and put them next to inedible red cabbage, undercooked rice and a really really weird, also inedible, brown sauce. The potato rosti was a soggy square the size of a small post-it note.
My girlfriend's gnocchi was actually Ok aside from being poorly presented and stodgy. I know peasants don't eat well but I didn't really take the name literally when we decided to eat there. We will not be going there again as there are plenty more vegetarian and vegan-friendly restaurants on King Street with delicious and reasonably priced food.

Best dining experience I've had in a long time. It's hard to find fresh, organic produce prepared as well as this (and for such good value). All three courses of my meal left me feeling nourished and satisfied. Yum!

How wonderful it is to dine at the Peasant's Feast restaurant. The food is prepared superbly, if you like the taste and texture of gastronomically balanced vegetables, meats/cheeses and sauces you will love Peasant's Feast, if you like overprepared salt and fat laden 'food' go to a fast food joint.
It gets better too, you see the gustatory curator Dr Bob not only creates elegant food, he also utilises his MBBS and PHD to ensure that meals are nutritionally balanced and suitable for a range of special diets.
The food is primarily organic and animal products are not sourced from factory farms, hence my perfect rating for value. A perennial pleasure, Peasant's Feast can be enjoyed by all, except those who would prefer to take the family to Stanmore MacDonald's.

The food at Peasant’s Feast is perfection. (That is, if you get it. Light, organic, salt-free meals aren’t for everyone it would seem (judging by past reviews).)
The thing with Peasant’s Feast food is the -vegetables- and their natural flavours are the key ingredients, not a mask of salt, sauce or whatnot.
I’ve ordered the Feast for Two several times, and it’s always been both scrumptiously delicious and a struggle to finish.
Wait staff have always been exceedingly friendly and keen to talk about the restaurant’s values, and meal prices are extremely generous in my opinion, given the quality of the food.
If you’re after rich/ salty foods served in modernistic configurations in a modish setting, then this restaurant is not for you. But if you wish to taste food as it truly tastes at its best and purest, then do venture to dine here.

Staff are polite. Presentation is very average but the serving was very generous and quick to our table. The food is amazing, clean & pure. This restaurant is family friendly, but do remember that this is the city & misbehaving children are not tolerated by other patrons. It is a little expensive though.

Waited ever so long for a most disappointing and unsatisfying meal. The roast veg soup entree was tasty but a some good bread would've been classier than a thin slice of toast. The $32 vegetarian feast for two promised a platter and was just a big dinner plate with some inspid vegetables, a small bowl of bland brown rice and lentils, a tiny pot of gravy, two frittata slices the size of biscuits and 3 tiny potato rostis smaller than fish fingers. No greens. No bread. It was so stingy. We left, starving.

My wife and I have been to this restaurant a few times and we were still very pleased with the food. I had the cassoulet, which I highly recommend if you eat meat. There was a poor review on this dish earlier so may be they are inconsistent?
My wife tried the moroccan chicken dish, which she also enjoyed. Presentation is very average but the serving was very generous and quick to come to our table.
The service was excellent with a very dedicated waitress. Ambience is almost non-existent but it suited us just fine to be in a quiet place. Good value for Sydney.

I've been here a few times over the years, and still can't really decide what I think about this restaurant. Is it because I really want it to succeed? Is it because it should succeed? Is it a great idea, poorly executed? Is it so far beyond it's time that the average punter stuck in the current salt/fat/sugar overload era doesn't get it? Perhaps, a combination?
I suppose a less-than-busy restaurant will not have the cash reserves for a refit. Or is an expensive refit on borrowed money something we need to be able to eschew? That's the first point for me, anyway. A good solid working bee needs to occur in here, scraping the years off the place and generally cleaning it up. Not that it's dirty, just old and dim, those who work there see the same things everyday and, therefore, don't necessarily notice the state of the place.
Fresh eyes need a look in. A modern and objective look in. Good senior staff should not need this help, but a business is a business, regardless of the philosophy behind it.
The food, on the other hand, is amazing! The concept of cooking so purely, letting the flavours out naturally and slowly, and taking the time to enjoy each and every ingredient is really fantastic, although a very hard sell. In the busy Newtown strip, this is probably the least patronised place. But that isn't because it's no good, it's because The Peasant's Feast simply doesn't deliver an addictive and harmful product.
On the other hand, some evolution in the menu, some specials that steer away from the supposed French provincial roots of the food, some Small nod to now wouldn't go astray. I've always enjoyed what I've eaten here, as have all of the people I've eaten here with. It's also a great challenge to realise just how badly we generally eat, and just how good real food can taste, and what real food actually tastes like! I suspect there are a lot of people who eat here often and doing so would probably improve your health to a significant degree.
Scrub, re-invigorate, contemporaries the concept, it's a great one, an important one, and a yummy one too! (I know "contemporaries" isn't a word but you get the point).

I just do not understand some of the negative reviews on this website for this restaurant. I've been having dinners here for over 5 years and I've found that the food is consistently great. I've brought many different friends with me and they have all loved the food, whether it be meat, chicken or vegetarian. The flavours are so vivid and tantalising, and they excel in this respect with the vegetarian which I think must be difficult to achieve.
Where else in Sydney can you find totally organic meals like this, and a big selection to boot. It's true that there is no salt or sugar in the dishes, so what you are left with is the actual taste of the basic ingredients and so the flavours are very different to all other meals. But I really appreciate tasting the actual ingredients and not the salt and sugar additives.
I also think that they use their organic herbs and spices very creatively to produce authentic flavours (rather than the bottled and canned flavours used by most other eateries). I'll be eating at this place for many years to come.
