Opened in early 2006 on level 1 of The Menzies Sydney, Parkside presents the best in modern Australian cuisine from our Executive Chef Andrew Duggan.
The showmanship of the menu is equally matched with Parkside's leather chesterfields, rich dark woods, high ceilings, antique furniture, dramatic chandeliers and soaring windows overlooking Wynyard Park offering patrons of modern Australian cuisine something to truly remember.
Parkside restaurant is open every evening for dinner from 6pm – 10pm.

I had dinner with 2 others at the Parkside after a recommendation from a friend. The food was delicious, I had the lamb rump, which was cooked to perfection. The service was welcoming and attentive and the restaurant itself is warm and elegant, and we particularly enjoyed the talented piano player in the bar adjoining the restaurant. We will certainly be coming back for more.

I booked a table for two here a week in advance. We arrive at 7.30pm, and after much ceremonious crossing out of our name in the book, we are then ushered to the most exposed, noisy and least desirous spot in the restaurant.
Here lies our first irritation of the night. As we sit perusing the menu, we realise that the bar directly next to us has a lady on the piano conducting karioke. I'm sorry, but in a fine dining restaurant, one should not have to listen to off-tune amateurs beating up ballad after ballad. No problem with this after midnight, when the dining service has finished, but at this time of night it was wildly inappropriate.
We order our wine for the evening, and I ordered a Crown Lager. Five minutes later, our waitress informs that they 'are out of stock of Crown Lager!' In disbelief, I order another brand which was dumped on the table without a glass - which I then had to request. For entrees, we had the smoked trout and the pork belly, both dishes were beautifully presented and tasted divine. We then sat for 10 minutes with our dirty plates and the drained beer bottle and glass in front of us. Irritated, we called the waitress over to clean our table, so she obligingly removed the plates and left the beer bottle & glass.
Ten minutes later she came over to see whether we wanted more drinks, it was then I asked if she could take the empties. Our mains of lamb rump and swordfish were both overcooked, as was the charred rosti style patty the rump was served with. After the initial pour of our wine, there was no attempt to keep an eye on our glasses, so we poured for ourselves the entire meal. I must sound like a nark, but I make no apologies.
For an establishment that trumpets the fact it is a fine-dining venue, in my opinion it fell way short of the mark. Our young waitress, whilst beautifully presented, was clearly inexperienced and out of her depth. Our main meals were poorly cooked. And seriously, what are the Management thinking by conducting piano-led kareoke in a bar adjoined to the top-flight restaurant and at peak dining service time? We left $170 lighter, no dessert mind you, never to venture here again.

My boss decided to treat me to a dinner with my wife, after a long project. Our budget was $250. I searched the Internet for a good restaurant in this price range and came across Parkside on this site. After seeing the score and reading the reviews I decided to go for it. Boy, that was a mistake. I guess I'll never trust only 2 reviewers again.
Let's start with the food: The olive and garlic bread was good. The oysters as well (but way overpriced - $17 for 3). The Haloumi salad was horrible (like eating a sole of a shoe) and the smoked trout was good. For mains, my wife had the veal, which was Ok, but not great. I wanted the tenderloin, but they were out. The sirloin I had instead was also Ok. For sides, The salad and steamed veg were good, but the potatoes were terrible.
For drinks, my wife asked for Sunshine Breeze, and I took a cranberry Margarita. The Margarita was great, but the waitress had to come back to tell us they're out of the ingredients for the Breeze. She took a Singapore Sling instead, which was only Ok. When I asked for a second Margarita, the waitress came back to tell me they're out of Tequila. Seriously?! I took a Caprioska, which was disgusting.
When I told the waiter, he said that he can't do anything about it. When I explained that was unacceptable, he disappeared for 15 minutes and then replaced it. This time it was Ok. Ambience: The place itself looks nice, and the piano player/singer in the bar is a nice addition, but the place has a view to the Wynyard railway station, and the people who came to eat there were complete slobs (track suits and sneakers), sorry if it sounds condescending, but it took a lot out of the "class" of the place.
Service: was horrible. The restaurant has no host, and it is understaffed. We had to wait 5 minutes for someone to even acknowledge us, and then 5 more to be seated. Service was very slow, the waitresses were not paying attention to the tables and did not do elementary things like coming to take our order after giving us menus. They could also care less that we left the potatoes dish untouched.
Overall, may be a reasonable place if you're staying at the hotel, but definitely not somewhere to make a reservation for. Disappointed.

Took my partner there for a late Valentine's day celebration because she was away overseas. Didn't really have high hopes but it turned out to be a very pleasant surprise!
Our booking was at 6, and being a Sunday evening, there was only an elderly couple before us. The waitress who seated us was very friendly and gave us a table by the window. We ordered a starter and an entree to share to begin with, I normally don't order alcohol when I go out for dinner but I made an exception this time and ordered a glass of white.
For the mains, I had the rainbow trout and my partner had the duck breast with two side dishes. The duck was a little chewy but I'm really nitpicking here, everything was really fantastic.
Can't fault the service, the girl who served us was extremely attentive without being intrusive. I don't normally tip at the end, again I made an exception this time, and tipped 15%. This should really say something about the service.

My partner took me here for Valentine's Day, and to be honest I was rather sceptical as we walked in (situated right across from the station, we were swamped with people catching their buses). However I can honestly say that this was the BEST MEAL I HAVE EVER HAD. The food was PERFECT!! They are rather small (as you can appreciate), but the flavour sensations were to die for!! If I had the money and the time I would eat there everyday for the rest of my life.
A bit pricey, our bill came to $150 which was for 3 courses each and a complimentary bottle of wine. The staff were all very lovely and friendly, our glasses were never empty. The only issue would have been the level of noise coming from the piano bar situated right next to the restaurant. Add this to your bucket list!!
