I work in the food trade and dined at this extremely ordinary establishment just the other day, on a whim, with my wife and child, and I must say that it was one of the most unpleasant outings I have endured as far as inner West restaurants go and certainly the worst of Balmain.
The food was barely up to scratch (the child's portion chips was bordering on laughable as regards to quality), the service was slower than a three toed sloth over hurdles, and the wait staff (yes well she's a rude lass what can I say). These people don't seem to realise that when a customer is dissatisfied with the slowness of service and sub standard food presented, it is common professional courtesy to Listen, acknowledge the mistake, offer an apology and Learn.
I really don't like this place, I have been once before and thought I would give it a try again to see if the menu had changed. The service was very poor, it took 15 minutes for our coffees to come out and when they did they were cold. The food was average and lacks seasoning.
Our Place on Darling is a true dining gem in Sydney. My partner and I hosted our birthday dinner at Our Place last night with 25 of our closest friends and we were totally impressed by our experience. We had the Mediterranean inspired roof top terrace to ourselves, with fair lights and tea candles tastefully placed around - the first thing our guests said to us, was 'where did you find this place!'
The food was absolutely delicious - beef medallions a huge recommendation to all!
The service was fantastic for 25 people, and we couldn't be more complimentary of management as we left the place.
For roughly $60 a head, we couldn't have been happier with the atmosphere, food, service and value for money! I never write reviews but I wanted to give Our Place on Darling the praise it so rightfully deserves. Huge Thanks.
I went to Our Place in a group booking for a senior birthday. It was a great pick. We had the roof area to ourselves. The food was very good, the service attentive and they let us bring in our own birthday cake. A great night.
Escaped with my wife for a night off from the bub for a nice meal and on our second visit to Our Place, found the food was just as good as the first visit last year.
The Portugese Skewers were cooked to perfection (requested medium rare - and it was exactly to my liking). My wife ordered the Pork Belly which was fabulous as well as we decided to share so we could taste it all. As it is BYO & Licensed I suggest taking your own wine as the wine list is minimal but decent, if you like your wine young it's OK, but if you want something special go BYO.
A great atmosphere of being in a cosy place and even for a monday night it was reasonably busy - all the tables downstairs were full. The night was topped off by the best creme brulee I've ever tasted (apparently the chef stole the recipe from a visit to France). Recommended and will definitely be visiting again.
This has to be the best brekkie place certainly in the inner west. Take a while to arrive, but well worth the wait. A group of four last Sunday morning choose the big breakfast, corn fritters and porridge and not a complaint amongst us. The homemade hash browns are another reason to come back. Keep it up!!
Genuinely friendly and accommodating staff. Interesting menu and well presented, delicious food (try the pork belly). It lacks a little ambience (and still not sure about those empty picture frames on the wall) but this is reflected in the price. Throw BYO into the mix and you have all the ingredients for a cheap, fun night out. If you're looking for a function venue, check out the upstairs courtyard. Oh and they serve excellent coffee.
What type of restaurant in Balmain does not do breakfast all day on Sundays? They were turning brunch patrons away despite having empty tables, scare of making money? The serving size of sides such as spinach/tomatoes is so small. I would be embarrassed to charge customers for it. We ended up leaving because we grew tired of the bad jokes from our waiter.
This is one of my favourite restaurants in Sydney. The staff are friendly and make you feel as if you're dining at friend's house. It's the sort of menu which makes it very hard to choose because everything looks so good, and in my experience tastes good. We've been here three times in the last month and will keep coming back.
I went into this restaurant with high expectations after reading all the rave reviews in Eatability. However, I must say I left disappointed. The food was nothing to shout about, and the service blase, bordering on rude. Our seating was really uncomfortable as well. Don't think I will go back again.
