Ormeggio is the domain of Italian chef Alessandro Pavoni, originally from Brescia, who is already receiving acclaim and most recently has been recognised with a chef’s hat in the Good Food Awards, which also commended Ormeggio’s views as the best of any restaurant in Sydney.
Ormeggio at The Spit specialises in contemporary Northern Italian cuisine with a regional focus on Alessandro's home region, Lombardia. There is an adjoining kiosk serving coffee, panini and home made gelato.
For a full experience, indulge in Menu Creativo, a six-course taste bud extravaganza with specially selected matching wines. Artful dishes on the menu include Organic grass fed wagyu beef battuta, oyster mayonnaise and brunt enoki,Ling baccalai, Acquarello risotto, Flathead slow poached in dill oil broad beans and asparagus, smoked biodynamic veal rump and,to finish a refreshing desserts: Blueberry crumbled blood orange sorbet, fresh blueberries and orange blossom jelly.

We had an enjoyable night at Ormeggios last night, we had the 6 course degustation menu.
The service was spot on with just the right amount of time between courses. The food was well presented and although the portion sizes were small the flavors were intense, the pork skin wasn't crunchy on my serving but I loved the baccala dish, my favorite was the ricotta and burnt butter pasta and the palate cleanser which ironically wasn't part of the 6 courses.
The dessert was refreshing and I personally loved the citrus theme. I didn't leave completely stuffed but felt full. Pricey but not excessively so for what you get these days especially at a hatted restaurant.

The four course degustation was awful, with the exception of the dessert which was lovely. The first course raw salmon dish was blandish but fresh tasting. The pasta dish was simply undercooked. It wasn't al dente like they claimed, but half-raw and so salty it was inedible. Our entire table couldn't eat it and the table next to us also complained. The piece of veal was nice at first but I was bored half way through eating it.
Dessert was lovely but didn't save the meal. Will never go again and would highly recommend not to go. Even if the food was half the price it was still not worth it.
Response from Management:
Hi Pauley
That's a shame that you didn't enjoy your experience with us. Did you manage to speak with the manager on duty on the day?
The chefs enjoy interacting with customers and it seems surprising that they did not come to the table to respond to you.
We appreciate feedback, though it is easier to respond to if given at the time. Your words are very strong in your feedback written here and it seems a shame, seeing we have so many happy and satisfied customers overall.
We'd love to welcome you again to Ormeggio. "Awful" is not something we are often told we are and we'd love to change your mind.
Kind regards
The Ormeggio Team

We had lunch there, the highlight was the Linguine, it was to die for. And the downlight was the Pork Shoulder. My wife had the Risotto which was great as well.
Service was excellent, view was outstanding. A bit warm inside with the sun staring down at you if you're at the right spot which can be overwhelming when it's already warm inside.
Value was great, they had $60 for three course with a glass of wine. I would definitely recommend this place. More pasta choices for Primi please.
Response from Management:
Thank you Ronaldo07. I'll pass on your request to the Chefs!
We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Excellent good quality and well presented food. I took my family here and we had a delightful lunch. There weren't too many people which was comfortable, the waiters were informative and polite and the food was delicious. Right on the water, we had a pelican fly by and watch us eat! Highly recommended.
Response from Management:
Thanks Deb, our resident Pelican loves the attention.
We look forward to welcoming you back to Ormeggio.
Kind regards

I love this restaurant. The setting is superb, the room is intimate and well-appointed, the food is terrific, the wine list is excellent and well-priced and the service is competent and polished. I'm sure they would be happy if I stopped right here. There are a few minor quibbles, though, but they're not enough to prevent a return.
Up until the bill arrived, the only faults were pretty tiny: pasta that was a little too al dente, one too many ingredients, IMHO, in the salmon entree (the dried orange pieces are tasty by themselves, but the sweetness is not a good marriage with this dish) and the fact that we must eat extra bread rolls to leave with a full stomach, but forewarned is forearmed.
When the bill arrived we were thinking we'd had a pretty spectacular lunch, but then they slugged an extra three percent charge for Amex and it reminded us that we were annoyed by this at the end of the previous visit, as well. I can understand that small businesses need to keep costs in check, but this charge is annoying because Visa and Mastercharge don't incur a surcharge at all and the difference between what the restaurant is charged for V/MC vs Amex is less than three percent.
If it were factored into the prices on the menu there would be no real discernible rise in the prices and no unpleasant aftertaste when the bill arrived. I would think that people that use Amex are the sort of customers that Ormeggio would want as patrons and punishing them just seems petty (and Ormeggio is not the only restaurant guilty of this offence).
Rant over, it's still an excellent restaurant and deserves all the accolades that it gets, but I feel a bit sad that such a small charge has overshadowed such a wonderful meal.
Response from Management:
Hi foodcoma
Thank you for your review and feedback.
We are in the process of negotiating with Amex, so we hope to be able to decrease this in the future. Feel free to speak with them too and pass it on - it all helps if we are speaking with one voice!
As noted, we do not charge for Visa/MC as there is such an enormous difference in the commission they ask that we like to reward that.
We're glad you love the rest! Look forward to welcoming you back soon.
Kind regards

What can I say. Absolutely fantastic! Worth a try even just once. Meal sizes were very small but after a 3 course, you left satisfied. A bit pricey, but worth it as the food was delicious and Faultless.

Went here for a lunch with the family last week. Had the pork main and the 'eggs nest' dessert with the $49 deal. Was absolutely delicious. The view is perfect and the service attentive enough. Will be back for sure.

Firstly the dessert was some of the best I've ever had. Delicious. Went for lunch and although the service/view/setting was amazing I found everything else a little disappointing. The only thing for entree that I found appealing was oysters and the main meal sizes were very small. There was nothing about the place I hadn't seen before. Would only go back for dessert.

Came here with my playmate on Valentines Day for a 4 course degustation meal. We had requested a table with a view and arrived at the 6pm seating to enjoy the setting of the sun.
The food was equally beautiful, with ling and cream mash, ricotta ravioli, smoked veal (which was tender as anything) with vegetable ash (amazing texture and flavour) and chocolate gelato and crumble. The service was prompt and polite, with the ambience romantic to suit the day. We enjoyed the views alongside the delicate and sophisticated food.

Had a lovely 4 course degustation meal last night. Other reviewers mentioned that the portion sizes are small. We found the 4 course degustation meal portions to be elegantly sufficient. The sizes were enough to savour all the wonderful flavours.
The King Salmon crudo was great, as well as the buccatini and mussels (mussels were so succulent). Enjoyed the egg on the nest dessert too. If you're really hungry you can always ask for an additional bread roll or even order a side salad to go with the main, but you shouldn't need it. We had a delightful evening and really enjoyed our meal.
