We ate here on a busy Friday night, and had an enjoyable but not outstanding meal. It didn't particularly differentiate itself from a number of other reasonable meals at Marrickville's numerous Vietnamese joints.
We started with the vietnamese omelette, which once you added the herbs and sauce was pretty good, if a touch on the oily side. Like most omelettes, it could have done with some more substantial contents other than the 70% made up of bean sprouts.
We then had the sliced beef pho, and a honey chilli stir fry with pork and eggplant. The pho was reasonable and tasted fresh without having much depth of flavour, while the stir fry was good, the eggplant had a lovely soft texture and the flavours were solid with the right amount of chilli kick.
Depending on your choice of dish you could end up spending $30 per head pretty easily, our modest choices came out at just over $20 per head, so the value was fair enough without being spectacular.
Service was prompt and polite, only downside was getting all 3 of our dishes at the same time. We'll be back at some stage, as it's a solid option.

Favourite local Vietnamese/Thai/Se asian place. Don't let the mixed description fool you. The items they have on their menu are all really nice. Favourite item definitely has to be the salt and pepper squid with a bowl of hot pho. Quick takeaway as well. Always under 10 minutes.

Only come here to eat the wet rice noodles with beef (ask for NO MSG). Went twice. Will come again.

Love this place. Very ordinary service but the food is great for authentic Vietnamese! Food is always made quick and always delicious. Bookings on a Friday/Saturday are a must. Once you come here, you will understand why the place is always so packed.

I was craving fresh rice paper rolls so we came here for lunch. Considering it was Saturday it wasn't that busy and service was fast and with tea coming out as soon as you are seated. We ordered prawn rice paper rolls as well as grilled chicken. Both came with 4 pcs at $7.50 which I thought was great value and they were both delicious.
We also had the beef pho which came out in huge bowls. This also was flavorsome and definitely hit my Vietnamese food craving. I definitely would want to come back here for dinner to try their pancakes and other dishes on their menu.

Really fantastic restaurant, one of our favourites. We eat here with our two young boys every couple of weeks and it is always a pleasure. The food is absolutley delicious, so fresh and great flavour! Service is efficient but very friendly and the value is outstanding. I think this is easily one of the best Vietnamese restaurants in Sydney. Our favourites are the Beef Pho, the Vietnamese Pancake (divine!) and the pork and prawn rice paper rolls.

We eat here nearly every week - it has great value food, good service and is very cheap. My tip is to stick to the Vietnamese menu - rice hotpot, meat hotpot, rice paper rolls, pho - all amazing. It is also a good place for kids, and they are usually busy but have a quick turnover and an upstairs room. One of the best in the inner west if you ask me.

We have been coming here for over 10 years. The service is fast, the food is cheap and the menu is extensive. A group of 10 ladies ate here, we shared 3 entrees and 6 mains and the bill came to $153. We had our own room upstairs which was nicely furnished and quiet.
I have heard the food could be more authentic but that can be said of a lot of restaurants who are also trying to cater to a wider audience of diners. It's BYO and easy to park. Cash only and you can't pre-book but we had no trouble getting our own room on a Friday night at 8 pm.

I have been a regular customer of this restaurant for 3 yeras now. It is one of the best Vietnamese res in Sydney!
The food is so tasty and the prices are quite cheap compared witn others. For instant, I can get fied rice with crispy skin chicken, the whole maryland for 9.50 and it is so nice.
The food in general is fatty because they are deep fried and stir fried most of the time. However, you can choose something healthier such as the salad. Beef salad is the best, the dressing is so balanced and tasty. The rare beef is so fresh and juicy. Beside that, the rice paper roll with your choice of prawns, pork or chicken is excellent! The peanuts sauce is a real killer!
You will not get the services in the 5 stars reastaurant here. They are friendly Vietnamese people who always willingly to serve customers at their best. The female owner is so nice and pretty as well. So I recommend you guys should give it a try! come and enjoy!

It’s common knowledge that the busier Asian restaurants are always the better ones. So it’s no surprise that Old Tranh Huong seems to be one of the more crowded restaurants in Marrickville. If you don’t mind a short wait for tables and the noisy atmosphere, you’ll always get a delicious feast and some efficient but friendly service.
My favourite dishes would be the Vietnamese Pancake (Banh Xeo, only available on fri/sat/sun only though) and the Salt and Pepper Squid. Their dishes always arrive steaming hot and go wonderfully with a bowl of rice. If I’m only around for a quick lunch, their Pho noodle soup doesn’t disappoint either.
