It's our first time out in Leichhardt. Sunday evening and a lot of places were closed. The restaurant was empty when we arrived but we chanced it. Delighted to say fortune favoured the brave. The steak was not as good as I'm Angus but was pretty good and the quality of vegetables was excellent. Huge servings and great value for money. I expect on a sunny day the ambience would be excellent.
Came here for lunch with a friend after a long absence from the Leichhardt scene. Lost interest in the area a couple of yrs ago due to overpriced and below par dining experiences and limited parking. The Norton Grill has restored my faith in the area. Very friendly service with good food and wine recommendations. Food was very great and tables on the terrace allow you to watch the world go by. I'm worried my faith in Leichhardt will be shattered if I go elsewhere on Norton St. but with this place you won't need an alternative. Will be back.
The service was good however when explaining the entree he was going to cook us up, we asked the price and he didn't specify it, he just said "I'll put it together into something". Once we saw the bill for the entree it was far too expensive, it cost more than our two mains put together. The pasta was quite delicious although I have just said the service was good. We ordered a full rack of pork ribs and a full rack of beef ribs. When he brought them out there were two full racks of pork ribs, we didn't bother trying to exchange it, he said he'll give us a sample of the beef but we didn't take. The ribs were far too sweet, it was sweeter than the BBQ sauce you normally have with your chips and nuggets!
My friend ordered an orange fanta, he said it was a bit flat. I tasted it then looked at the bottle it was overdue. Once I told the staff he said no that's when it's manufactured and obviously he was lying because the drink was flat. Once he went to get another one, the other was the same, out of date drinks very bad. Overall food was substantial, service was good except for a few occasions, value for money? I don't think so. The lights on the outdoor porch kept switching on and off, I could'nt even see where I was cutting my ribs. Would I come back? Definitely not!
I went for an afternoon steak with my partner because of the reviews on eatability. The staff were courteous and informative. We got what we wanted and excellent tender juicy steak each and were treated to some excellent flamenco guitar. Wholly a perfect dining experience. Highly recommended. We will be going again.
Went here with a group of girls the waiter was very funny and friendly. He said that we wouldn't be able to eat all our meals as our eyes her bigger than our stomachs and we ignored him - he was right. The steaks were really good as was the mushroom salad that I had as an entree. I'm taking my boyfriend there on Friday, lets see what he thinks!
Just to update I took my boyfriend there we got the musroom salad then both got steaks, I ordered rare and that is what I got! Thankfully! Great suggestions by the waiter, i honestly love the casualness of this place while also serving great tasting food at a reasonable price!
Went there with a group of mates. We all ordered the "All to can eat ribs" being a bunch of blokes. The ribs were ok however, the sauce was too sweet. Tasted like they just splashed on half a litre of BBQ sauce and severed it. Value was very good. Service was normal.
The restaurant was amazingly empty for a Wednesday lunchtime and the group of 10 of us all enjoyed our meals. The octopus salad was light and tasty on a warm day. We all stayed away from the steaks which are pricey for a simple lunch. What annoyed me was that we had to constantly ask for our carafe of still water to be refilled. It was a warm day and every time the vessel was empty, we had to personally ask for a refill and it is not as though that task was overlooked because the staff were rushed off their feet. Such a simple task that makes such a difference.
This place used to be fantastic back early last year. But the last 2 visits were a complete let down. I think the management has changed as the manager we met the first few times (who was friendly, accommodating and funny) was not there. The food has changed too, no long the grade it was when the place first started. Stay away from the smoked salmon on potato cake with avocado salsa, it WAS my favourite, its just disappointing now.
