Remember the days when you could have a delicious pizza from this place and love every bite? Those days are gone. Sad to say that Normanhurst Pizza has to decide if it is primarily a restaurant or a takeaway outlet. We went to dinner there last night, waited 1 hr 10 mins and still no food as the takeaway took priority. As my 6 year old was restless we decided to ask for it to go, the pizza's were all burnt and tasted dreadful. We used to love this place. What happened?

Normo's has the best pizza you'll find. We discovered this gem when in Sydney on a trip from Melbourne and I wish it was local to us. Fresh and flavoursome they have an amazing menu and seem to use quality ingredients rather than just heaping on loads of ordinary toppings. Staff were super friendly too. Can't recommend highly enough! Open a branch in Melbourne soon! Please?

We used to love this place but it has really gone down hill over the last year. The pizza now tastes very bland with half the amount of topping you used to get. Needless to say we don't eat here anymore.

Not sure I agree at all with the last two reviews. Maybe I caught them on a good night, however, we went with locals who recommended it and we really enjoyed the food and the service. OK, it has the ambience of a milk bar, but having said that, the pizzas were very good and reasonable value to.

This used to be the best pizza place around but it has changed hands recently and the pizzas are just not the same. We had three pizzas that basically tasted exactly the same. Bring back Helen, Joe and the rest of the old crew!

The family who owns the restaurant is nice and generous. My positive comments end here. If you live in the area and have butter chicken on your list of favourite foods (and routinely create it yourself with a jar of Patak's), then this is probably the restaurant for you!
The pizza tastes similar to something you would get at Pizza Hut or Dominoes, however for about twice or even thrice(!) the cost. This is probably why they can afford to give away rolls of their preservative laden, limp garlic bread. On the plus side, my dog seemed to have enjoyed the loaf. Unfortunately his incessant lapping up of water afterward suggested that a high amount of packet bought seasoning (MSG) was applied to the dough.
Admittedly, I do like the fact that NPC adds to quaint Normanhurst's nightlife (or rather, gives it one), but the pizza is not traditional, nor is it rustic despite claiming to be. The 'classic' or 'traditional' options are neither, and one would fail to find most of their options in any pizzeria in Italy. Conversely, their omission of many classic pizzas begs me to question if they can really call themselves a pizzeria.
Additionally, the pizza itself comes customary with a thick base and a greasy topping, with a lack of fresh ingredients. To make up for all this, Normanhurst Pizza Cafe has changed their name to "Normo Pizza", a cheapening which seems to really match the quality of their substandard food and patrons.
To fit in with the fine culinary tastes of the area, I'm sure Normanhurst Pizza (sorry, Normo, old habits die hard!) will fulfill your international-foods-non-anglo quota, despite being just that, anglicised. Please note that this is synonymous with 'bad'. Enjoy.

Latest update, they are so generous here, they always seem to give away free pizza or garlic bread! A couple of notes/warnings, the bottle shop has reopened and is pretty good-knowledgeable staff. The bottleshop also has eftpos if you need cash as the pizza restaurant does not take cards, only cash. Also you will not get a table on Friday night without booking, its a very popular place!
Update (May 2009), just wanted to add the blue cheese marguerita pizza to the favourites and to note that this is our new pizza place for Friday nights (formerly South Turramurra Pizza had the job). The liquor shop on the corner has closed so remember to bring your wine if you are eating in or you will have to drive to Thornleigh.
Original review: Not exactly great ambience, a makeover seriously in order here! pizzas were good especially the vegetarian. Free salad was a nice touch. Good cheap place to take the kids.

I eat there every sunday night with a group of friends and it's by far the best pizza I've ever eaten. Helen and joe (the proprietors) are super friendly and every time I go there I get an extra pizza.

We live in the area and wanted to try this cafe out. The waitress were very nice and friendly. The free garlic bread was surprising and awesome. We ordered half and half large pizza and it was so big and we couldn't finish it. Definitely will come back again!
