These reviews are, unfortunately, deceiving. We travelled over forty minutes for this joint and we were very disappointed. The establishment was empty, not one customer, yet we ignored the big fat warning and we got burned. The establishment (I still don't know what to call it, it certainly was not a restaurant, bordering more on a cafe from the 80's) was uninviting, drab, cold and a real shemozzle.
I always like the host to select their best dishes, which she did, and although there was no one else there, it took a long time for her to come over and serve us, and when the food came out, the service felt forced and intrusiv,; the service was very uncomfortable.
My partner said to me and I quote: "I am not fussy like you are but this food is terrible!". That pretty much sums it up. The flavours were poor, the meat was low quality, the calamari was like old rubber boots, only one prawn in the Pho. The rice paper rolls were just about inedible. The mint was far too prominent, and the alleged rice paper, was it rice paper? I have never experienced that texture before.
The herbs were hard and bitsy from the masterfood jars and it was very off-putting. The sauces were off-puttin,; there was absolutely no redeeming qualities in the food at all, and for two people who were starving hungry and usually eat quite a bit, that really says a lot!
Like one of the reviewers before me said, they found it hard to hand over the money at the end for such poor quality food. I have never eaten such poor-tasting and poor quality food ever. I was embarrassed I even brought a bottle of wine, the food didn't do its justice and I have never drunk so little wine in a given meal, a testament to how poor the food was. I just couldn't eat the food and as a consequence I had to get some take-away on the way home.
A most disappointing experience all round, and needless to say my partner won't be picking the restaurant next time lol. In fact this place should not even be listed under restaurants, but more take-away/cafe category.
I have been going to this restaurant for the past 5 years on a regular basis, and I can say that it has never failed me ever. The service from start to finish is excellent and very friendly which is makes it very enjoyable. The rice paper rolls are superb and the pho dac biet is great for a freezing night. Great job!
Very friendly service, however, the food was mediocre for the price. The beef in the pho was fatty and chewy, the spring rolls felt like they'd just cracked open a box of superior-grade pre-made. The chicken was awful. Chewy, and full of "chunky-bits", we couldn't even work out what flavour it was (I wanted satay but we think it was lemon-grass, still not sure to this day).
The cost was not a bargain. It was difficult to hand over the money given the quality of the food. In winter it is freezing cold in there too. The lady was probably the friendliest lady we have encountered in a restaurant situation though. So that was nice.
We were dressed for the occasion, a big night out in the City, read the reviews and was expecting a really nice well decorated packed to the rafters restaurant, to no avail. But what I can say is that this place is a great secret that only the locals know about. It does not look the best and we had second thoughts of going in but when we did we loved it.
The food was spectacular, fantastic spring rolls and the stuffed chicken wings are to die for! Stir fried vegies with bean curd mmm lovely, salt and pepper chicken crunchy and fresh. To sum this little gem of a restaurant up, dont over dress yourself or expect plush surrounds but expect exceptional value for money, fantastic food and a great time.
I was going through the reviews of this site and had notice this lil place recently. All these positive reviews have been well deserved as Nhat Tan is one of the best Vietnamese restaurants I have been to in a long time. The service is very friendly as the nice lady would usher us to a table with a warm and comforting smile (a nice start to any meal).
The spring roll entrees were just incredible with every bite as crunchy and tasty as the next. The Pho was also another highlight, as can be seen by the generous servings of meat and beansprout that was given to us with the pho and words cannot describe how good it was. All this good and at such a good price, there was nothing more we could as for. A great place to dine, and I would highly advise anyone who reads this to go there and give it a go.
One of the top Vietnamese restaurants in Sydney. The food is absolutely divine, the beef hot pot was gorgeous as was the salt and pepper chicken. The service was very helpful and friendly and my partner and I were kept amused watching an eighties music clip special on their large TV. Definitely go here for the food though which is excellent, especially the Pho.
The best Pho in the inner city! I had the chicken pho, stock was strong and delicious, plenty of chicken meat, and condiments just spot-on. Mum had the sate beef pho, stock perfect, spiciness perfect, meat portions perfect! I can't fault this little ripper at all!
I visited this little gem of a Vietnamese restaurant a couple of weeks ago and I must say I am impressed. The service is as pleasant as the food and my partner and I had a very enjoyable time at this establishment. The beef noodle soup is to die for as it brings an authentic Vietnamese taste to our mouths. The entree of spring rolls was also a delight as it was crisp and crunchy as would be expected from a spring roll. A very nice venue at a very good price. Kudos.
