Easily the best food served here of any of the clubs or pubs in the area. Service is helpful and friendly and with a choice of areas to eat. I will be back.

Armed with our Entertainment Book voucher (1 free meal with every one bought: max value $35) we headed off to the Newmarket Hotel in Mascot on a Sat eve.

It resembled a kind of railway station with large groups of people coming and going from the bar area via the eating area to the beer garden. Our table, right in the busy corridor between them wasn’t ideal. Luckily we had taken the precaution of booking ahead as the place was pretty packed with a few large party groups.

Although it says on the website that parking is available in the Bowling Alley car park around the corner in Tramway Street, we couldn’t get a park there as it was full. So we ended up having to park in a side-street quite a distance away.
Nevertheless, despite all this, we were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food.

It’s mainly modern Aussie-style cuisine such as fish, steak and schnitzel. But they also serve Italian dishes like pizzas and pastas. It’s a tad difficult to maximise value with your Ent Bk voucher unless you’re in the mood for a 400g steak ($35) as most main dishes are under $20. We ended up choosing from the blackboard specials, the 300g Angus sirloin steak with potato cake, baked tomato, mushrooms and béarnaise sauce for $32. Two of those plus a Leb-style starter platter of dips and hot bread and two drinks at the bar cost us a reasonable $49. And we enjoyed our meals.

The steaks were well cooked just the way we like them and the meat was tender and flavoursome. The starter platter didn’t disappoint either. It had soft, warm Leb bread with a selection of dips to go with it. I guess on a quiet night this place could be quite pleasant but given all the noise and tumult we didn’t linger too long after finishing our meals.

Despite the crowds, the staff kept their cool and remained helpful and polite. I liked the way they were all smartly turned out in black uniforms. Added a touch of class to a place not in the most salubrious suburb of Sydney! The toilets were disgusting, covered in graffiti and far too small for such a large venue.

I had to somehow pay my compliments for the great service and attention my family received from the awesome staff at the Newmarket last Thursday nite for my sisters birthday and when I googled them up I found eatability.com.

The food was fine and the ambience was good, packed house and we didn't wait long. The highlight was the service shown and dedication presented for our rather large group. We didn't have to wait too long and everybody was happy with their meal. Nice ambience for a bistro as well.

What a great place. We started visiting the bistro a few years ago and continue to still dine there, bringing along new people all the time. The service is outstanding. Although it is order drink and food at the bar, we always get a nice welcome when we come in, they consistently make sure to ask how our meals were and we never felt like we are being pushed out to turn over the table. Now for the food.

The regular menu is reasonable, with large servings and plenty of sides. But mention must be made for the specials. We had a seared salmon fillet one night that was a three hat restaurant quality. Prices are so reasonable as well. Highly recommended.

The food is average at best, my gnocchi, my friend counted 9 pieces! It was ok but my lamb skewers, Yes they were entree size but it looked like deep fried chicken kebab sticks! It's pub prices, reasonable.

Ambience: well its a pub with a dining area, nothing special. Nil issues with service.
The other thing I noticed is that if you go to bowling next door, its the same menu so at least the food will be decent.

Our friends 'the weeds' introduced Lil Neecy and I to this Bistro for a mid-week evening meal recently. As far as pub grub goes, the meals we had were well above the norm offered at most other pubs. We were pleasantly surprised at the fine quality of the steaks (mine a rib-eye) presented which were cooked just as we ordered together with fresh steamed vegies. According to the weeds, its difficult to get a table here end of the week. Will return.
