On the positive side we did not have to wait long for a table. The waiter was prompt and polite. The crispy skin prawns with shanghai sauce arrived promptly but was very average. After 30 minutes we asked where the dumpling order was, they apologized they had lost the order and offered to make the dumplings for us, 10 minutes later the order arrived. The beef and coriander dumplings were not cooked, the juice was red and the meat was raw. Will not go back.

My friends and I intended to go there for dinner one night. There was a long queue and we had to take a number. There were about 15 customers ahead of us. We waited for 40 minutes at the entrance and our number wasn't called. We went up to the waitress and she claimed that she had called out our number and told us off for walking off somewhere else when we were very obviously waiting in front of the restaurant the whole time.

She insisted that we get to the back of the line and take a new number which was 20 numbers after our number! She should at least have the courtesy to give us the next available table! Not wanting to wait for another half hour, we walked off very unhappy and hungry. We have eaten here before and the food is not bad. I don't think I'll come back because of the atrocious customer service.

There is another New Shanghai nearby in the Lemon Grove Shopping Complex which I think serves as good, if not better dumplings.

I have been here several time, we always ordered xiao long poa and steam dumpling pork & vege. The taste and the texture of the dumpling not the same. Sometime is good sometime too thick and sometime too salty. Seem like they cannot control the quality. They also should have more wait staffs, we always found that thier were available seats but no one clean the table just let the customers wait... wait their time!

Went to New Shanghai last weekend and was pleasantly surprised by the wonderful ambience. However the food was average, in particular the skin on the dumplings were quite thick and came out lukewarm. I would not recommend ordering the dumplings of the xiao long bao. It was very difficult to communicate with the waitress as she didn't really understand what we were trying to order. Not impressed with the service and attitude of serving staff.

From the bicycle parked outside to the cobblestone floors to the charming red banners and the surly, lemon-faced waitresses taking our order, this place has really taken upon itself to bring a slice (or should I say wedge?) of China to Chatswood Chase Food Court.

The food was great, their xiao long bao are topped up with steaming broth, their vegetables fresh and tasty, the Peking style beef strips are chopstick-lickingly good and the pan-fried dumplings big and hearty. The xiao long bao are not quite as good as you'd get at somewhere else but for the price, we couldn't really complain.

What my family and I did take issue with was the service. It ranges from surly to non-existent, with a dollop of bored indifference to go. I get that the place is busy, but that's no excuse to treat your customers like second-rate citizens. Incompetent is the best you can hope for here. The first time we went, it was ok, the food was nice enough to make up for the service.

The second time we went, however, we were seated at a dirty table (which our waitress refused to clean), pointedly ignored when we tried to make requests, and served lukewarm food. A terrible shame, since the ambience is otherwise very nice, cute tables, quirky cobblestone floors and charming banners.

Beautiful decor, tasty food and revolting service. A shame, really.

What a great looking restaurant. The Dumplings are great! The Best I have had!
It is a shame that the service is little below par. Anyway, definitely will be back for more dumplings!

Came here for Father's day dinner last night and to beat the queues we went extra early at 6pm. Our food came out literally 5 minutes after we ordered - usually I would not be complaining about fast service, but it was clear that our Shanghai fried noodles and xiao long bao steamed dumplings had simply been re-heated from a pre-made batch rather than being freshly made because the dough on the xiao long bao was much too hard to have been freshly steamed and the noodles merely lukewarm. We were also unimpressed by the unresponsive service from 3/4 of our waitresses.

No bookings so get here early or it could be a long wait. Service is not the best, however, the food is awesome. Reliably good dumplings and reasonably priced. You can choose a variety of dishes to share. One of our favourite restaurants in Chatswood.

Had lunch here today. Probably would have been a rave review if it wasn't for the service. Issues probably lost in translation more than anything. Took them over 70 minutes to get two lots of dumplings to the table (midday). Had to ask for a hurry up a few times as I was late for a meeting. The xiao long bao were spot on but the fried dumplings were less than average. Dough too thick and probably had an extra 3 minutes in the oil than needed.

Tried to tell the head waiter in a nice way but he dismissed me as an idiot. Funny how they have a minimum spend for Eftpos and cc of $30, otherwise, $1 surcharge. Cash is obviously king here! There are heaps better places in Chatswood to enjoy Shanghai Cuisine than this restaurant which is a mix of food from all over China.

It's really good food, however the view out into the shopping centre sort of ruins the ambience somewhat. They were very busy the night we were there and it took a while for our order to be delivered, but when they were I was quite pleased.
