Good decent food for lunch at a reasonable price, especially if you have the lunchtime specials - $10. Not too much variety though, and that does let it down a bit. Pleasant ambience.

A great local pub with a friendly atmosphere. I went on a night that was quiet. There weren't many patrons, only a few older people sitting around the bar. This was a nice break from the usual drunken noise you hear in Sydney pubs. I didn't have the food but everything I saw being served was of very generous portions and smelt really good. Look forward to going back.

I am a local in th area and I love the Nags Head Hotel. I go there every other weekend with my girlfriends. The food is amazing, great value for money! The food is only trumped by the service. All of the staff are friendly and personable. A great pub!

Had a weekday lunch here with my husband & we both really enjoyed our meals! He had steak & I had the beef ribs (holey-moley were they massive & delicious!). The service, however, was quite slow & we were desperately looking at the kitchen with hungry eyes by the time our meals came out! We will return tho, cos the meals were really great value & tasted good!

We had a dinner at this bistro friday night. Me and my boyfriend ordered 400g Rib-Eye Fillets. I ordered medium rare, but it came with medium and the edge was already well-done. Since we had an entertainment card, we received one steak free so, it was good value for what we had for 2.

At the price I would expect more. The 300g rump steak was meant to be medium, it came out full of blood! We sent it back and got a crucified piece of meat back lucky if it weighed more than 180g. For $20 I expect a side salad as well, not blackened steak on a bed of soggy chips. The nachos at $15, was frozen premix meat, with a brown glob of avocado and sour cream, no salsa, no flavour! If I was paying half those prices I wouldn't have cared, about as much as the kitchen does.

Joined this site in order to give review on this pub. Went for the roast last Sunday, and although the quality of the meat was good, the meal as a whole was insulting! Came with a small lump of potatoes buried underneath the meat, and the veg consisted of three bits of carrots, and One (yes one) green bean cut into four small bits and scattered amongst the potatoes. That was classed as a roast!? As an Englishman I was truly disgusted with this excuse for a Sunday lunch and genuinely angry.

We had to had to wait quite a while fit it as well! The food took up no more than a third of the plate, and left a very bitter taste in mine and my girlfriend's mouth in more ways than one! Will not ever be returning here!

I have eaten at the Nags Head Hotel (newcastle) only once and thank god it has only been that many times, upon entering the restaurant the smell of urine and cigarette smoke filled my nose as the toilet is located right next to the restaurant entrance. Having my elderly nan with me the climb up the huge set of stairs was not pleasant also. After getting to the wait station all I could hear was a potty mouthed kitchen staff yelling at his staff to hurry up constantly, having younger members of my family present all I gave to the waiter was a look of disgust.

I booked at table 4 days in advance and this aside I was placed on a tall table in the middle of the lounge, not in the restaurant, the table was about 1.5 meters high and uncomfortable (especially for my nan). After ordering, food took forever to come out, entree's were tasteless and unsatisfying even for entree's.

The mains came out irregularly ie. members of my family had there meals 15 minutes before I did. upon receiving my meal which was the viking cutlet, it was burnt, over cooked, the base it arrived on (potato skins and bacon) were tough, dry and like they had been scraped off the bottom of a burnt pan. The slab of meat was drowned in a mustard sauce that could only be described as, well probably about a week old.

My families meals were not much of an improvement either. If you plan on eating at the nags head with out having your taste buds abused or for the fear of having to fight of a drunk patron because the owner obviously doesn't care about the one rule of "you've had too much to drink kindly leave" and is more worried about the hip pocket, then I'd steer clear of this highly overrated so called restaurant.

I have found that everytime I go here, I know what to expect and I get what I expect. There is always a smile on the bar staff and they are always really helpful when I ask questions. The food is not the cheapest, but in my experience, it's the best. You can't ask for much more than that!

Came here on a weeknight and still remembered the decor being the same from the nineties. A framed newspaper article says it has indeed been renovated since though. This place had about 3 or 4 tables of diners in the restaurant on a Tuesday night. Had the Garlic & Rosemary Marinated Chicken Breast (served with warm green bean, zucchini & tomato salad). Not sure where the tomato salad was but the tomato based sauce seriously needed some good old mash to soak it up as it was a bit on the salty side.

A wrong order mishap meant I had to wait longer then the others but I must say I was pretty chuffed to be offered a complementary drink which happened to be another Bulmers Beer. My partner had a pub style Chicken Schnitzel which I thought was a pretty generous serving. Place still feels like a quaint old local with heavy wood tables and chairs placed in the dining room and the front bar smack in the middle so there is a lot of snaking around to find a good spot to sit if wanting to sit in the bar.
