A great little place in an old terrace on Glebe Point Road (which means put on your fighting suit to get a car park). The menu is not extensive, but includes ginseng chicken soup (we didn't try it this time, but it is standard fare in Korea and not often found on Sydney menus). The barbeque dishes were cooked for us, which was a slight disappointment (we love stoking the hot plate), but the food was well prepared and cooked.
The seafood barbeque had at least two prawns, so by any greek, Southbank, Melbourne standard, that's a feast. The ox tail soup went down a treat on this cold winter evening (and it was late on a Tuesday, of all nights). Mu Kung Hwa is well worth a try and we will be going back for more. The dishes were very affordable, and we noted a high proportion of student customers.
A caveat though, there is a public housing estate nearby and some less than desirable types were hanging around the streets when we left which meant hold on to your bags and avoid eye contact!!! Oh, and by the way, they (the restaurant) don't take American Express.
This restaurant proves you don't need a fancy fitout and excessive prices to have a wonderful dining experience. The food is deceptively simple but the flavours are divine, whether you have seafood, meat or vegetarian dishes you won't be disappointed. Even the side dishes served with the main meal are superb. The service is lovely and friendly, the atmosphere very comfortable, and the staff are more than happy to explain any of the more exotic dishes. I have been bringing friends and family here to eat for years, and I look forward to every opportunity to dine at this wonderful restaurant.
I love this restaurant! The food is amazing and the staff are always so friendly! I have been eating here a least once a month for the last 3 years! As a veggie you can't go wrong with the steamed veggie dumplings followed by the vegetarian dol sot- yum!
Our family (2 adults, 8yr + 15yr old) have just returned from a very enjoyable dinner at Mu Kung Hwa. The food was generous and exactly the right amount and very authentic and tasty Korean. We ordered the BBQ banquet for 4 for $22 which was great value. The first entree was a Korean speciality of sweet potato noodles which our informative waitress told us was a traditional birthday dish. She gave explanations of all our dishes which was wonderful.
We next had a raw salmon chilli sauce salad and a rice dish fried at the table. The main was pork, beef and chicken marinated meat cooked at the table hibachi style. The meats were flavoursome and accompanied by little vegetable dishes and a soup. Would recommend to anyone and will definitely go back as a family favourite. There were a few group bookings there having a good meal too.
Great service, food was good. I live local in glebe and I will be back. Normally I go city for korean but I would recommend this place to anyone. Traditional korean kind respectful welcoming service, thanks guys!
