I went to yum cha on a Saturday with a group of six. We found the food to be great, especially the greens and the vegetable prawn dumplings.

Our experience of the service was good. They were fast to bring us forks for 3 of the group, and happy to have the kitchen organise mango pudding for us. Tea was refilled quickly and there was a ready variety of food on offer.

We stayed a while having a chat and drinking tea, and despite the queue at the door they were happy for us to stay. With a mix of big and small eaters the meal came to $135, quite reasonable.

Two criticisms - while we were sorting out the $ for the final bill amongst us they kept wanting to take the tray, infact they went to grab it about 6 times and we had to tell them Togo away while we worked out each persons change. We were happy to leave a small tip so didn't have the problem reported here.

One of the fried dishes was only lukewarm when it came to the table and another was room temp.

The food is average to above average and you can watch HDTV from anywhere in the restaurant but they are the only good things. Service is bad as they deliberately overcharge and you must walk fast to anyone to get served if not on the aisle.

Food is ok, service a bit on the short side. They tend to ignore some people for their other patrons. Out of the past four times I have been here they have overcharged on two occasions.

Beware they charge a 5% surcharge for credit cards but cheekily charged me 10% surcharge on my first visit. As others have mentioned this mob don't give any change so make sure you pay with exact cash. And remember to check your bill.
They even charge for the accompaning chilli sauce which is placed on the table as soon as you sit down without asking.

And beware they also charge for tap water which I believe is an illegal practice, which happened on our last visit, which in fact will be our very last visit.

In terms of yum cha, Mr Chao offers dishes that most other restaurants no longer serve (like the "shark fin" soup dumpling) so it's always refreshing to have something different for a change.

Don't expect a beautiful atmosphere. It's yum cha, so it's noisy. There are people shouting and people walking around all the time. Last time, we sat close to the place where they put dirty dishes and my boyfriend got splashed with sauces from another persons plate and the waiter just left without saying anything.

Probably better value if you join their loyalty scheme that gives you discounts on weekdays, but not a bad choice if you get a good table early on the weekend!

I had a similar experience to the 1st review, except in my case they did not come back with any change and kept it! When I asked for the change after a long wait, they said it was their tip. Mind you the change was $8.20, it wasn't like $1. And they should return all money to the table and Then wait for the tip, not just keep the money as to how they see fit. And the attitude was absolutely rude and disgraceful. I will definitely not be going back.

Tried Yum Cha here this week, below average food and mega sub standard service. My bill for Yum Cha comes to $42.95, I wanted to clean my coins out and didn't want to wait for 10 minutes change seesion if I give them a $50 note. So I come up with 2x 20 notes and $2.90 coins, missing the 5 cent short, the waiter stood there looked at me and said, "You are short 5 cents". So I have no choice but to give them a $50 note, as me and my wife waited ages for the $7.05 change, joking I said to my wife, if they come back with the $7.00 only with 5 cents short, I will complaint.

Guess what ? they did come back with the 5 cents short with $7.00 change only. So I complained at the table to the same waiter, asking him why is the 5 cents missing, he look annoyed and told me to wait for the 5 cents change, I told him that he can have it as a tip. We will never be back!
