The food and service has definitely improved since I was there early last year. It is nice to see that fresh and tasty food has become a priority at Plantation. It definitely excels beyond other bar, restaurants on the northern beaches in terms of both food and also value. I would happily return again with family or friends. Well done crew at the Mona! Great to see some good food finally. Went down to the plantation bistro the other nite wow what a difference the new menu is great last time here I had frozen fish and packet gravy now tapas and fresh blue eye cod service seems better well done guys keep going in the same direction.

I have eaten here a few times again over the last months and always enjoyed it. Will definitely keep going back if quality is kept up. It's not fine dining and not pretending to be (unlike many pubs nowadays). Good, unpretentious Pub food, well priced and cooked.

I have recently visited the Mona Vale Hotel with my mother who is a fussy eater especially when it comes to pubs. We were there for lunch during the week and we really enjoyed our meals and the service the girls provided. It was lovely sitting out in the sun in the Bali style courtyard.

I think there may be a new chef on as we ordered the risotto and it was very tasty and a little different from what I have seen before. The Steak Sandwich looked really fresh. The food also looked great, not just slapped on a plate like most bistro style places. I would recommend going to the Mona Vale Hotel to catch up with friends in courtyard.

I coudn't think of a more despisable place to eat. Not only was my steak over cooked and salad leaves soggy from too much dressing, it was over priced and late because the head kitchen staff couldn't keep up with the orders on a vaguely busy night. I had frequented the hotel in the past couple of years and now returned with much disappointment and will not return there unless there is a change of cooks completely.

It seems Mona Vale Hotel may finally be doing things right. After a friend suggested meeting for lunch there I had some hesitations knowing what terrible experiences I have had in the past. Meeting in the beer garden for lunch midweek turned into a very enjoyable experience. Not only has the hotel had a revamp, it seems the staff and the food have to. Congratulations for finally getting it right.

I must admit had I looked at last years reviews I would not have ventured in the door, as it turned out I was in the area and wanted an easy feed and thought I could get it here. I was informed they have renovated the place (the beer garden is very Balinese in style) so, perhaps, besides ditching the old decor they also ditched the old chef. I had a crisp roasted chicken with field mushrooms and my husband had a steak with vegetables. Both meals were very good, the steak cooked med-rare as requested and both arrived in good time.

While we may have been out of the peak times I really could not fault it to the extent of other reviewers. As far as pricing goes, it is still around the $20+ for a main (ie. steak, chicken etc.) but they also offer the other pub grub such as burgers for around $15. Maybe they have turned the page.

Walk in and had to wait 15 minutes for a table in a cold corner next to the garden.

Then we ordered a cheese bread and two salads. We got those little buzzer pager devices which are supposed to let us know when our food is ready. At 8:25 pm I went to the food area and asked one of the guys behind the counter where our food was..."Sorry we are really busy it'll be out soon". I noticed a salad waiting on the steel shelves behind him.

At 8:35pm my slightly irritated wife went and asked another of the staff where our food was. She was really sorry (what else is she going to say? "I don't care"???) and she must've realised that they forgot my wife's salad as mine had been waiting there for 30 minutes and how long does it really take to throw some vegetables on a plate and splash some vinegar on it? Finally at 8:50 am our buzzer buzz, I don't know whether we were excited because of the extreme hunger or finally our frustrations were over.

The girl told my wife that my salad was going to be redone, the chicken in the chicken caesar was rock hard and the cheese bread was like last nights cheese pizza. We finally got our food, ate it, though by that time we were ready to start stripping leaves from the bushes in the garden and eat them so we didn't starve to death. Took about 10 minutes to eat the okay tasting, overpriced chicken salad and got the hell out of there.

The veg pizzas I ordered was nice, but I could have done without the salad piled on top of it. My husband's coconut prawns and his calamari looked almost burnt. Overall, average food and service.

Terrible on all acounts. Very over priced for a pub and staff are way to pretentiuos.

Give it a miss.
