Great food, the pad thai tastes authentic, at least it does to me. The place is small and hidden, but otherwise ok. Service is good. Definitely great value for money for their lunch special.

This place is a hidden gem although its currently geared mainly for takeaway there are a few tables and it nice to sit there and enjoy your BYO as they don't charge corkage. Its definitely value for money and the food is very nice, its the first time we've dined in after ordering takeaway the previous few times. There's not that much seating there so can't really rate the ambience. Service is quick and friendly.

I've lived in Artarmon for about 27 years and remember this place as Tipplers Wine bar in the late '70s and early '80s with its marvelously kitsch gothic timber beams made of fiberglass and live solo guitar acts. Wine bars fell out of fashion in the mid '80's and it changed to a Thai restaurant run by a Thai fellow. In the mid '90s a Thai lady named Vicki and her girlfriend took over with an old lady cook who produced the best Thai food I've ever tasted. Flight Centre took over the downstairs in about 2003 but in a never-say-die move Vicki and her cook retreated to the upstairs where the kitchen and some extra dining room space is located and soldiered on for about two years before handing over to a young Thai couple.

The main drawback with the new arrangement post Flight Centre is that there is no main street presence anymore and people are all but unaware of the restaurant's existence unless they happen to see it when driving down the lane behind the main street. Also, there is perhaps only enough seating inside for 2 couples with the bulk of the tables located in an outside covered patio area which is OK on fine summer days and nights but maybe a bit cold, wet and windy in winter. The young Thai couple moved on recently and handed over to another young Thai couple from Leichardt who have really spruced the place up and upgraded the outdoor dining area, making it very pleasant, especially on a balmy summer evening. This couple should prosper if they tap the lucrative local takeaway and home delivery market, heavily promote their hard to find location, talk up their outdoor dining facility and their great $7 lunchtime specials. I had their green chicken curry $7 lunchtime special and am pleased to report that it was generous in size and very authentic in taste. These guys are working hard and deserve a break, so why not give them a go?

I saw this place while driving down the lane at the back of Hampden Road, just behind the Flight Centre office, and decided to give them a go. They've apparently just taken over from the last people and have done a lot of work doing the place up, and it was indeed neat as a pin. There's a small number of tables indoors but far more outdoors in an enclosed veranda which we opted for as it was a pleasant evening.

We shared coconut prawns ($8) and money bags ($7.50) for entrees which were sensational to say the least. For mains we went for that old favourite pad Thai ($10.90) and prawn laksa ($16.90). The food was fresh as you can get and the cook really knows how to put taste into his dishes, so we hit the jackpot with this unassuming little gem of a place. It's byo (no corkage) and they do takeaway and home deliver too. I'll be working my way through this place's menu for sure!
