Overview of Mino

Mino Japanese Restaurant is known for its Kaiseki 6 course banquet menu, however we also have a la carte menu for more casual dining. Mino's menu is not only for that special occasion but also for a more casual night out.

We went on a sunday night and had the $38 per head for 5 courses meal. The serving is quite small but the food is well presented and tastes great. It's a great place to go if you want somewhere quiet and $38 is good value for money.

Best value Kaiseki banquets in Sydney ($39 for 3 course & $55 for course, menu changes monthly). Delicately combined Japanese flavours served in hand made dishes by local japanese potter. Traditional style decore is charming and authentic. Friendly owner/chef and staff. One of my favourite restaurants.

Went here recently after a friend recommended it. Hired the whole restaurant (40ppl) for the mino and goshu banquet. Was a little unorganised to start with due to the language barrier. Food was fantastic, well proportioned, interesting flavours (the barramundi was beautiful). Not your typical Japanese restaurant, the combination of flavours were of a higher stand. We were so impressed and we have actually booked the whole restaurant again!

I have been here many times over several years and have always been impressed. The food is extraordinary value and if this restaurant was in the city, I would imagine prices would be 2X and more. Flavours are delicate and while not pure Japanese an interesting mix.

After hearing so many good things about Mino, I was really disappointed. The tuna sashimi was still frozen in places, and the cooked fish dishes (barramundi, kingfish) didnt seem especially fresh. Certainly the $55 banquet provides a lot of food, but since the quality is sub-standard it's hard to say it's value for money. Flavours seemed stodgy and muddled, rather than the light fresh tastes I'm accustomed to with Japanese food

Skilled owner/chef delivered some pretty good kaiseki selection. Only 5 courses (hence Mino calles it "Mini Kaiseki manquet") instead of traditional 8-12 courses. but for $38 it is worth it. I will recommend to any one who appreciates food as much as art - each dish is served with much thought, visually striking and tastes authentic. If you are not prepared to pay $150pp for a traditional Kaiseki banquet, then Mino is an excellent place to try it without hurting the wallet. Btw, for those who judge food by its size, you miss the essence of Kaiseki Ryori. Want quantity? go to Maccas.

We have been here twice now and found the food to be completely melt in the mouth. While we were there on a Sun and Tue, we found the service to be excellent both times. The Kaiseki is fantastic and good value especially on a weekday. Will be back many times now that we found it.

Can't comment on food, because didn't hang around for it. Took 40 minutes to get a glass of water, and even that took a hassle. Then the bottle of wine came, was accepted and then the waitress returned out back with it instead of opening at the table. The waitress then returned with a bottle which the cork had been pushed into the bottle. Overall atrocious service, and expensive anyway for meal sizes from what we could see. Found a much better Japanese down the road....

Good value and more interesting than your stock standard Japanese restaurant with some interesting twists. Can be compared with Tetsuya's in terms of innovation but being essentially a Japanese restaurant, it does not have European ingredients like foie gras or truffles. Highly recommended.
