At Menya, we pour our hearts into our noodles. Ever since the first Menya outlet (now Menya Chinatown) opened in Sydney in January 2005, our soups, which are made from scratch over many hours using the finest quality pork and chicken, have been our pride and joy.
Our customers can choose from a range of authentic soup flavours like Shoyu (Soy Sauce), Miso, Shio (Seafood and Chicken Combination) and Tonkotsu (Pork Bones) and we are proud to have remained a steady favourite among Sydney’s ramen aficionados
We have also worked hard to create a dining experience where customers can enjoy courteous and attentive service in a stylish environment, and all for a reasonable price.
At Menya, we believe that by continuing to flourish, we are contributing to the local community. For that reason, we will continue to strive to be a noodle bar that customers keep coming back to.

This has to be one of my favourite places for a good, cheap feed on the go. The self service aspect and crammed tables isn't for everyone but I like the buzzy, informal atmosphere this creates. Not a place for a loungey lunch, romantic date, group outing to be sure but if you want a great value meal in the city you can't go wrong!
In terms of food quality, it's really pretty great, especially for the price. The servings are large and turnover means tempura and other dishes that need to be fresh are continually being made. As for me, I go for the ramen most of the time, hearty, savoury and warming - recommended!

Been here about 3-4 times and it has been great everytime. The noodle is nice, but the tempura is why I come back. Delicious, golden, crispy and is even better when dipped into the soup. Definitely recommend the vegetable tempura! Although the store is abit small and cramp, it does have a Japan-feel to it.

Went to the Menya Mappen a few months ago with a friend who had been recommended to visit during lunch for their udon meals. It is an interesting experience, having to queue up and build on for you own meal. If you don't mind the self-serve of ingredients for your dish, then it's fun. Food is quite nice as was the noodles, soup stock base and I quite liked their condiments and want to try their Onigiri next time.

The best thing about Menya is the very cheap food (noodles with tempuraed stuff about $8). For what you pay, you will actually end up quite full, even though it seems as if all you are getting is a small bowl of noodles and tempuraed vegetables.
The noodles and soup are hot, as are the tempura pieces. The tempura pieces are well made and there's a good variety of things to choose from. The addition of shallots and tempura flakes also makes the set complete.
The restaurant itself is pretty much like a noodle bar. Nothing fancy and I would not go here if you are in a large group or want a place to sit/chat for a long time. This is a quick eat/go place. I would also avoid this place at peak lunch/dinner times as the line for it becomes quite full and there are often not enough seats. Be prepared to share a table with randoms.
The service is pleasant and efficient.

Fantastic noodle bar, a little cramped but made me feel like I was back in Japan. Food was good, great selection of add on extras. Love their new venture next door as well (Oiden Shokudo, for rice based meals). Recommended for a quick tasty good value meal!

I have finally found a restaurant in Sydney that come as close as to the real Japanese taste that I've experience whilst living in Tokyo. Ok, the place might not be the greatest, but as long as the food and service is up to scratch, and this one is 100%, that's all what matters really. Food is just delicious and price is probably the best you can find, especially been so centrally located. Highly recommend it!

Noodle quality is good and ontama is well prepared. The shop feels small and dark and there is a queue of people all the time right next to you - if you can stand that then it's a good quick feed for everybody.

It's a unique concept where you have no reserved seating, and a long queue. However, by the time you get your food the seating is usually free. The food is quite good, and the ability to choose your own makes it fun.

The setup is similar to a trendy, closed-room Japanese tuckshop, so expect to see queues forming after 12. Food is authentic imo, and with Japanese music playing in our shared, cramped space, I felt a bit like we were in Japan. $10 for a quick hot meal. Menu is not as large as at the main Menya.

It is pretty cool how all the instructions are laid out for you, no confusion on what you are meant to do. Pick up your drink out of the fridge, there is water available free of charge from a dispenser if you would prefer. Order your noodles and collect them.
Slide your tray along to the tempura section and choose what tickles your fancy. Next along the “canteen” line are an assortment of pickles, vegetables etc. To read more about the food and see photos please visit my blog site Belly Rumbles.
