Mecca is here for one thing, and one thing only: Coffee!! I have bought coffee from many cafes across Sydney but Mecca makes the best coffee in Sydney by far without a doubt. The owners live and breath coffee, they are passionate and they set the standard here. Being a cappuccino drinker, I can confidently say they make the creamiest most delicious cappuccino around. They are extremely busy in the mornings and it's not hard to see why. Although new baristas sometimes compromise on the high standard, the owners are spot on everytime.

For those that prefer a hot chocolate or mocha, they are equally as good as their coffees and if you love the coffee and can't get enough you can even buy their beans to take home, which is also a fantastic treat - some of the best beans I have bought, they are usually roasted only a few days ago! Their food is very limited and overpriced, typical cafe style selection, small servings and expensive but you really only go there for the coffee, oh and you can't go wrong with a chocolate brownie as well!

The coffee is among some of the best I've tried. I once ordered a banana bread which tasted a bit strange, can't pinpoint why though. Not a great menu choice but it's clear they're there for the consistently great espresso! I am a regular whenever in town.

Visited Mecca a few weeks ago and was rather unimpressed. The two espresso coffees I tasted were flat, rather bland and poorly presented - each coffee had a significant amount of residual grain in the bottom of the cup, and coffee stains on the side of the cup which were probably caused when the coffeemaker pulled the cup away from the group too early. I also tasted a cappuccino which while well prepared in terms of milk preperation, suffered from the same problem as the espresso - a bland, lifeless taste. This leads me to think poorly of Mecca's coffee blend - lack of body, palatable acidity and slightly off-toasted aromas and after taste. In addition, tried a couple of cakes. Friand was completely stale and served cold (fridge cold) - couldn't the staff have taken the 10 seconds or so to warm it?

The best coffee in Sydney's CBD. Food is a little limited but if you have even the vaguest interest in good coffee then after you've been here, you'll understand why it's called Mecca Espresso. Decent selection of sandwiches and your usual array of friends, muffins, fruit breads etc. Really all about the coffee here, all coming from the UFO -like espresso machine with foot-pedal steam control. Another must visit for coffee lovers!
