Been a regular at this restaurant and is by far one of the best ones in Surry Hills. Food is consistently good and it has a great ambience. I would highly recommend it as I am there atleast once in two weeks, the saag methi mushroom is the best! Keep it up.

I strongly recommend you do Not go to this restaurant or order takeaway from them. The staff are incredibly rude and dishonest. I ordered food for delivery which took 2 and a half hours and even then I had to go and collect it after repeatedly being told it was "on it's way".

Love their Tandoori Items especially the Tandoori Chicken. I usually take a whole chicken home so I can enjoy the Bones.

There are three Maya restaurants in Cleveland St, Surry Hills. The original Maya south Indian vegetarian and sweet shop, Maya Tandoori, the most recent of the three, upstairs from the original Maya, and Maya da Dhaba across the road. I am not sure what the business connection between them is, but the three are quite different in their food offerings and the way they are run.

We visited this restaurant again recently. My earlier impressions were not too favourable, but my wife, who is well acquainted with Indian food, always liked their offerings. They have lifted the standard of service, which was definitely unsatisfactory on earlier occasions, and the proprietor came and had a chat and took an interest in our opinions.

They have an interesting variety of dishes on offer now, some of which were new to me, and the quality and quantity were good. The restaurant layout is quite tasteful, and there is a nice balcony area.

It's nice to see the improvement in this place. We will be back.

When I go out, it is for the package. Yes I am forgiving but I am looking for good food and equally good service. Other like the ambience is relative and out of control and varies from night to night and I do not care about the lack of it. The tandoori was good but barely. The temp of the dish was below average and the time it took to get it was way toooooo loooooong. The service is lacking although trying. Not good.

Terrible service. I went by myself to have a quiet evening and a nice dinner. I sat outside, a good place and i chose it. Waitstaff were quite slow considering the restaurant was almost empty. They took ages to bring my starters and equally long time to bring the main. Food was okay but too much oil.

This is up there with the best Indian food I've had. Serving sizes were bigger than usual too. Goat Masala was a highlight.

Service was pretty good but when we had a lot left over and asked for a container they not only left the container on the table for us to do the honours but they also charged us For the container! Would forgive cos the food was very good.

We dined here on Saturday night. I appreciate a BYO restaurant as I can drink whatever beer I like. We were both reasonably happy with the food. The Kurkuri onion and spinach Bhaji was really good, as was the korma lamb shank although the fish curry arrived undercooked. The service was excellent, the waiters and maitre de were attentive and friendly. On the night they were offering a two for one meal deal so the evening was reasonably priced.

Like a lot of people, we experience Maya Tandoori based on a spend $29 and receive $70 worth of food. With my internal abacus turned on, we were going to achieve full value, which surprisingly was going to be harder than we thought, with the prices being quite good and the servings much larger than expected. Now to why some ratings are low:

Food and value were good. We are rating the value based on $70 as that is the full price not the $29 as that would just be dumb. The food was plentiful and tasty, especially the Goat Masala, yummo and the Tandoori Chicken (a full chook here, which is not bad value for $16.90) was cooked to perfection.

While the service staff are friendly, they appear a bit sixes and sevens a lot of the evening and it is not that busy really (Friday night too). I think the kitchen was letting them down as I needed to go and find the mains after waiting 45 minutes from clearing of the entrees. My partner and I usually fill plenty of time chatting to each other normally but we were hungry and I'm testy when that is the case.

We were seated on the balcony, which in April is just lovely. A fan was nicely placed on the wall to sweep some cooling air about and a commercial grade and transparent blind kept the Cleveland St muck away. Cannot imagine being out here during summer or peak hour though.

Overall not too bad but over 2 hours for 2 people to eat 2 entrees and 2 mains (mind you heaps of leftovers brought home for Saturday lunch), not impressive guys.

I went here on a voucher deal and was glad that it only cost me $29! Previous comments mention the service. I found the 3 girls who were working on the night to be lovely. They do patrol the floor waiting for you to finish your food so they can whisk it away a.s.a.p but that honestly didn't bother me.

We started with the Murg Malai Kabab and Kurkuri Onion. The Murg is a chicken and cheese dish which was nice but the menu definitely over sold both dishes. For main we had the chicken Jhalfrezi and Lamb Kadai Gosht. The gravy for both was far too thick and the lamb was tough as old boots. The chicken dish was our favourite of the two but we really didn't enjoy them. We just had the usual accompaniments of Naan and Rice and the bill came to $70.50 so we ended up with a bill for an additional 50 cent. (from the voucher use)

Overall I found service to be good but the food was bad. It actually made us slightly iffy in the tummy area to be honest with a bit of apologising happening the following morning. In a nut shell I would have been upset to have spent $70.50 and I wouldn't go back.
