If you want to feel like cattle go to Max Brenner in Parramatta. The service is pathetic and the setup just as terrible. You wait in a line that goes out the door just to place an order on one register. Then someone comes around to you in line and says oh if you don't have a table I recommend someone looks! Anyway go to the one in Double bay. At least you get seated and if it is full you get turned away. Not made to wait in a line.
Service takes absolutely forever! Waited 45 minutes for a coffee, I couldn't believe it. Also there is a 10% surcharge on saturdays! I bet they don't pay their staff any extra. Sure the food is amazing but how long do they expect us to wait!!
Called in to fix the after dinner sugar craving, seeing it was busy we pounced on the first available table, this place can get manic! Not something I would be travelling back for in a hurry, the souffle was a bit rich and the coffee average. Service was ok, typical of the age group employed. Nice for a novelty visit though.
Total waste of time. The service was terrible. My friend and I only wanted something for our sweet tooths so we ordered a small pot of hot chocolate and 4 strawberries. This simple order took about 30 mins to be on our tables. It was unbelievable.
I had to ask a waiter where our food was and said we had been waiting for about half an hour. She seemed very clueless and uninterested. I still can't believe it took half an hour to put something so simple together! Appalling.
I love this place get really busy after 6 pm so best to come in early. Tried everything on the menu, can be a bit pricey but nice for a treat, only bad thing is around 2.30-3 pm the kids from school are around and noisy but I absolutely love it. The souffle and white choc chai are my faves.
Definitely some place I would go on a day when I have chocolate cravings. I've been there quite a few times and its quite nice actually if you go on days when its quieter so you actually get more attention from the waiters. However, yes busy days are the worst, half an hour wait in line, half an hour wait for food and you have to look for seats. But usually it ends up being alot of fun and in the end it becomes worth it all.
I really enjoy eating at Max Brenner, however, only once in a while because the food here is pretty pricey. The souffle is absolutely divine and I really enjoy the waffles. Haven't really tried the others, but those two are definitely my favourites...
This place is always busy as well. I hope they expand because my friends and I can never get a seat.
The only thing worth eating is the Belgium waffles *drools*. They're good with little sugar chunks inside (better than waffles from Lindt Cafe). Service is terrible; we had to wait 20 minutes before having to ask for our waffles before they served us. Service was unorganised. The Mexican chocolate tasted watery...where was the chocolate and spices??? It's always overcrowded and finding seating is sometimes near impossible. Probably won't be coming back anytime soon.
I reviewed this place a while ago, but I'm changing it.
We went here today simply for A HOT CHOCOLATE. After walking into the packed place, we were ordered by the lousy waiter to line up along the counter, as if we were all stupid or something. If they are so desperate for people to do that, then they should at least put a sign or something, instead of demanding it from everyone as if we're all stupid.
The food, although something of a treat, is not worth the dodgy LACK OF ambience, lousy service and value. Yes, it's chocolate and rich, and yum (especially for chocoholics out there) while you're eating it. But we've been there a few times now, and I always walk away feeling heavy and bloated! Seriously... not all chocolate makes you feel that way!
The place is always crowded. Inside, it was hot, stuffy and loud. We sat outside, and instead were just saturated with cigarette smoke and the noise of buses and trains driving past behind. Not exactly what I'd call "nice ambience".
Service is THE WORST. We waited 20 MINUTES for a hot chocolate! The staff all seem inexperienced, rude, grumpy and act like they have NO idea what they're doing. I don't even know whether they have someone in charge there.
Not worth what you pay for. I doubt we'll go back. There are better chocolate places out there.
I presume the chocolate in different Max Brenner would still taste the same since they should be using the same ingredients, but I was wrong! The chocolate in the Parramatta shop is bland and watery. And the staff was not friendly at all! Much preferred the St Ives shop.
