Martin Place Bar (MPB) Sydney

Martin Place Bar also now offers a range of inexpensive Cellar-Aged wines from owner Peter Wynne’s personal cellar. With a collection of more than 500 Australian wines, Peter realised that he could never drink them all himself, and so he included them on the wine list.

Wynn’s 1998 Coonawarra Estate Cabernet Sauv for example, sells at MPB for $55 a bottle and $139 a bottle at Kingsley’s; and the 2000 Charles Melton Shiraz is $50 at MPB and $110 at the Bellevue Hotel Woollahra – so there’s quite a difference.

Fantastic lunch at Martin Place Bar last week. We used the online booking system through the MPB website and our meals were ready upon arrival. What great service! The chicken schnitzel was amazing, I can see how it's known as the 'biggest and best' in Sydney and the Asian duck salad was also delicious.
Definitely going back, this time for drinks and dinner after work with the girls!

I enjoy lunches at MPB. The food tends to be at standard above the regular pub fare and it changes with each season. The large pots of mussels and the prawn risotto they had during winter were yum with this season's sausages and mash something to look forward to.

A busy place for a drink with mates. You should be able to get into the club even on saturday nights - I've been able to even on my own / with male mates only.

MPB has one of the best quality bistros in town and give the nearby restaurants a run for their money. For less than $20 you can get a filling meal, especially the mussels and chips (yummy!), though the meal also needs a slice of bread to pick up the delicious white wine, coconut milk sauce.

The menu is seasonal and has everything to anyone's taste from caramelised figs to roast pork belly, pasta and burgers with good quality drinks (you can feel that double vodka running through you). Empty dishes and glasses are collected efficiently as is their service.

I work in Martin Place and have been to the MPB a lot in the past 4 years, though only with colleagues. This would not be a place that you would bring your friends for a drink. Too many times have I had unfinished drinks whisked away by uncaring staff when ones back was turned for a moment. Also, watch out for the happy hour. It runs by their time and not by EST, consequently you may find that you're paying the usual over inflated prices prematurely. It's actually hard to comprehend just how uncaring the staff at this bar are when you have a fair complaint of this nature. It's a "like it or lump it" attitude.

I went to Martin Place Bar last friday with 6 other mates. The bouncer politely explained that they were only letting couples in, so we should come back when we have some nice looking girls. Ok fair enough, so we went to do exactly that.

Three of us found girls straight away and lined up with them at the front of the queue. After having to wait for 10 mins, the bouncer (different guy) lets the girls in and tells us to get lost. Why? Because he assumed that we only picked up those girls just now and also that he didn't want to let our group of 13 guys in because it was too big.

We tried to explain to him that the other bouncer said it was ok for us to get in if we found some girls and that there were only 7 of us, not 13. I guess trying to talk logically with one of these grunts is like trying to bash your head against a brick wall. The thing is that this place is not alone, a lot of bouncers at clubs act like such a way. It really spoils what should be a good night out.

Quite busy for a thursday night, decent mezza plate and good cocktails and wine by the glass (happily not limited to red v white). Lots of suits and a pretty predictable city crowd with the requisite atmosphere that goes with it but good if you're in a group large enough to steak out an area.

Great service and quality food. The staff were great, having a chat and making sure my date wasn't alone as I hit the john. Great for people who want to have a good lunch during the day and even better for celebrations. The candles were a great addition, making the night more romantic with my date.
