When food is bad, it is bad with no sympathy from the most unfriendliest manageress. I recently had dinner there and ordered lobster and pippi. Now I have been there many times before and had the same dishes. This time the meals was not up to the same standard. I and my friends swear tho lobster was not the same one shown to us and it tasted like it has been dead for a while. It did not have the fresh taste. All three couples are regular patrons of Marigold but after the way she treated us we were definitely never going to support Marigold ever again.

I feel like I went to a different restaurant after reading some others review. Have been to Marigold on a number of occasions, and have enjoyed it every time. Just went again for boyfriend's b'day last night. The service right from the beginning was very friendly and accommodating. We especially had a very friendly waiter service our table. The food was very very good - the highlights were the crab which was a very good quality crab and cooked to perfection, and the beef with wasabi sauce was heavenly - one of the best meats I have ever had in my life and bf thought the same. I've been to many big Chinese restaurants throughout the years so I'm quite particular about my Chinese food and know when the food is really good. I do have to point out though, regarding most Chinese restaurants I have been to, the same excellent quality cannot be guaranteed every time you go back to the same restaurant - can be a hit or miss depending on factors such as how busy they are, who's on call. However, every time I have been to Marigold, it's always been a hit for me.

Taste-wise ok. I enjoyed the lobster, fish, wagyu beef and crispy fried duck, however, the noodles and rice weren't anything to marvel at. Service was haphazard and sans smiles.

This place is chaotic. We booked a table of 10 for my partners parents birthday for 11am on Sunday morning. Upon entering Level 5 we were very briskly sanctioned to Level 4. No problem. We then were advised at Level 4 that we should be on Level 5. Anyway, after that initial confusion we were seated in a corner table on Level 5.
The food carts come around in regular consistent intervals so you are never waiting too long to order your next dish. Despite irregular reports I found the food to be of a high quality and quite enjoyable. Plenty of variety and options on offer.
There certainly is little warmth in regards to the service of the waiters, however, this restaurant was absolutely packed to the rafters and when we left at 1pm there was quite the queue to get a table.
In terms of value, we ordered numerous dishes between the ten of us and I know for a fact many of us were feeling the pinch in terms of being content with the volume we ate. All for a price of $32 each. Pretty happy with that. Recommend providing you have some patience.

The restaurant itself is huge and decorative in ambience whilst the food can be quite edible at times pending on what you've ordered. The service is often it's downfall. So FYI - try to sit in the central area rather than off the side for more food and hopefully efficient services.

I recently went here for Yum Cha for my Birthday, and I have had mixed reviews with the Marigold over the years.
Basically in the past 10 years I have eaten here only a handful of times for Yum Cha and have had average experiences each time, but then due to hearing alot of positive reviews from friends I decided to try It again.
I thought the food was actually very good, I normally go to Zilvers or Sky Phoenix, however, Marigold was certainly up there. The bill for 8 people came to $180, which is very good considering how much food we ate. Would I go back again? Hell Ya!
We had a table for 8 for Yum Cha and the Bill came to $180, not too bad considering everyone was stuffed and they even allowed us.

I went here last Friday night for a friends birthday. They had booked the dining room out as there was a fair few of us there. The birthday boy had arranged the $48 a head banquet. This is pretty pricey I think for chinese but me and my bf both thought it was fair if there was plenty of good quality food. We were sadly mistaken.
All dishes that were brought out were thrown on the table by the waiter and were such bad quality I think most foodcourts would have fresher and tastier foods. There was one dish that they claimed was beef that I swear looked like something you would find out of a tin of dog food. I dont even think I could clasify it as beef! The prawns were boiled or something and were tough and bland and the salt and pepper squid was way to salty and chewy.
The only saving grace was the vegtables that a 2 year old could make (mixed veggies with some oyster sauce)easy! To top it all off the waiter who claimed he couldnt speak english had ordered us $220 sake when we didnt want/ask for it and threw the plates infront of you with no care and didnt even have a smile or eye contact.
Overall our contribution to the bill came to $160 bucks with 2 beers each and I had a few nibbles of veggies and some rice with one scallop on the side. I really think these people should be shut down and revamped. Absolutely appalling how they can charge so much for such poor service and food. Will never coming back here again!

Me and my friends went here about 11 am on sunday for yumcha. The food was pretty decent. Nothing special compared to other yumcha restaurant I know.
The ambience was kinda bad. The tables arrangement was so bad that I need to squeeze my chairs into the table just the get the waiters to go through frequently.
Service is a big fail! We asked for tea to a few waiters and manager looking person, but none of them responded. It takes us about 15-20 mins just to get our tea refilled.
Beware that they might overcharge you on the bills. Count how many stamps you have before asking for the final bill.
Hugely disappointed, I'll never go back here again. There are much better yumcha restaurants in Sydney CBD other that them.

We went to Marigold restaurant for a family reunion on 26/08/2011. The service was pretty bad, with waitresses continuously asking us if we were ready to order - it's understandable, as the restaurant was pretty crowded, but its fairly rude. [but the rest of the family wasn't here yet].
Getting fed up with the continuous bantering from the waitress, we ordered food consisting of lobster, fish, wagyu beef (as the most expensive dishes), and about another 5 relatively inexpensive dishes. We told the waiter that we wanted to order the rainbow trout, not the other fish that she kept insisting on -"san do" (in canto) was the fish she kept trying to make us order. The cold entree was served promptly before the rest of our family arrived.
As the rest of the family arrived about 10-15 minutes after we have ordered, it took at least another 20 minutes + for food to start arriving. The ginger and shallots lobster was terribly bland and tough, the only thing I could taste was salt. The waiter was also very rude and reluctant to help serve out the food. The wagyu beef was tougher than at most chinese restaurants, and the wasabi/mustard dip that was served with it didn't compliment it well, as compared to other chinese restaurants.
Most chinese restaurants would serve it with a creamy mustard dressing, whilst this one was just plain watery and lacked flavour. The vegetables that came later were also slightly undercooked.
Then came the fish, and you may have guessed, it was the Wrong fish, and the waitress that took our order claimed that we wanted the "san do" fish she recommended when we clearly ordered the rainbow trout. Not wanting to cause commotion, we took the fish and didn't argue.
Overall, the food was mediocre, definitely below average, usually either too salty, too bland, or slightly overcooked or undercooked. The service was terrible, the waiters and waitresses didn't even bother taking about the piled up plates of lobster shell and bones when the restaurant was already pretty empty, they were quite rude and especially that waitress who took our order.
We ordered 8 dishes in total, and the price was over $1000 dollars. With only 3 expensive dishes being the lobster, beef and the fish, we suspect that they overcharged us, but as not wanted to ruin the family reunion we checked over the bill and paid.
If this was not a family reunion, I would have definitely made a huge complaint, but just a warning, food and service here definitely does not match up to the price of the food.

Went to Marigold on a Sunday at 12 for yum cha. This place was a joke. The food was very average and served cold. Service was an absolute nightmare and the staff are so rude. There wasn't much of a variety available or the staff just kept missing us. Will never come here again. Our whole table of 10 were very disappointed.
