Best view for a restaurant in Manly. The food was good when I went.

We went here and really enjoyed the mid week lunch special. Very impressive, so I was very surprised to read the negative reviews below. (Wheelchair facilities are excellent).

After reading the below reviews I was very tempted to cancel our booking. I had dined at MP 3 times previously and had enjoyed, but the last time was in December 2010. So I went there with my party of 6 with low expectations after reading the more recent reviews. To cut a long story short, the food was nice, but not great.
The service was nice, but not great. The ambience was great. I had the pork which was as I said before, nice but not great. The service was ok, not as bad as the below reviews suggest so I'm guessing they are trying to fix the problems they clearly have recently had at MP. I had the blackberry dessert which do not look appetising but luckily tasted pretty good. One of my party had the chocolate dessert which tasted lovely. So, we are happy we didn't cancel but MP failed to live up to our previous experiences at MP. Hopefully they will rectify this Asap.

Unfortunately, there is no 0 as an option to rate my lunch at Manly Pavilion restaurant. I cannot say a single positive thing about the place. This is sad because I really loved my previous dining experiences at this restaurant earlier last year. As a regular diner at Sydneys top restaurants, I can definitely say this restaurant should Not have a hat. Not sure what has happened to the place but it is as if there is completely different management, chef and serving staff.
What a shame to have destroyed such a winning restaurant. The menu choice presented a limited range of dishes and even then, the kitchen had run out of 2 of the main dishes offered. The dishes consisted of strange and inedible combinations of flavours. Not creative and special but just an attempt to distract from the over cooked, poorly presented meal.
Unfortunately, the distraction of poor quality food did not distract us enough from the total absence of waiters and drinks. Eventually I had to enquire with the front desk if we even had a waiter allocated to our table. To conclude the bad experience of our meal we were surprised to be handed such an over priced bill. We love to indulge in Sydneys finest restaurants and pay top dollar for great food, service and experience.
Manly Pavilion needs to make some drastic changes all round to justify their price and keep their hat.
Response from Management:
Dear Davina D,
We take any comments very seriously and use any constructive criticism to improve regularly.
We are now settling after an overhaul of staff and drastic changes are in progress to keep the standards that awarded us the Chefs Hat in the first instance.

Manly Pavilion

Situated right on the waterside in Manly this restaurant has probably the best location in Manly, so if you're going just for the view it's a winner but best to go when there's still some light. However, if like me you love your food and good service then think twice!
The food is not cheap but is pretty average and the service we encountered on our recent visit was abysmal to say the least. I don't know what they're doing but it certainly isn't going to steer them well if they carry on like this. Shame because it has real potential. One positive though was the Sommelier, he's 7ft 2 and did try to salvage the poor service and was a nice bloke! The Manly Pavilion need to pick their game up.

What a disappointment! We went to the Pavilion for my birthday with 10 friends and I was so embarrassed from making them go there and the experience completely ruined my birthday dinner.
We sat down at 8pm and 45 minutes later I had to go and complain that we were still without even a glass of wine. I also had to ask again for bread and to order food. We spent so low debating what to eat, then by the time the waiter finally came over, we were finally given an explanation of the menu, which is extremely confusing. They had run out of 2 of the 3 shared dishes, which we had planned to have. Therefore, we had to have something we didn't particularly want, the lamb. We ordered 2 of the shared lamb dishes.
Throughout the evening we had to refill our own wine glasses, remind the waiters constantly for water. When one of the party asked for wine, the waiter opened a new bottle, rather than using the one already open. We had to ask for bread, then ask for oil to go with the bread.
The main dinners finally arrived 1hr 45 minutes after we sat down. Initially they gave us the wrong dish, then when the 2 lamb dishes did arrive, one was significantly bigger than the other. They said it was because half the table had ordered leg, not shoulder. I said we were not given that choice and the waiter said they had run out anyway!
The lamb was then served, but we had to ask for additional plates, so the waiter left the lamb on some of the guests plates, going cold, to get the rest of the plates. We had to remind them of the side dishes and had to wait for them arrive, again, with the lamb going cold. The side dishes consisted of some lettuce a few potatoes! What a joke!
The lamb was delicious and we had no complaints about the taste and quality of the food. When we received the bill, they had wrongly charged us for additional side dishes - $10-12 for lettuce leaves. We hadn't ordered additional sides, but some had turned up, after we had finished the lamb!
We complained to the Management at the end of the meal and he proceeded to argue every point we raised, not offering an apology for an extremely disappointing evening and shockingly bad service. He finally agreed to take a token amount off the bill.
We will certainly not be going back, or recommending it to anyone in Sydney.

Special occasion evening meal. Good entrees and then had the main salt encrusted snapper ($85). It was so salty as to be inedible. Waitress was embarrassed. To compensate offered us desserts on the house. The banana caramel mush was inedible. Charged us full price for the inedible main. Complete disappointment.

I took a guest from overseas to Manly Pavilion in late January and was extremely disappointed with the food. We had the high tea and were not given the selection that they were advertising.
The food we were served was of a very poor quality, consistency and variety and was not even close to the quality that we had experienced at Manly Pavilion previously. Of course the view and the fit out are still stunning. But I certainly won’t be returning until I hear that there have been some vast improvements in the food.
I note on this website that “The Management” has responded to comments left by customers by suggesting they email them. This was a shock to me because I did email the management after my poor experience and they did not have the courtesy to reply or even acknowledge my email.

Manly Pavilion was a complete disappointment. I purchased a $250.00 voucher as a gift for dinner at this restaurant. I believed that this would be a lovely gift and a stunning night of great food and service in such a gorgeous location. To my disappointment it was the worst gift I have ever wasted my money on.
My daughter and her husband told me of their experience of the dinner that I had purchased for her birthday. I was mortified to hear that they had been treated so poorly. In short they said that the food was terrible and the service was rude and very inhospitable. I am so disappointed and feel as though I have wasted my money and their time in this establishment. Shame.

I went here with my wife for my birthday. Fantastic venue overlooking the harbour and just out of the hustle and bustle of Manly.
The food was fantastic, we had the roast lamb shared special, it was mouth wateringly delicious, it had been slowcooked for 14 hours and was so tender, the waiter carved with a spoon.
We did not try dessert as we were so full, they even let us take the lamb we couldn't finish home in a goody bag. Highly recommend.
Response from Management:
Dear Jon L,
In a sea of complaints, your feedback is very much appreciated. The roast lamb is certainly one of the favorite sharing dishes on the current menu. We do hope to see you in again soon.
