Returned to this place after a number of years on the recommendation of others - unfortunately should have noticed the absence of other diners and paid heed. The service was lacking, the food was ordinary - not terrible but not better than something you might find on a supermarket shelf. There are plenty of better options on darling st.

I was fortunate enough to try Manjit's food at a function. Its hard to get one dish perfect let alone four courses for 400 people. It was some of the best food I had ever had let alone at a function so I tried the restaurant in Balmain with a group of friends.

The restaurant is centrally located in Balmain, clean and well presented. Good food is easier to find than good staff and the staff were friendly with polished service. I found the food incredible and my Indian friends found it authentic. They had a range of dishes that catered to the whole group, vegetarians, pescatorians and meat lovers all left satisfied.

The service is attentive and polite. Now as an Indian I felt the food was more suited to a western palate and not full bodied enough. The owner Varun took me into the kitchen and together we created the "Rashmi (pronounced rush-me) Special": a full bodied aromatic authentic Indian vegetable curry that met my approval. Totally Delicious! To get it you need to ask for Varun.

We dined here this weekend. I'm writing this review because I rely on them myself. The odour from the waiter left me wanting to walk out soon after we were seated, but, unfortunately, we stayed, hoping this was a minor glitch. We had the banquet. Stale papadums and poor food quality and quantity (it tasted like reheated food).

Butter Chicken, 5 tiny slivers of chicken and a tasteless sauce in a tiny plate (menu price 21.90). There is no value or quality satisfaction here, normally happy with small serving as long as it's good. We thought we couldn't go wrong here because their prices are very high, so we assumed they must be good if people are prepared to pay. Wrong!

We also had an awful lamb dish which was in a black sauce, after a small taste we left it. Almost $100 for reheated food.

Note: website notes $2.10 for corkage, they actually charge $3.5. I find only dodgy restaurants do this. Not recommended.

2 of us arrived at 8:45 on a Friday evening. Plenty of tables to choose from as it wasn't full. We had brought bottles of cider with us and the waiter said this was ok as they are both BYO and licensed.

For entree we ordered a dish of 2 rather small samosas which were very nice. For mains we had a lamb in spinach and a malai kofta plus naans and rice. The lamb was tender but I thought the sauce had a slight stock cube taste to it. I may be wrong there as it may have been spices etc. The malai kofta was very good. The naans were excellent and the rice was fine.

The toilets were clean and comfortable, always a good sign. The service was attentive and friendly. Overall a satisfying experience and we will be back.

Best indian food ever! Amazing perfect! My idea of heaven!, the food was the best I have had in the balmain area, perhaps, Sydney, will be back, great prices, great service, the matire de was great, he made what we wanted even though it was off the menu.

I can't rave enough about this restaurant! We have been here many times over several years and it is the best Indian food in the Inner West. I am amazed how how easy it usually is to get a table given the deliciously spiced food and impeccable service. Tasteful decor, reasonably priced and consistently excellent.

We dine out frequently and always return to Manjits, even the kids love it. I promise that I have no connection whatsoever to this restaurant or any staff, it is simply great, but often pretty quiet and I hope more people will visit so it stays around for years to come.

Lovely flavour to their dishes - definitely not washed out or weak in intensity. Good attentive service and overall a good venue.

After coming from the UK, Manjit's the best indian I have found, good value, great service, the karma sutra paintings always spark up an interesting conversation, and very reasonably priced.

Worst curry restaurant on the strip. Have nothing against the restaurant, fairly ok atmosphere, service was good. The food was just very very average. Not much better than the cheapo takeaway a few doors down.
