This lovely Italian restaurant in Kingsford provides a delicious alternative to the numerous Asian restaurants nearby. The service is brilliant and friendly. The waiters and waitresses are lovely people who are often smiling and willing to help out with any queries. People who want 5 star posh waiters should eat at a 5 star hotel, the service here is about friendliness and efficiency and not simply speedy delivery of food.
Food is delicious and very good prices, seafood (as in all restaurants) is a little more expensive, but definitely worth it! The mussels, oysters and fish are divine, pizza is yummy and pasta is delicious! Ambience is lovely with a beautiful murial on the wall. Yes service is slower on busy nights, think about it....if there are more people and therefore more food to produce it is not going to be cooked in the same time as it would if you were the only couple there. People wanting that kind of speed and who are too impatient to wait for food (and god forbid...talk to the people they came with to dine) should go to MacDonald down the road.
Mamma Teresa is a beautiful restaurant suitable for families, dates and group gatherings. A lovely night for all.
I don't know what it is with Sydney Italian/pizza restaurants but they continually get away with charging too much and serving too little of what is really fairly ordinary fare. Unfortunately, Mamma Teresa's is no exception.
I first found this place way back in the 1980's where we'd go after watching the Sydney Swans go around who, incidentally, would often join us there! Back then it was great value and the family who owned and ran it made the best profiteroles I've ever tasted.
But alas, much has changed, including the owners, more than once I suspect. After reading the more positive recent reviews here I decided to give it a try last night with seven other folks including three minors.
The food was ok, nothing special at all. The sizes were small, for example the $22 large calamari had 14 rings!, and were overpriced by at least 25%. The rennos had expanded the place considerably. It was ok but nothing special. However, the painting on the wall at the end of the enclave in which we were sat was an excellent depiction of Portofino, Italy. Frankly, apart from the company, it was the highlight of the evening. The service was, indeed, serviceable.
Overall, with the small servings and inflated prices I can only give a value rating of 6. Mamma Teresa has potential, as observed elsewhere in the recent reviews. However, I will not revisit it in the foreseeable future until those two major shortfalls are addressed.
BTW, two of our party ordered the cannelloni, which were indeed rolled up crepes. They didn't mind so much as they saw it as a slightly different approach. However, I maintain that it shouldn't be offered as cannelloni as it is clearly not the cannelloni that people expect!
Didn't think food was as good as before the renovation. Matt Moran was meant to fix it up on the Channel 9 series, although I can't see any positive changes. My brother had the gnocchi pesto and wasn't pleased, and I certainly wasn't either, especially after the beef cannelloni that wasn't made with pasta, instead a crepe, and the beef was so fine it almost had the texture and taste of tuna from a can! The only good dish I tasted was the garlic prawns, another member of the family had, these were their classic prawns. Again, nothing very different except for the quality of food.
Been coming for many years and now they have renovated and it has a new feel. Food needs more care with presentation but improving. Quick service, very nice restaurant.
Arrived an hour and a half before closing time and felt like they couldn't kick us out fast enough. Lasagne was too sweet. Average prices. Nice Italian feel to the restaurant.
This place gives new meaning to the term "family restaurant". Dining there on a Sunday night, we found ourselves in the company of a few large family groups with raucous kids in tow. (I always wonder why anyone would want to schlep little tots along to a restaurant. Not only does it spoil the dining experience for the parents, but it just about ruins it for all the other guests in the place as well. As for the tots - they'd much rather be at home in bed.)
Anyway, if you can get past that - hopefully you'll dine on a night when there aren't too many kids around - this is a well established and professionally run restaurant. I'd say that it's been in this same spot for a long time, as I recall dining here many years ago.
The service is friendly and efficient. Orders are taken quickly, there's no long wait for the food and any other requests are handled promptly and politely. The fare, whilst standard Italian, is tasty, fresh and nicely presented. Portions all come in decent sizes. We started off with herb bread (four slices to a serve) and a large garden salad. For mains I had the cannelloni with spinach and ricotta and my partner had the spaghetti marinara. No complaints. We finished off with coffees, and all that, came to the princely sum of $50.
The interior décor is fairly bland Italian-style, circa 1980 or so, with red and white checked tablecloths, reddish walls, a few faded pics of Mother Italy and some rather nondescript sports memorabilia. But it's a nice homely atmosphere and the carpets (tho' probably in need of replacement) keep the noise to bearable levels.
Mamma Teresa is located on busy Anzac Parade next to the Regency Hotel. Forget about parking on Anzac Pde - we found easy parking in Middle Street, only a five-minute walk away.
Mamma Teresa is one of my favourite Italian restaurant. It's around my area too so it comes handy when I feel like having some Italian food. I like their spaghetti carbonara and tortellini basciola the most. Pizza was alright. Service and ambience was Ok and overall it's recommended!
Mamma's was a good place to have a quick bite before heading to a concert at UNSW. I've been there before. Considering the size and amount of people in the place, it wasn't as noisy as you would expect. I had garlic bread and pizza. The garlic bread was ok, pizza was alright. I won't lie and say it was "Great!". However, if you want a decent meal, good service and to be able to hear the people you are having dinner with, Mamma's is the place to go.
