My pet hate at the moment. The 'cash grab'. I'm experiencing it more and more these days and if a restaurant dares inflict their financial woes on my dining experience, watch out! You know who you are and I will be targeting you!
Visited Mamak Village tonight from a recommendation. Hmmm.
I order a chicken curry style dish and received... 1 drum stick, rice and an assortment of silly garnishes. Yes, one drum stick, meaning 1 chicken leg! For the price of $14.
When I complained? I was told that since I got the 'garnish' it meant that I would only receive 1 chicken leg.
Come on! Spare me your global financial crisis. Cash grab. No wonder it was empty on a Friday night.
Instead of giving me an extra chicken leg they lost both a custom for eternity and got a scathing review. The food was old and average anyway and not worth the bother.
I'm over these rip offs as there are genuine people out there trying to offer a wonderful dining experience and care about their customers. So the moral of this story? Avoid this den of cash grab rip off at all cost. Go somewhere else where you and your money will actually be appreciated.

We have eaten here twice now - the first time with a group on a Saturday night which meant we got to try most things on the menu - in particular the Otak Otak (fish in banana leaf) which was scrumptious. The main thing on the menu is chicken in its various forms - one beef dish - and prawns only in noodle dishes. Having said that the Pandan chicken ( skewers cooked in banana leaf) were exceptional and the Kampong nasi goreng excellent value as it comes with a huge chunk of crisp chicken. The Capitan chicken curry was also good but the most disappointing dish was the char keoy teow which wasn't spicy enough. The roti was terrific and the service friendly and efficient. We made the trek over from the northern beaches and thought it worthwhile.

Mamak Village has a limited menu featuring only a handful of Malaysian street eats so don’t expect wow factor. Do expect food that would be cooked just like it would be on a Malaysian street corner which is the whole point of the place and why Glebe denizens cram the joint.

Went here for dinner last week for a malaysian fix (after spending 30 minutes driving around the city to find somewhere that was open and where you didn't have to wait 30 minutes in line).
Food was good, kway teow (or, however, you spell it) was nice, not the best I've had but had a great charred flavour. The chicken curry was tasty but need more of that tasty sauce, roti canai (freshly made yum!) and teh tarik was excellent! I will have to come back here to try the fried chicken and satay to really compare it to Mamak, but I think its definitely worth a try, a plus is you don't have to line up for it either.

If you're looking for some good roti, then just head on back in the queue at Mamak. There is nothing special about this place and certainly no comparison to its similarly named kinsman. The food was average (roti was limp, even), the service was absentminded at best and the restaurant space was lacking any appeal, best way to describe it is that it seems rather impromptu with computer desks as tables.
We recommend the noodle dishes over most of the others, but be warned because they are all quite similar to each other as our neighbours found out. Only worth the trip if you're local and looking for a feed.

Some hit and miss. Roti canai was okay but the curries were watery and the sambal came in a tiny portion. The beef rendang had too much of a certain spice which over-powered the whole dish and was quite salty. The satay, lobak, fried chicken and roti pisang dessert was quite good. But there's no justification or excuse for charging more for dinner if the portions are the same : expect to pay upwards of $1 to $3 more per dish, just for dinner, compared to lunch. I'm glad there'll be one less person in the queue to the real "Mamak" as I won't be returning to Mamak Village in a hurry.

First Review! And we have a new king of Malaysian Cuisine in Sydney! Forget, Mamak in the city, forget Jackie M, forget them all, this is it! Fried chicken was to die for, chicken satay was great, roti canai was freshly made, (just like in mamak) not the frozen ones you get in most places, beautiful roti, teh tarik was perfect.
I've tried every Malaysian place in Sydney and alot on KL itself and this place is great! Go there right now! One hint: the lunch prices are a bit less expensive than their dinner prices.
