Hair in food! This is the first time I have ordered from malabar, the delivery guy would not bring the food to my apartment door but made me come down and collect it from him at the car on the street! The food was actually very tasty until I found a large hair in my soup! Disgusting!

We popped in for lunch last Sunday and having not been here for years, we had a great time. It was very quiet as you would expect for a January Sunday lunch ie: South Indian cuisine doesn't easily come to mind on a lovely Sydney Sunday.
The food was all great, the lady providing the service (from memory she was the host/waitperson last time) excellent and the photographs from a century ago (in India) kept us chatting for the whole lunch. Our favourite scene was the enormous wedding photograph, complete with elephant dressed to the nines, it covered an entire wall.
Malabar promotes itself as the Dosai Palace and we had not ordered it before, stoopid us, extra-ordinarily tasty. It all was.
The ambience was marked down due to it being a very quiet service period. Short of having an elephant perform or a band going through, not much to be done there.

Malabar is one of my fave restaurants in Sydney - great ambience (not common for Indian restaurants in my experience) lovely food and service and really reasonable prices. Perfect for a mid-week date. Can't get enough Mysore chilli chops!

Food was lovely, but very overpriced for the portion sizes. Service was good.

Malabar is a friendly restaurant with efficient service. The food is excellent and the quality is very good. There is a variety of dishes to suit the fussiest of palates and a good wine list to complement. If you are looking for a decent curry joint then this is the one! You will return again and again. Guaranteed.

Better than the one in Crows Nest, but still unremarkable. Unbalanced flavours mean this place falls short of what others in Sydney are doing with the concept of "contemporary Indian".

Very nice food and as a solo diner made to feel very welcome. Not sure what happened with the rice issue, it is only 2.50 on the menu, quite reasonable really. The Chicken dumplings were a nice change, and the Makhani Dal was very yummy. I will be back.

One of the nicest Indian meals I’ve had in a long time. The Goan Fish Curry is spectacular. The Butter Chicken was not quite as good, but still way above average. The Masala Dosa for starter was enjoyable, they have quite a range of dossai which is a nice change. Rice is expensive as noted below, so just get one serving between two people. Loved the ambience of the restaurant, the photos on the wall are wonderful. Service was solid – friendly and genuine. Look forward to going back soon!

Malabar is a great Indian dining experience in the inner east. The food is very authentic southern Indian cuisine and there is a great selection on offer. The Dosas for an entree are a must!
The service is excellent, the owner, Mohammed always takes time to come to your table to say hi and ensure everything is going well.
I highly recommend Malabar whether you're dining out with a partner, or for larger group occasions.
