Relaxed, dependable and always open, nothing overly fancy, and its cramped, but you go there to have a regular meal which is always a good sized serve and to catch up with friends. Open 24 hours and serving a big breakfast all night makes it a favourite after a big night out.
For a 24 hour cafe you can't complain about Maisy's! The menu seems to cater for (almost) whatever type of food you're in the mood for. The staff are nice and friendly and overall, I think it's a pretty decent place.
For a 24 hr cafe, its quite convenient, especially if you've been out late and are experiencing some late-night hunger pangs, but even then the prices are exorbitant in relation to the quality and serving size of the food, which is sad to say, quite bad. I had some toast with preserves. What arrived was two barely-toasted slices of wholemeal bread, with some jam.
When I asked the waitress whether I could have some water, she odd-handedly told me, 'it's self serve downstairs!'. To be fair, on the plus side, the coffee is quite good and the layout and decor is quite nice, just make sure you get a seat upstairs or outside otherwise you'll be crowded into the downstairs area.
I visit Maisy's quite regularly and I find that it is one of the better cafe's that open late night. The food is quite good and it is a quiet place to chat with friends. The price is a little expensive but it is expected since it is a 24 hours cafe. The staff are nice and friendly, and I would definitely recommend it to people who live in the area that want a late meal.
Now I don't mind paying the price for a good meal, but this really isn't worth it. The wait between ordering and being served is huge and happens EVERY time. You would think the prices they charge, they could afford a few more staff. Won't be going back.
I like Maisy's purely because it is open 24 hr. The food is okay, nothing to rave about and a little bit of a rip off. It's a good place for a late night coffee, but go outside or upstairs because downstairs (the mirrors!) freaks me out and makes me uncomfortable.
Maisy's is a complete rip-off. The food is pathetic and overpriced. I ordered the "thick cut toast with a selection of preserves". I received two miniscule slices of wholemeal bread and some strawberry jam in a plastic sachet. Together with a coffee, this mysteriously totalled almost $9! Apparently there is a 10% surcharge on a Saturday.
When I baulked at the price, the waiter told me I should have read the menu properly. Overpriced AND rude! I will never go back.
Don't know if they still do it but the warm chocolate mud cake with ice cream is worth travelling for. Other food is what you should expect from a late night joint, really, it's there or a kebab. Dessert highly recommended.
The coffee is overpriced, especially for the quality, which is not great. The food's not fantastic either, but if you're there at four in the morning I suppose it does the job. The staff are generally quite rude, and it's always freezing cold inside, for some odd reason.
My husband and I usually come to Maisys when we're craving for some cafe food at 11.30pm. The prices are pretty steep for the amount of food served and there aren't many dishes on the menu. The place also gets to be crowded very easily so I would discourage any groups with 4 or more people - they usually have to wait outside in a line. If there is one thing to recommend, it would be the desserts and the coffee. But as mentioned, pretty steep prices - for a mudcake and 2 coffees, it cost us a little over $20. The service is ok, not overly friendly but helpful enough. If anyone knows of any other 24 hour cafes around, let me know!
