Great place for lunch. A group of us returned after experiencing this wonderful cafe on a Food Safari. We ordered the multi dip plate, excellent, variety and fabulous flavours. We selected 3 mains to share. Two chicken and one meatball and all were great. The cafe was busy so service was a bit slow but friendly.
Definitely return.
New management since May 2010. The 2 brothers have really stepped things up, with snappy service, cleanliness and new dishes such as char shish kebab, pide and gozleme. Now very busy on weekends which shows how things are getting better. Desserts and turkish tea is as before, excellent with some new baklavas. They are also planning to fly some authentic turkish-made stuff in too.
We hadn't been to Mado in ages. Usually just get take-away desserts and icecream, though went on a Monday night for dad's birthday. The food was actually quite shocking! I remember going years ago and the Maras Kebab was beautiful. We ordered it this time and recommended it to my dad, though I wish I hadn't! It has since been changed from diced lamb pieces to pieces of kofte and the turkish pide bits at the bottom are hard rock croutons!
My husband ordered the Guvec and there was about 5 pieces of meat, the rest was all eggplant! It didn't even seem like Guvec, more like a re-heated casserole dish. It was so disappointing and I felt extremely bad being my dad's birthday and all. However, they still have the best baklava and ice-cream. We didn't even stay there for the dessert, we took it home! From now on, I will just stick to dessert from this place.
I'm turkish and as an expert I can say without a doubt that I had the worst turkish coffee in my life here. I mentioned this to the waitress and she replied "I didn't make it!?" Definitely not the best place to try out turkish coffee and food. But desserts are still above the Sydney average.
I went to Mado a couple of times and if I was every asked to explain it in one word it would be dynamite! It is rich in the Turkish culture and as a person that has been around Turkey, I felt as if I was back there. Food and service is 10/10. They greet you with a smile on their faces and will take care of you all night. I have also seen the Belly Dancer that comes every Saturday and Sunday night. It added a great fun to our night. I advise you to go there and have the best Turkish food in Australia.
The food is OK the service is terrible. I've eaten there many times and I would advise patrons to check the bill before paying it. The waiters do have a habit of mixing tables, therefore, bills. Icecreams are great!
We'd been wanting to try Mado for ages after reading about it in several foodie blogs. Four of us went for a birthday late Sunday lunch and loved the food and the timbered interior covered in authentic Turkish bits and pieces (like a print of a chained, dancing bear behind our table, well I did say it's authentic!).
We ordered a variety of dishes to share, and got through a mixed dip plate, mixed grill plate, mixed veg dish, and Maras kebab. The mixed plates were smaller than expected, however, we had room for 4 desserts so all was good!
I highly recommend the Maras kebab. It comprises a good sized bowl of crispy toasted bits of turkish bread, spicy minty bits of lamb kebab, and all covered in lashings of yoghurt and chopped fresh mint. It is such an unusual dish, but everyone loved it and the 63 year old meat-and-3-veg lovin' guest of honour fought the rest of us for the last of that dish!
The deserts were great, the maras icecream eaten with knife and fork, the maras cup with 3 scoops of delicious stretchy icecream and frozen grapes and the charred rice dish, can't recall it's name, it's not the rice pudding, it's another one, says something about charred I think. All were unusual and delicious.
Service was variable, generally good from some waitstaff and poor from others. We were expecting that so just jumped up and went to the counter if we were having trouble getting attention. Along with a drink or 2 each, and turkish teas to finish, we paid $150 for this feast for 4 people. Can't wait to return!
I found their mixed plate slightly smaller than I expected but you go here to try the thick Turkish ice cream, where they claim it's the only ice cream that you use a knife and fork for!! This would be the main reason to come to this restaurant. It's something different to try and you can go pass the waiters who got funky moustaches. If I lived closer, I would come for the Turkish ice cream every day.
Mado Cafe is great. Haven't had real Turkish food since holidaying in Turkey. The service was great. Very helpful and happy. Family friendly venue, good atmosphere. Great to go for a full meal or just dessert.
