I went to Mado a couple of times and if I was every asked to explain it in one word it would be dynamite! It is rich in the Turkish culture and as a person that has been around Turkey, I felt as if I was back there. Food and service is 10/10. They greet you with a smile on their faces and will take care of you all night. I have also seen the Belly Dancer that comes every Saturday and Sunday night. It added a great fun to our night. I advise you to go there and have the best Turkish food in Australia.
The food is OK the service is terrible. I've eaten there many times and I would advise patrons to check the bill before paying it. The waiters do have a habit of mixing tables, therefore, bills. Icecreams are great!
We'd been wanting to try Mado for ages after reading about it in several foodie blogs. Four of us went for a birthday late Sunday lunch and loved the food and the timbered interior covered in authentic Turkish bits and pieces (like a print of a chained, dancing bear behind our table, well I did say it's authentic!).
We ordered a variety of dishes to share, and got through a mixed dip plate, mixed grill plate, mixed veg dish, and Maras kebab. The mixed plates were smaller than expected, however, we had room for 4 desserts so all was good!
I highly recommend the Maras kebab. It comprises a good sized bowl of crispy toasted bits of turkish bread, spicy minty bits of lamb kebab, and all covered in lashings of yoghurt and chopped fresh mint. It is such an unusual dish, but everyone loved it and the 63 year old meat-and-3-veg lovin' guest of honour fought the rest of us for the last of that dish!
The deserts were great, the maras icecream eaten with knife and fork, the maras cup with 3 scoops of delicious stretchy icecream and frozen grapes and the charred rice dish, can't recall it's name, it's not the rice pudding, it's another one, says something about charred I think. All were unusual and delicious.
Service was variable, generally good from some waitstaff and poor from others. We were expecting that so just jumped up and went to the counter if we were having trouble getting attention. Along with a drink or 2 each, and turkish teas to finish, we paid $150 for this feast for 4 people. Can't wait to return!
I found their mixed plate slightly smaller than I expected but you go here to try the thick Turkish ice cream, where they claim it's the only ice cream that you use a knife and fork for!! This would be the main reason to come to this restaurant. It's something different to try and you can go pass the waiters who got funky moustaches. If I lived closer, I would come for the Turkish ice cream every day.
Mado Cafe is great. Haven't had real Turkish food since holidaying in Turkey. The service was great. Very helpful and happy. Family friendly venue, good atmosphere. Great to go for a full meal or just dessert.
I've eaten here a couple of times and have to agree the service leaves a bit to be desired. But haven't been all that impressed with the food either, it's OK but not great.
I have been to Mado many times. The service definitely has its good and bad days, but overall the staff are friendly. They have some nice soups, the Turkish bread served with meals is always fresh and very nice. My favourite dish is the 'guvech' which is lamb and vegetables cooked in a clay pot, it has a delicious smoky flavour, but it is popular and they do sell out of this dish.
I have ordered meals here and what has been presented has been very different to what was described in the menu. But I have never had a bad meal here and the so-so service and lack of fidelity to menu descriptions sort of adds to the authentic Turkish feeling of the place.
The Turkish ice-creams are made on the premises and are fantastic. This restaurant is situated in Auburn, probably one of the most ethnically and culturally diverse parts of Sydney. On a busy night Mado is crowded with people wearing all sorts of traditional dress and speaking a wide variety of languages. Combine this with the Turkish artifacts and decor and it has a very good atmosphere.
I came here for desserts and coffee with turkish friends not long ago. We basically seated ourselves, had to ask for menus (waiter was nice but had very poor english). My dessert choice was unavailabe. So I just had an apple tea and shared a baked rice custard which was ok.
The Turkish food is fantastic and authentic! It's full of flavour but not spicy at all. The ichli kofti and chicken were fabulous and this restaurant has become a favourite!
It's a family business with excellent value for money. The walls are covered with family artifacts and photos which create a wonderful atmosphere. There is also outdoor seating which is lovely when the weather is nice. The home made ice cream is a must!!
