We just tried this last month (October 2011), as we were looking for a restaurant to take my Portuguese parents visiting from overseas.
The food was absolutely beautiful and authentic Portuguese, even the green soup was like the one my mum always made! They have little bowls of olives on the table for you and bread rolls, and butter, just like restaurants in Portugal.
The staff was really friendly and accommodating and our waiter was very funny!
The amount of food you get, for the price, was not bad at all, the portions are Huge and so you need to be careful not to order too much, as we did! The Espetada is almost a kg of meat and was beautiful for sharing between two people.
My sister and I had the "Bife a casa" and it was absolutely delicious meat and fantastic home made french fries, with the traditional egg on top! There is a range to pick from including fish, seafood, meat dishes and some rice dishes.
We were too full for desserts, but I'm saving room for next time we go. We have already booked in for next time and are so excited to go! Thanks Madeira Grill. I highly recommend this restaurant for Everyone!

I enjoyed eating at this restaurant. Very tasty food and generous portion, worth what you pay for. I would go there again and would highly recommend it. Seafood was lovely and the pork was nice. We took a doggy bag as we couldn't finish our main. I would skip the entree next time as the main was enough.
The service was good and helpful and took his time to explain the dishes, being a first timer. I would recommend to book if you are going to dine there in the weekend, as it get quite busy. We were lucky we went there early on a saturday night. Other diners had to wait for a table. Lovely for a family meal.

By far the best portuguese resturant in petersham (now O'Pescador closed). The restaurant itself is very simple but the food is authentic, plentiful and tasty, (I recommend the Veal Skewers & pork Aletejana). I can't beleive people have complained about the service, I thought the staff were lovely (Julio's a character) and we never wait long there even though it gets quite busy (I've been there several times and it's always fine).

Overall I've got to say that this place represents good value with food that, whilst not setting the world on fire, does what it sets out to and that is tasty and fresh. My only criticism is that the calamari could have been obtained via any supermarket frozen food section. I do miss O'Pescador in Petersham and if anyone knows where they have re-opened please don't keep it a secret.

The atmosphere is a little stark for my liking, however, the wait staff are friendly and helpful. The food was nice, portions huge but very pedestrian in flavours when compared to some of the other restaurants close by. My wife and I were expecting a little more as this place had been recommended to us, we probably won't be back.

Overall an atrocious effort, very slow, with poor service and average food. It took them 30 minutes to take our order (it wasn't that busy because about a third of the restaurant was still vacant), then another 1.5 hours before the food came out. They got one of our dishes completely wrong, and to add insult to injury, instead of apologising, the restaurant owner tried to bully us into eating something that we didn't order.
The one meal they did get correct was undercooked in spite of us asking for the veal to be well done. After we decided to share that one meal instead because we refused to wait another hour and a half, they didn't even bring out an extra plate and steak knife to allow us to share in spite of a polite reminder. A big thumbs down.

Why does everyone pack into the other restaurants on the strip and this one is empty? Great food and there's plenty of space.

Madeira Grill is sort of like a modern Portuguese eatery which specialises in all traditional meals from seafood to roasts and great meat cuts. Abundant in space with alfresco seating Madeira grill often hosts many parties and functions. The menu is rich as it offers some dishes the other local restaurants don't and the service is fine and not invasive. The spit roast pig is a must for any function

I've been here a few times and have had the Espetada all the times I have visited. It has to be the best Espetada I have ever tried. The restaurant is nothing fancy, more like a family style restaurant but there is nothing wrong with that. The waiters are friendly and polite. I thought $23 for the Espetada served with fried polenta/garlic bread and salad was very cheap as you need two people to share that (unless it was two guys might consider getting one each).

The Madeira Grill is one above all the other mediocre Portuguese restaurants in Petersham. The food is good, plentiful and very tasty. I recommend the Aletejana, Portuguese steak or Bife de Paris. The garlic prawns are to die for as is the very rich and indulgent chocolate mousse or rice pudding. Service is good, attentive with a cheeky smile.
