Overview of LYNN Shanghai Cuisine

Anthony Bourdain once said the dumplings at Din Tai Fung were the best in the world - we think ours are better!

Owners of LYNN, Dennis Chair and Teresa Tea have traveled the globe in search of perfect Shanghai cuisine. Fortunately for Sydney they have brought all their favourite dishes to Lynn at an affordable price.

The menu has been carefully put together to bring you an amazing selection of dishes including the famed and handmade pork dumplings, a selection of handmade noodle dishes, drunken chicken and the next BIG thing in Sydney - baked sesame pockets with sautéed minced chicken, preserved vegetables & pine nuts. These sesame pockets can be best described as a taco from the east that you eat in the west!

Lynn is conveniently located in the heart of Sydney’s CBD on the ground floor of The Castlereagh Club which is on Castlereagh Street between Park and Bathurst Streets. The restaurant is only three minutes walk from Town Hall Station.

BOOK ONLINE NOW at www.lynnshanghaicuisine.com.au, beat the queues and check out the restaurant all of Sydney is talking about!

Visited this restaurant tonight with two other friends, it was such a memorable experience. The service was wonderful, greeted by smiling staff and all were so friendly.

The food is just amazing, so fresh, not greasy, clean tastes and full of taste. This was one of the best dining experiences I've had in years and will be back many times soon.

This place is definitely one to return to, we found the food cooked to perfection and plenty of it. We had a wonderful evening courtesy of the wait staff who are very courteous and knowledgeable with all aspects of the dining experience. This place has a wonderful view to with the great food but could do some nice soft music to compliment the surroundings. All in all a great evening was had and can't wait to go back.

Arrived at 11.30 am for the earlybird. We ordered from the specials menu. At no time were we advised that the Specials did not qualify for the 20% discount nor does the website say this.

One of our party of 3 then changed their mind (before the order was taken to the kitchen) and decided to go for 2 individual dumpling dishes instead of the special. When the drink (part of the special) arrived we figured that the waitress may have misunderstood the change of order. We asked that she cancel the special order but she advised that it had already been cooked.

Being nice, we accepted their mistake meant we'd be paying more (even though this was not our issue). We ate the food, it was good and asked for the desserts (part of special) and the bill at 12.05pm so we could pay and be on our way.

They brought the desserts but failed to bring the bill. We had to remind them, and by the time it came, it was past 12.15pm. It did not have the discount, which they Now said the specials were not part of, we called the senior staff. We explained that we were there at 11.30am, the order was taken incorrectly and not advised that the specials were not part of the 20% discount. And Now they're telling us that because we hadn't left the building before 12.15pm nothing at all qualified for the discount.

We thought at least they'd give us the discount considering it wasn't our problem they'd screwed up the order - but no. The Manager also said that if we didn't want the special we shouldn't have taken it. We explained we tried to do so but that was not given as an option, it was just 'it's been cooked already so you have to take it'.

There wasn't even any offer of discount for their two stuff ups, the order And the failure to advise the special wasn't part of the discount. Poor service. Poor communication. Be very careful when you want the specials or the earlybird and if anything is wrong, don't expect them to make any attempt to make it right.

We celebrated Easter Sunday here as a group of 10. We could not fault this place. The waiters were attentive and polite and provided excellent service with a smile. Teresa came to check that we were happy with everything and wished us a happy Easter.

Our food came out promptly and our water glasses were always filled. Being long weekend the place only had a few big groups but I think their service would be great regardless.

The food was delicious! All their dumplings were perfect and fresh with the soup inside them. Also try their pan fried pork buns! The shrimp and pork wonton in spicy sauce with noodles were also a big hit. The only thing we wouldn't order again is the fried rice as there are more delicious things on their menu to try.

Don't miss giving this place a go, we'll definitely be back!

This place can not be described by any words! Amazing, brilliant whatever you say it purely exceeds expectations.

We came in here on a Friday night. Now from the moment you walk in you see the quality and the cleanliness and it truly made for a great to start.

As for the food. We took the waiters recommendation on the 12 course Silver Banquet Menu at $33.90 per person which they design for you, so everything is a surprise and everyone get to eat at the same time. Every dish was above and beyond great. Lots of twists and turns on modern Shanghai flavours and high quality ingredients. Our favourites were probably the steamed crab crab& pork dumplings, pan fried buns, shredded beef served with pan cakes, Cong Bao King Prawns, Sesame Pockets.

The service was amazing. It was very 5 star, but not in your face and over the top, much more of a true relaxed dining.

Overall this is one dining experience that was worth every penny.

We have been to many restaurants around Sydney and it’s great to say that this was our greatest! If you are in Sydney and love your food LYNN is a must!

Went here for lunch with several friends. Extremely busy but service was always excellent! I have been to LYNN a handful of times and the food here is authentic and superb with excellent service.

What a local gem! I took my partner there for his birthday (Thursday night) with some family members and what a wonderful Shanghai experience we had. The restaurant is intimate, and perfect on a cold winter night. The dinner menu is exceptional value and the food was sensational. One of the best duck dish, pan fried prawn and chives pancakes, shredded beef served with pancakes, eight treasures, sesame pockets and Cong Bao Prawns I've ever eaten.

The service was excellent with the chef happily accommodating my partner's healthy meat appetite by substituting one of the mains from the Banquet Menu to our $25.90 (12 courses) dinner menu. Loved it, will certainly go back.

Dined here on the Sunday 25/03/12. From the moment we walked into LYNN it was magical, we were seated in front of the open kitchen a requested and it was amazing!

After 10 years of going to some of the best restaurants in Sydney, I decided to go with my hunsband for our 5th wedding anniversary. As we walked in, attention to detail was amazing. A line of staff greeted us and made us feel welcome. The 5 course menu was stunning, food portions generous and we left feeling very satisfied.

The service was fantastic, great timing of the dishes, very helpful, very professional wait staff. Finished off a wonderful night, no doubt this is one of the best Shanghai restaurants in Sydney. Thank you LYNN for a memorable night. Not much more I can say! Try it out. Like me, you might be pleasantly surprised.

Ok, ok, so its a little hard to find but isn't that the beauty of it? A hidden gem, a smart modern oriental space in the Castlereagh Club in the Sydney CBD. In saying that, it is just a hop skip from numerous other pubs/ drinking holes and townhall station.

The staff are super friendly and whisk around the space ready to offer their advice on the food and wines available, and the Shanghai shared food concept.

We enjoyed a spicy Schechuan Bamboo Chicken, Steamed Pork Dumplings, pan fried buns, wontons in spicy sauce, soft shell crab and sesame pockets. For dessert we shared sticky rice balls with black sesame fillings, green tea ice cream, steamed pumpkin pastries… all so yummy!

All the food was served in a timely manner. Everything was full of flavour, especially the steamed pork dumplings which was super juicy. The wine choices are ever amazing, and you are often left with the choice to leave your palette in the hands of the waiters who are happy to offer their knowledge. Very well priced with a clean atmosphere. Will be back with friends to share our find!

    The customer is always Wrong.

Food is average but service is absolutely appalling. A farewell lunch for a colleague turned out to be a farewell lunch to this restaurant in general. One half of the table got their meal fairly quickly while the other half waited for about 25 minutes or so.

For starters (no pun intended!) - Few dishes on the menu are misleading and don’t include the full description. e.g. the sauteed string beans and bamboo shoots actually come with ground pork in it. The steamed eggplant in garlic sauce is actually served extremely cold.

We also found the garlic sauce in the steamed eggplant devoid of seasoning and found it completely tasteless to be honest. When we let the staff know, we were offered some more of the sauce to dunk the eggplant in.! How more of the bland sauce would help improve the dish was beyond any of us?!

We were also told that the menu mentioned that this dish would be served cold and when we pointed out that it didn’t, the senior staff replied that since it comes under the list of appetizers - a few of which are served cold, so this would be too. A quick lesson in ‘what shanghai food is supposed to be like’ quickly ensued with no apologies being made.

We tried (albeit unsuccessfully) explaining to the senior staff that we came to Lynn quite often and were quite disappointed on this occasion with what was eventually a plate of cold stodgy tasteless eggplant and if anything could be done? What followed was an explanation of how customers come in and order this dish all the time and this was the first time anyone had complained about this dish… ! as if this was enough to warrant that our feedback had no merit in it.

The only lesson learnt here. How to lose 20 customers in 20 minutes!
