This restaurant is a fav with us. From the moment you walk in the door to the moment you leave the service is fantastic!! Seafood platter is worth the $120 and the dessert degustation is more than worth the price!!
Food: Ordered the seafood platter for two. It was very tasty and fresh. The calamari were very soft and the light creamy lemony sauce over the prawns was truly delicious. Athough fresh, the oysters were a disappointment.
Ambience: The place could use a makeover. The decor is very 1980s and the soft music is a bit cheesy. The view makes up for it all. We went at night and sat right next to the window overlooking the little wharf and river. It was very peaceful.
Service: Impeccable. As one would expect from such a place. The waiters were attentive and efficient without any unnecessary small talk.
Value: The platter for two was $128. For that amount of money I did expect a little bit more. Nevertheless we left satisfied. Next time we will stick to two mains and an entree to share.
My second visit to Lugarno Seafood restaurant was a Monday night and as good as my first visit. We rang and got a table half an hour before arriving and got a great position in the corner window overlooking the river. We were greeted promptly on arrival, and the service remained attentive, friendly and even humourous throughout the evening.
My partner and I enjoy oysters and we had oysters kilpatrick and rockefeller, which were both excellent. We shared the soft shell crab which was tender and delicious. We had the swordfish steak and John Dory fillets for mains and they were both delicious and moist. They were the best fish dishes we'd had in a while. We shared the degustation plate for dessert and we couldn't finish it. There were five desserts and each one was a generous serving.
We never felt like they were economising on serving sizes as every course was a good size and we probably ate more than we intended to (or should). After a great meal like this I occasionally enjoy a cigar and Lugarno Seafood has a humidor in the foyer. No smoking inside of course!
The prices make it an occasional instead of a regular, but well worth it: Great food, service, ambience and views.
This is an once a year place for us. Back again on Sunday with a group of 5 we had a window table for the first time as the restaurant was fairly quiet.
A good time was had by all but I do think it's a bit expensive for what it delivers. The setting is great (memo to self - must try it for lunch), but the food and the service are just good, not great.
We shared a few entrees, the soft-shell crab was nice but nowhere near as fresh and exciting as the one I had recently at a modest Vietnamese joint.
My main course swordfish was a little overdone and hence a bit drier than expected - again, still nice but well short of excellence. My wife had the tuna special which she agreed was one of the more unattractive dishes she has been served. A large rectangular slab of darkish tuna on a greyish bed of a mushroom based ragout was just ... plain ugly and reportedly needed some sort of fresh crunch to it (like sugar snap peas).
For dessert the 5 of us shared the degustation platter which is allegedly designed for 2 but you would have to be keen to attack this as a pair. You get 5 smallish but adequate servings of sweet, tasty treats - a great way to finish for a small group.
The service was only average - no water offered, our waiter ran through the specials far too quickly and even when called back to repeat some details seemed to be in too much of a hurry.
We went here after so many good recommendations, however we were quite disappointed. We were first sat inside right near the door that leads outside to the smoking area. I had rung two weeks in advance and asked for a seat by the window, this was as best they could do? So we asked to move away. Then it took them over half an hour to ask for our order. The food was terrible as was the service. Not a returning customer.
My husband and I went there for our anniversary, and had a truly wonderful evening. Excellent service, great table - overlooking the water and in a nice quiet corner, and the food was just delicious. All in all we couldn't have asked for more -it was a very special romantic evening giving us lasting memories. Will definitely go back.
Parking: we were blessed with a parking space near the front door! Parking is limited as the restaurant is located at the end of the road, down on the water. It is literally at the back of a cul-de-sac. Diners parking back up the street and walking down can see any oncoming traffic from the restaurant.
Awards: on display in the entry. Always good to see when trying a place for the first time. Service: we were acknowledged on arrival and ushered to the bar while a waiter checked our table. We were asked if we minded waiting a few minutes which was a-ok with us, as a couple sitting along the window finished and left. The table was quickly made up for us and we had sunset views over the Georges River and cruisers moored below as a result.
A tasty hors d'eouvre was brought to the table compliments of the chef as soon as we were seated. We waited a little bit for our orders to be taken and our drinks and courses to be brought to the table but in fairness the restaurant was full and all staff were on their feet. It wasn't a huge wait and we certainly didn't have to crawl to the kitchen and beg sustenance.
Ambience: relaxed, somewhere between family-operated-attentive and laidback elegance, a good vibe with most tables placed to take advantage of the water views. A word on the tables, they are a little close together for intimate conversation. You kind of stop every once in a while, with the slight discomfort of wondering whether surrounding parties have heard every word you've said.
Drinks: a good wine list and beverage selection including cocktails. The bar has a variety of middle and top shelf liqueurs and spirits. Food: we shared the mixed seafood entree. As it was a dish for one, it gave us a tiny taste of things to come. We both liked the freshness and zing. I can't remember my main. I liked it, but not enough that it made a lasting impression and I won't holler its virtues from the rooftop.
I tried my partner's chargrilled swordfish and closed my eyes. It had the consistency of thickened whipped cream. Do it. Delicious. We can't comment on the dessert as we were too full to come at the menu. Would we dine here again? Yes.
Felt welcomed from the moment myself and my guests walked in the restaurant. Attentive service and the three course set menu was exceptional and good value for money. Atmosphere was great, good selection of music and even though it was a very busy night we were well looked after and not rushed to get out. I highly recommend Lugarno Seafood Restaurant for a great night out.
First time there. The freshest fish I ever had and the service was spot on. Everyone on the table was pleasantly impressed. Carpark is a bit of a dilemma but the great views make up for it. Definitely going back.
