Came here for dinner with my partner last weekend. The ambience was amazing, the sound of clicking forks and knifes along with chatting throughout the night.
The food was also well prepared. I had the john dory fillet which was well presented. We overall enjoyed our meal especially the ambience.
I was taken there for my birthday recently. We ordered a seafood platter with a Lobster. Seafood was hardly enough for the money and Lobster was drowning in cheese sauce and disgusting! I have been to many seafood places and this must be one of the worst. Our whole table were stunned and disappointed at the food, prices and quantity and quality in the plates. We were charged over $50 extra surcharge for it being a Sunday as well. Ripped off! Female waitresses were very friendly and nice but the males were straight faced and couldn't be bothered smiling. People shop around. There are better places out there for your hard earned money.
I have been going to Lugarno Seafood for years and have always found the food tantalising to the taste buds and the service has always been top notch, great for any occasion, highly recommended.
Although a lovely place with reasonable food, it is a bit on the pricey side, spiro makes you feel welcome but when the bill comes it makes you wonder if all that extra service is included, only for special occasions.
Since my previous review, have been back a few times and found that the food and service fluctuates, though the free valet parking has solved the earlier parking issues. Generally the quality of the food is above average, but is more pedestrian than it used to be and the choices for seafood are disappointing unless you want the seafood platter for two.
Desserts are still good though. 2005 Lugarno Seafood is always excellent, the prices are reasonable for a Seafood restaurant (which is always going to be expensive). Better at lunch-time when you can see the view of the river.
Had been here years ago, and liked it back then so thought I would take my husband here for his birthday dinner. For the entree I had the calamari with chorizo sausage, this to me was more like a salad, it was dissapointing. I asked for the Ravioli with Salmon and Scollops as a main, big mistake, this was disgusting.
The scallops that were in the ravioli were so tough, I have never tasted such chewy scallops in all my life. Creme Brulee was nice, and coffee was decent. The location itself is of the beaten track but it is lovely, we live on the other side of Sydney, so wouldn't rush back here. We didn't have much change for under $200.00, normally I wouldn't have a problem paying this amount if the food was nice, but I felt a bit ripped off. As for set menu, this was never offered to us as an option.
We have been to Lugarnos 5 times, every time the food has been lovely, the lobster mornay is to die for. Last time we noticed that the Crepe Laugarno had been taken off the dessert menu and were disappointed, we mentioned this to them and they promised they would make them for us next time, well they were true to their word, and last night to top off a lovely meal, crepes Lugarno was made especially for our table. Its the little things that add up, and I can do nothing else but let people know that our experience there has always been very good.
I recently went to this restaurant and had a lovely meal although I found the waiting times for our meals to be a bit long.
As for the food, our entree of oysters kilpatrick which were ok but needed a little more liquid. The main meals, however, were fantastic. My boyfriend had the whole baby snapper which he loved and I tried something new on the menu, bouillabaisse, a combination of seafood served in a tomato and basil broth. The staff were particularly excited about this and three waiters came out to serve me my meal which was very, very tasty.
As per usual I had the honeycomb and marshmallow ice-cream sandwich for dessert which was great. The bill was a bit higher than I expected but this was mainly because of the 10% holiday surcharge. I would recommend this place for those who would like a good meal but don't care about price and are not in a hurry.
I am a regular customer and I usually enjoy the service, atmosphere and food on offer, however, the last time I went I was both shocked and appalled at the service and behaviour of the staff towards me. The menu does not clearly specify the type of food on offer. I do not eat any type of red meat, therefore I am unfamiliar with the jargon, type and cut of meat, unless stated.
ordered the eye fillet, thinking it is a piece of fish or seafood, however, when the waiter brought out my dish, it was to my surprise that it was a piece of steak! I know this may sound silly, but I really do not understand the cuts of meat. There is no specification on the menu which categorises the eye fillet as steak or beef or any other type. This is a matter that needs to dealt with, otherwise, someone else may make the same mistake.
I nicely asked the waiter to return the food and bring out a different dish, and he claimed I had to pay the full price of the meal, even though it was thrown away! Not only is this a waste of my money, it is also a matter of principle. The fault lies with the restaurant as they did not specifiy it was red meat! The waiter then implied that I was stupid because I did not know this, I felt embarrassed for myself and my guests as the waiter made a big scene about the situation!
We have been going to this restaurant for a few years, and are always happy with the quality of food and service provided. We actually went on christmas day one year, and asked for the seafood platter instead of the set menu, and the staff were more than happy to accommodate us.
