I think the food here is great! The service is quite good, with quite well-behaved manners. The food at the trolley is sometimes not fresh because it may have been cooked too early, and that the food may get cold when the trolley gets towards you. The food is mostly fresh and I do recommend people coming here! It is cozy in here, with the great comfort and relaxation.
What I want to discuss now is the comments put on this restaurant, and I will give you a reason why you were not happy with this and that. People say that they cannot get a good seat, this is because you probably came in late or you couldn't be bothered to ask for another preferred table. People also is a bit bias in a way, always thinking of negative things. Just enjoy the restaurants not make it close down or something, geez!
Anyway, stop being so bias and just enjoy the meal. Ok! Thankyou for your attention! Edited: (20/8/08)
Went to Lucky Chan’s last Sunday for a birthday Yam cha lunch. We booked for approximately 15. They tucked us in a corner, furthest from the kitchen. By the time the trays arrived there was only some dumplings and usually the same as the last serve.
The service was awful. We ordered drinks, when they arrived they were just put on the table closest to waiter. In the end we just gave up. I was facing the north window toward the river. Because we were in a dark corner the persons sitting on our table opposite me where just a sillouette because of the sun glaring through the window. So conversation was almost impossible. My wife likes sweet wines and asked for a Moselle. Oops no moselle on the list. Then the bill came and it was outrageously expensive.
It was the most horrible lunch at a Chinese restaurant that I have ever had. Absolutely horrible. Lucky Chan is indeed lucky that people do not read the reviews before going there.
Reasonable to average yum-cha but too expensive, and among the worse service I've ever experienced. Inattentive and lazy waiters make you feel rude for wanting to order a drink or get some cutlery for punters that can't use chopsticks, and then they get it all wrong anyway. You were lucky to get our money Lucky Chans...never again.
We felt that we were being rushed, I was in the middle of an entree when my plate was whisked away, there was a sense of bring the food as quickly as possible because we were not eating the really expensive seafood items on the menu. All the food was well cooked but expensive for what we ate. Wine list was reasonably priced.
Hmmm... a little surprised at some of the reviews of this restaurant as I have been here many times and found it very good. First of all, it's not cheap so if this is important don't eat at Lucky's.... pretty simple really, the prices are on the menu afterall.
Now as far as Chinese food goes... my girlfriend is Chinese and let me tell you that generally stuff like "Sweet & Sour Pork" and the infamous "Lemon Chicken" are American style Chinese food, heaps of sugar and deep fried. As a matter of fact if you really want something traditional you either need to ask the owner/manager (who is always hovering around) for a recommendation or you need to read Chinese and get the "other menu".
But, there are still some excellent dishes on the English menu. One dish that is very good if you like duck is the Cantonese style roast duck. We had an eggplant dish that was superb also but you will need to ask for that.... again I can't stress enough if you want something really good talk to the Manager, he has always been very helpful in the past. Forget about coffee here... terrible. If you really want coffee you're better off at the food court afterwards. Overall a good restaurant.
This is a reasonably nice Chinese restaurant - the food is 80's style Chinese - nothing inspired but then again, nothing to offend the palate. Not being local to Melbourne, I assume that you could get this quality of Chinese food at much better prices...?
Never had I ever had this treatment before. It was a night of my 5th year anniversary with my boyfriend and this had to be the low light of my night! The service was appalling, we had to wait 10 minutes before we were seated and trust me, there were plenty of tables. The service was really bad and it seemed as though we were not worthy enough to be a customer.
The food here was so bland, even my mother makes better. To top things off, the bill was the most expensive I have ever seen. Imagine $100 something dollars for 2 dishes, 2 cokes and 2 bowls of rice. Definitely the worst I have ever been to!
Had Yum Cha at Lucky Chan over the Xmas break. The service was below par and the ingredients of the dim sum were fresh but as for the taste it was a bit bland. It is not the place for Yum Cha but perhaps the ala carte for dinner might prove to be a different story.
I have frequented LC's on many occasions and the food is always delicious - banquet B is a favourite. Yes, there are cheaper alternatives and if you are on a budget, LC's is not for you but at the very least, treat yourself once.
