We went along with friends and even though they had booked, we were put on a table out the back (in the dark considering it was a Sunday lunchtime) whereas there was plenty of tables with light in the front. It was an extremely hard place to hold a conversation as the tables were long and the background noise was loud so keep that in mind. The food was mediocre. Well mine was ok, others that I had tasted was worse, some slightly better (except for the garlic bread which was delicious) oh and everything is meat, so vegetarians steer clear.

The problem was that for what it is, where it is the prices were outrageous and on top of that service was appalling. Waiters and waitresses didn't stray from their appointed areas claiming that they couldn't take our orders; it really shouldn't be a challenge just to order. For very bad service and mediocre food, coming out of there having only ordering between two = 2 x mains, 2 slices of garlic bread, 2 soft drinks and 1 beer should NOT cost $100! OUCH!

Atmosphere is very fun and alive. Wait staff are well dressed and friendly. Sometimes when it is busy it is a little difficult to get their attention but nevertheless, when the food comes out it is always a good experience. Normally have the pork knuckle (great) or the sausages (not bad). Portions are quite filling and the beer is awesome. Not a big drinker and don't really like beer, but I think the mango beer was fantastic. Worth giving it a try even if you are not too keen on beer. Price on mains isn't too bad either. Overall it is always a good experience.

Was taken here on a Saturday night and bear in mind am reviewing through the eyes of an old fart, but this place was dreadful. They misplaced our booking for ten, despite a deposit being paid. The dishes I received did not match the description on the menu, i.e. no red cabbage with my steak. Because they had to make up a table for us we got stuck next to the very loud Oom Pah Pah band. Perhaps they help explain why the mens was awash with urine on the floor and the bar area smelt of vomit. Suitable only, at least on the weekend, for bucks nights and hen parties, unless you get an outside table which at least may be a little quieter.

I've been to Lowerbrau on numerous occasions to booze and have always enjoyed the beers and the fun atmosphere but have never eaten there. I went today purely because I found out they do the Bavarian specialty schweinshaxen (roast pork knuckle), which I've endured terrible cravings for since trying it in Munich!

Lowenbrau's ($29) doesn't disappoint: It's huge, tender, juicy and wrapped with a shell of crackling so irresistably crunchy it showers you with golden flakes when you cut into it with your knife. Sure, the accompanying sauerkraut is probably from a bottle, and the mash and gravy are suss but my weakness for schweinshaxen is such that I can overlook this. I also had the bread dumpling ($6.50), however, didn't find it particularly appealing.

The service was very friendly and effective enough at a quiet hour of the day. Unfortunately, eating at Lowenbrau will only be a sometimes thing for me because as others have noted, both beer and food are rather expensive. Apart from these misgivings, I love the Lowenbrau and will come here for some Deutsche boozing anytime.

Since 2003 when I started going their portions became smaller for the same money. However, anyone knowing what to expect of Bavarian food and beer won't be disappointed. Beer is great, especially Franziskaner pale, and food is ok. Everything is fried and it's all meat, so don't expect anything special. For all those expecting fine dining, THIS IS A PUB, although overpriced (don't we have too many of those now?). The band is funny and if you get into it you'll have loads of fun! Platter for 2 will feed 3-4 easily.

Very disappointed! We came on sunday night which is not a busy night and we requested to be seated inside, but n/a. I have been told not to expect too much from the food they serve, but I wasn't expect to be that bad for the price they charged. We all ordered their house special and turned out to be none of us like it. If the house special like that, I can't imagine the other items on the menu. Great entertainment? again we were sitting outside, what do you expect? Will I come back? I don't think so!

Used to visit this place very often a few years back, decided to give it a go with a group of 10 recently. Service was fast, actually too fast! Food definitely below par. Ordered the Schnitzel $30, was massive but very thin, overcooked and crispy, other orders were average, beer was great. We got all meals just as the band started, then asked to leave because we were noisy??? This is supposed to be a noisy place !!... noted on the way out there was a line up to get in, how convenient, will not go back ..

The best part of the Lowenbrau is the atmosphere, its all a bit of fun. The settings look very authentic, and the live band is a nice touch. The food was quite good, although I wouldn't rave about it. The service and value were average. Certainly not good for a quiet night out, but rather for a bit of fun and certainly something different.

Totally agree with Milak's review of 20 March 2008. This is one of those touristy, kitschy places that are just good for a laugh. The band is just classic. Don't go here if you're looking for quiet and/or sophisticated dining.

A group of us went here and had the best time! We were seated with heaps of other groups at long tables so everyone was in the mood to party. It was great listening to the oompah band, and then they had a few games for the punters too. It's a great atmosphere to take a group to and the meals are huge.
