The food (fish mince soup and sirloin stirfry) was nice but way too pricey. Service was mixed: we had one very aloof & condescending waiter and one lovely waiter. Cannot recommend due to poor value for money. You will find similar quality elsewhere for much more reasonable prices.
"Very below average" Chinese food. I'm sorry but it's way too expensive for the food and it's really not that good. Meals came with hardly any meat. Paid $20 for satay beef that was really steamed broccoli and a lousy sauce that would have been better from a jar.
I loved the look of the place and the atmosphere was nice, almost felt like I was in a Chinese garden, but there were dead fish in the tank next to us, not to mention the battle the kitchen staff had every time he pulled out a lobster and dropped it on the floor. Don't bother ... it will be a big let down.
Mixed emotions about this restaurant. Excellent service, especially when we had notified them we had to get to a show, but one of our main dishes was disappointing.
Starters we ordered duck sang choy bow and for mains we had the salt n pepper squid, fillet steak (Chinese style) and the Lotus fried rice. Sang Choy Bow was great and was a nice change from the usual mish mash you can get at suburban restaurants. The squid was most disappointing, very leathery & tough with no taste. Fillet steak was fantastic, full of flavour & tender.
All of the mains were delivered before we'd even finished our entree, which was a bit bizarre but can't complain as we had to get to a show and would rather this than to wait too long.
As mentioned by other reviews this place isn't cheap and it is marginal to say you get value for money. Unfortunately it is probably the location of the restaurant which drives up the prices and for a lar carte dining at Star City all restaurants can be considered expensive. Certainly $17/$18 for a fried rice at any restaurant is a bit over the top. However, I would dine here again, mainly because of the efficient service, to try other dishes, and because it is convenient if you're seeing a performance at Star City.
I have to agree with most of the other poor reviews, eventhough the food was reasonably nice the price was outrageous, next time I go to star city I will remember to eat elsewhere before the show.
Very average Chinese food. We also had a very rude waiter who ruined the mood for the night. My father has a strong Swiss accent and the waiter had a go at him and gave him a lesson on how to say fried rice. We won't return. Very overpriced as well. $7 per imported small prawn.
Best Chinese food I have ever tasted ! The traditional peking duck is by far the best dish on the menu. I have eaten here on more than a dozen occasions and I travel in all the way from Camden.
I was worried about this dining experience after reading some of the reviews. I had 8 guests booked in for a premium banquet meal before a show. I even pre-warned them not to expect to much. I was pleasantly surprised.
The service was friendly and fast. The ambience was perfect, and the restaurant filled quickly. The meals were tastfully presented and varied. We found the prices to be competitive and would certainly dine there again.
Absolutely disgusting and disgraceful restaurant. Went here last night for Valentines' with wife and what a debacle of a night. Firstly do not be deceived by the images in their website, you get the impression of a spectacular colourful Chinese garden with a panoramic cbd backdrop. It is a plaid, boring fatigued suburban Chinese restaurant in star city.
Having said that the night only gets worse, staff were typical abrupt, brusque Chinese waiters lacking any sense of etiquette and finesse fitting for a venue of this calibre.
The duck san choy bow was the only highlight of the night, the lemon prawns with sesame seeds was ABSOLUTE DISAPPOINTING, hardly any sesame seeds, poorly battered prawns and a cheap supermarket quality sauce, poorly presented
the flat rice noodle with prawns and garlic chives was exactly that. A FLAT NOODLE, completely uninspiring and tasteless but the icing on the cake was the bbq combination. For $32 we had the privilage of having this dish served STONE COLD. Yes you heard it, almost UNBELIEVABLE in a place like star city but this dish was appalllingly cold.
Just sheer negligence on behalf of the kitchen. Shame on you. If it was not for my wife begging me not to ruin our Valentine's night, I would have created a riot.
Complete waste of money for what is basic Chinese take away at 3 times the price.
I am astounded how star city management provide licence to these awful, awful operators.
COMPLETELY AT ALL COSTS AVOID THIS DRIVEL LIKE THE PLAGUE.
Having visited Lotus Pond last week, we felt we had to write a review. This restaurant is just wrong on too many levels. Service, quality of food and value.
Service - We didn't get wine till after our entree, every time the waiter(s) came past our table, they constantly knocked me/my chair (we ended up moving our table ourselves). 2 tables nearby complained about not receiving their food (within at least half an hour) and 1 sent it back because it was cold.
Quality of food - We ordered salt and chilli seafood that was appalling. We ate one piece each and sent it back. For $30+ the size of portion and presentation was very poor. The honey chicken was stuck to the plate.
Value - Overall, we can't recommend this restaurant to anyone. Over fried and over priced. Go to Chinatown and any of the $10 meal places would have given this a good run for its money.
For a Chinese restaurant this one does have more ambience and dare I might even put it in the 'classy' category. The food itself is pretty good however, the exhorbitant prices and oddly for a Chinese restaurant the ungenerous portions for really the same dishes one can get in any decent Chinese restaurant at half the cost, make the value here approaching the 'rip off' category. Unless you're stuck in Star City and are dying for Chinese and can't wait ..I'd give this one a miss.
