Where there is still a debate on if they are the oldest pub in Sydney (hero of waterloo also claiming so) I don't believe there is any debate on to Lord Nelson being the best pub in the area with its great home brewed beers and atmosphere, food is also very pub grub style bit on the expensive side but surely delivering quality.
Wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon. The Lord Nelson was a wonderful place to sit back and enjoy the afternoon with our friends who had travelled from the UK. The service was marvelous and food delicious! Will be back soon - Thank you!
Great beer, well looked after and the beef pie I had from the bar menu was absolutely divine. Top class, wish I lived closer to the Rocks. Reminds me of the better gastro pubs in Blightly.
Second time here now. On both occasions (both dinners), i dined in the restaurant upstairs.
The beer is the real drawcard but don't expect VB-type prices. If at least half your reason for dining here is not for the beer, you are wasting your time. Restaurant food is not bad (but not great) but at the price point of about $32 for a main (i know half a dozen classier places that charge under $30), it's not really great value (portions are moderate sized) if you don't use the entertainment card. service is nice and friendly though.
Top stuff. Only gripe it is a little pricey but the beer is sensational. A favourite of mine is having a pint or 1000 of "three sheets" and a ploughmans lunch on a wet cold winters arfo, you could be in the UK.
If you're looking for a place to find beer that is the close to the real thing in the UK look no further. It has a good variety of beers with different gravities. Nelsons Blood is a favourite. Good pork pies avaiable too. A place to go and chat and meet new people, or simply to chill out and relax. Not tried the food but it does look tempting.
Best Pub food going round. Beef pie with mushy peas and gravy or house beer battered fish and chips, how can you go wrong. Friendly staff, great beer and wines on offer make for a fun night. Although beware of the Old Admiral at 6.5% it can sneak up on you!
Great choice of boutique beers on tap and excellent bar food if a little on the pricey side. Can get a bit noisy and crowded on a busy Friday night but is a great spot for lunch on a wintery day. It's a beautiful building with a very authentic 1800's feel so if you feel like taking in a bit of heritage this is a good place to start.
