I've had Linda's recommended to me so many times since I've been in Sydney, I figured I'd take the plunge and take my partner there for his 30th birthday. It certainly did not disappoint! The service was fantastic, with very friendly wait staff. The food was great. We tried the kangaroo for starters, then got the beef and the lamb for mains. I'd certainly recommend both.
For dessert we had the sample platter, just perfect! I think the best thing about Lindas though is the atmosphere. It has such a lovely quiet intimate feel to it. And the fact that it's BYO made it a reasonable price. I'll certainly be going back.
We have eaten at Linda's several times over the past few years. We've found it to be reliably good with an interesting mod oz menu and great seafood specials. The service is friendly and efficient. The bill is always very reasonable, probably helped by the fact that it's BYO.
First try and was disappointed. The duck was dry and the potatoes tasted as if they were cooked the day before then reheated and fried. The Brulee was not set, when enquired was told this is how Linda makes it! Left the duck and potatoes, the waiter didn't even ask if it was satisfactory.
My partner enjoyed the entree and main but the dessert sloppy as well. Is their fridge set at the right temperature I wonder? To be fair the price was reasonable but they sure need some music or ambience.
Classy, yummy, warm & inviting on a cold winter night. Linda's was a wonderful surprise! We’ll be back with or without a special occasion to celebrate.
The best mod oz restaurant in Newtown, consistently yummy, almost impossible to fit three full courses into one tummy. We are locals and have been loyal diners to this place for ten years. I can't believe some of the negative comments on this site, they are just negative people who are impossible to please.
Sure no restaurant is perfect all of the time especially on a busy fri or sat night, but this place is great value for money and the staff are fantastic and the best bit the chef is the one and only Linda which means quality and consistency!
A mid week booking is always best.
My partner and I have been here about 5 times, and the food's reliably good. The only problem I have with it is that the menu never changes. All of the specials are usually fish or seafood (I don't eat either) and the rest of the menu has been the same, give or take one dish, in the four years since I was first there. I live just around the corner so if the menu was more varied I'd love to go there every month or so and try something new.
The only criticism of the food I've had there has been that the soft-centered chocolate pudding was cooked through and like crumbly cake. Other than that boredom is my only complaint, the staff are lovely, you can BYO which is always good, and it's got a great vibe. Please, just change the menu every month and I'll be a devoted customer.
Nice is the one word I would use to sum up Linda's. Everything we had to eat was good, service good; we got a choice of tables and value not too bad. Nothing was mind blowing but we were not disappointed either. Will stay in our mind's as a good back up restaurant.
For a while there Newtown lacked a good white-tablecloth restaurant. Linda's came to the rescue with good food and attentive staff. Sometimes too attentive. For once, on Friday night, the service wasn't rushed. I can understand wanting to get as many people in and out as possible, but if you fork out $140-odd for dinner for two, you don't want to be standing on King Street an hour later wondering what to do the rest of the night. Maybe the trick is to go when it's busy.
