I have only been here for lunch but they are really friendly and it's great that it's also child/baby friendly! Even for 3 Mums and their strollers! I had the chorizo penne which was good and served quickly. I'll be going back again.
From the outside, Limelight doesn't look like anything special, but when you walk in, wow! It's power-punched with some hot green lights, a kylie minogue impersonator, and heaps of bizarre effeminate people behind the bar serving such cocktails as "hard cock", "the green 6 inch mile", and "gorgonzola surprise". We weren't guests at the party, but the very nice staff were welcoming and gave us a gluten-free olive+capsicum platter to compensate for the horribly loud kylie impersonator.
We ordered the salt and pepper lemur for an entree, which was excellent. Very tasty. However, it took almost an hour for us to receive our main course, which was "sweet and sour dolphin in whale fin sauce with croatian vegetables". By the time the Cher impersonator was on, we were so annoyed by the incessant noise that it was difficult to enjoy our meal, which tasted fantastic.
When the 2nd course arrived, the male half-naked waiter tried to give our table a "traditional croatian dance" in his words... which didn't appeal to us, especially as he was holding our meal in his hands. We didn't tip him and just told him to put it on the table. Overall, despite the extreme campyness, limelight serves good food, but the atmosphere might not appeal to everyone. Good prices though.
Went here for dinner Saturday night because it is in the Entertainment book. Well, we will be going back again without the voucher. For entree we had a Mezze plate, tempura prawns, calamari, all were tasty and ample. We had scallop and prawn linguine from the specials board, then from the main menu steak, chicken and veal parmigiana, again plentiful and tasty. All round it was lovely food and warm service. Look forward to going again to sample their new menu.
We had a large group and had the set tapas brought out all night. The Sangria was great, food was ok, some interesting ones but nothing extraordinary. Was Salsa theme night and for only a small amount of people in the restaurant, the music was abit loud at times, particularly at the start. But towards the end it did become fun and overall I think this is a rather nice place I'd visit every now and then... away from the bustling end of Norton street.
This new addition to Leichhardt's thriving dining scene is located at the northern end of Norton Street, opposite the park. The cafe/restaurant is housed in an interesting purpose built structure, with modern concrete and glass lines.
We often venture here for the relaxed semi-outdoor tables, and all day breakfast. They have everything on the menu from breakfast staples (like Eggs Benedict) but often with an Italian twist (say served on Panini). Their coffee is great, and can also be enjoyed with a cake from the cabinet, or in a comfortable lounge style seating area, as well as at tables.
Lunch and dinner include things like pasta dishes, alongside some seafood, and the other things you would expect to see on a modern Australian menu. They have themed a night Salsa, and serve Sangria by the jug, and some specific dishes to match on this evening.
We have now also dined at Limelight for lunch (which has the same menu for lunch and dinner). My partner enjoyed possibly the nicest Lamb Burger ($12.90) I have tried (since Burgerman). As well as lamb fillet, the burger included an excellent garlic-rich tzatziki and haloumi. It was served on a ridiculously huge bed of lovely French Fries.
I tried two tapas style entees - Pan Fried Baby Squid ($14.50) and Sizzling Mushrooms ($11.50). The squid was lightly floured, then pan-fried; and served warm with a salad of rocket, bean sprouts and a lime-rich dressing. I was impressed with the squid, but the mushrooms won me over even more. They were pan fried, then oven baked baby field mushrooms with loads of garlic, oil and chilli flakes, served piping hot on a sizzling plate.
Their menu has quite a few things I would like to try - including a truffled pasta topped with slices of fresh truffle ($38.50) and a seafood plate for one that includes bugs ($39.90). The service is very welcoming, and I look forward to returning soon
A nice addition to the area, well worth checking out.
