Keen to try this new local restaurant my partner and I ventured to Lime 3 for dinner. Service was polite, if not a little sketchy despite only a few tables being occupied on a Saturday night. After being seated in a booth we had to prompt a few times for an ice bucket and glasses but this was minor.
We shared Garlic bread for starters, thinking for $7 a serve it must be bloody good! We received 2 (& ½) pieces, of what tasted like sweet Brioche bread with minimal garlic butter. One of the pieces hadn’t even been buttered or toasted on the other side? Hard to get that wrong one would think but, unfortunately, it really was awful.
My main was better, the Prosciutto wrapped fillet of beef was ordered rare, arrived medium but tender and tasty nonetheless. My partner’s scotch fillet with mushroom sauce was disappointing as the sauce was reminiscent of childhood memories of Gravox with the addition of a few mushrooms thrown in. The more elaborate dishes are obviously done very well, but the basics such as a mushroom sauce or garlic bread are a worry.
BYO is a bonus but I’d be cautious about ordering anything other than the main that I did. I might return, but it’s not high on my list.
My partner and I went to this place today with our 2 years old son. Cafe was fairly busy but the staff were very nice and brought out colouring pencils for our son and a picture to colour in on the back of the kids menu (nice touch).
The staff were knowledgable about their dishes: I asked a question about one of the risottos, and they were able to answer my question immediately without having to check anything. I also overheard the staff recommending some choices to other diners, so they must know the cafes menu pretty well.
Thought the range of choices on the menu were great (menu was well set out), plus good options for the kids (eg if you don't want kids dishes that always seem to come with chips when you go to cafes, then this place has a couple choices that are chips free!). The portion sizes were good for the money (I had the Pumpkin Risotto, my partner had what looked like a huge Burger, it looked nice). Desserts menu was yummy: you can either go for one dessert on its own, or they have a couple choices of 3 desserts on one plate to sample, which sounded very tempting.
Only minor quibble that I have is that although the place/staff are very friendly towards kids, there isn't a change table in the toilets in case halfway through a meal, you really need to suddenly change a youngster! Perhaps they might install something like that in the future. But overall, we were very pleased and would definitely go back there again in the future.
Very family friendly and the food was scrumptious, however, even though it was a quiet night, we had to get up to seek out wait staff to take our orders. Overall a good experience though.
Great restaurant!! We have made it a regular place to go. We have held functions there, the upstairs room was great for our rowdy group. The owner is great she is happy to have chat but gets the work done. The food is great and quick. Give it a go, Lime 3 has a unique menu that differs from al the other cafes up that end of the street.
