Love the live music. We had a ball at Lighthouse last week!!! Just a perfect location for our hen's night, opposite to Roxy!!! We really think this place offers such a great value to entertain friends and family - lots of space that is!
This is a letter I wrote to the Manager on 23 July 2007.
To The Manager
Having found your restaurant via a website search of "fine dining" in the Parramatta area and reading through your menu, we were looking forward to lunch very much last Tuesday. Your website invites people to "enjoy delicious seafood and modern australian dishes". The food images looked inviting.
It is unfortunate that our experience did not meet expectation and, all in all, was extremely disappointing. Out of 9 diners in my group, not one was satisfied with their meal. While the presentation of your food is okay, the quality of your seafood is, at best, very poor. The shellfish and crustaceans on the seafood platter for the most part were dry and tasteless. All cooked items had been seriously over cooked. The cooked fish and the cooked prawns were what can only be described as awful as they had the distinct amonia taste which comes from being frozen. The lobster mornay was fine, but probably because it was coated in cheese sauce.
The hot seafood platters for one faired no better in taste or quality. The chicken and beef and veal meals were also sub-standard in quality and taste. The main meals took over 1 1/2 hours to be served to our table. This is despite only 3 other people dining in the restaurant during the time we were there.
The waitress kept ignoring my Manager (who paid for the meal) on several occasions when it came to serving wine or food. As the person who organised the lunch at your restaurant, this in itself was embarrassing to witness. She was, however, polite.
After lunch, we were not offered dessert. Perhaps, the kitchen had closed by the time we were ready for it. But as mentioned, had it not taken 1 1/2 hours to serve our main, we may have been offered dessert.
With only 12 diners in the restaurant, it is hard to comprehend why it took so long to serve our meals or why they were so poorly cooked.
The pricing of your menu is one of the most expensive in the area which was a contributing factor in making the booking in the first place as a "treat" to the staff from our Manager. At $135.00 per platter, and roughly $30-45 for all other mains, there is an expectation that fresh quality food would be served, not frozen overcooked tasteless food. We have dined at other restaurants within your price range and have found both the service and food quality to be outstanding.
Given the above, you can appreciate our disappointment at not receiving the fine dining experience. What we got instead was a bill for over $800.00 for a lunch which made 4 of us physically ill that evening with the others feeling nauseaus and off colour.
As you can imagine, we will not be recommending your restaurant to any family, friends or colleagues.
Your thoughts on our experience would be welcomed.
- I have not had a response - not surprising - obviously a reflection of how this restaurant is run.
We have eaten here a number of times, and have thoroughly enjoyed each occasion. The seafood platter is large and very tasty. Each time we have dined here it has been exceptionally quiet, so I can't comment on what the service etc would be like on a busy night. Would definitely eat there again.
I have had over twenty years experience in the food/hospitality industry never ever have I been as disappointed with a venue as this so called restaurant.
Although having a firm booking my party was advised that our table was not ready and that we would have to wait. We were led to the downstairs bar area and told to wait. Half an hour passed and no one advised us what was happening, forty five minutes later and we finally were advised that our table was available. My party was squeezed into a very noisy section of the restaurant. After taking our food order it was another hour till we were finally served. My advice to anyone is don't go to this restaurant, give it a big miss.
I went to The Lighthouse for my birthday with my fiance. When he booked he mentioned it was a special occasion and I believe the staff looked after us well. We recieved service with little to no delay. Our food arrived promptly and it was delicious. I loved it. A wonderful dinning experience.
I came here with two friends for a Friday lunch. While the tables around us were relatively empty, it was easy to see that the function rooms were crowded - perhaps that's the reason why the food took so long to be served. We got there at around 12.30 and only got out at 2.30 after only having eaten an entree and main meal. Would have loved to have tried their dessert but there was really no time. The menu was pretty good, a lot of variety but I would advise against the salt and pepper chicken, it just didn't taste like anything. My friends both enjoyed their food though and the servings were quite filling. The waiter who served us was polite but not overly friendly. I wouldn't mind coming back here for dinner though - hopefully the food wouldn't take as long.
This is a letter I sent through to the manager on 18 September 2006:
I ate at your restaurant on Saturday 16 September and had a 7:30pm booking. Firstly I was unimpressed when shown in to the small function room which had the environment of an RSL club. I was looking forward to the views of the Roxy as proudly shown in your website.
One of our party was seated directly in front of the collection point for salt and pepper. As such we constantly had waiters buzzing around her, and at one stage the waiter even knocked that persons jacket off the back of her chair whilst attending to other peoples salt and pepper needs.
I ordered three drinks all evening all of them were served to me by the waiter with her fingers around the top of the glass. Right where I put my lips to drink!! This is one of my pet hates.
The atmosphere was that of an RSL, inside that little room, but also due to the private party in the main restaurant area. I know this can't be helped but perhaps this could have been explained to us when I went to book.
The food was reasonable. I have not problems with that.
When we ordered desert, my friend had to go to a third choice, as his two preferred options were apparently not available. We were most unimpressed with this. At the end of the night there was about a 10 minute delay for us to get the bill. The thing is, the food was OK, but the price paid was way too much for the ambience and poor service we received. I would have got an equivalent service standard and ambience down at Hooters or Chilli's.
I have to completely agree with "the_critic_of_all_critics", the service was appalling, the waitresses rude + forgetful, messing up our order three times. The food was alright but not worth their cost. Definitely will not be going back.
I had high hopes for this restaurant after reading the reviews and from the moment I got off the phone making the reservation for my Dad's 66th birthday. This was our first time to this restaurant and upon arrival the first impression was the grooming of the waiters and waitresses looking very professional and the place looking both romantic and cozy. Impressive. When it came to ordering, my partner asked for the opinion on what some dishes tasted like from the waitress. Her response: "I don't know... I don't know anything from the menu but it tastes nice." Fantastic... A waitress that had zero product knowledge of what she is supposed to be serving.
We are off to a great start. Starters ordered were delicious. The main meals however turned up 45-50mins late. We were thirsty while waiting and would've liked to order wines and drinks. Once the mains arrived, they got one of the meals wrong "Char-grilled Eye Fillet with King Prawns" twice. First it was served overly burnt well done; someone must have a thing for beef jerky steaks. Second time, there was no King Prawns. To make it worse. When I enquired why and where are the Prawns?, the waiter had the nerve to question my order!
The meals, is it tasty? - yes very delicious, the Chef is to be complimented. Filling? No and not worth the money. Why? Firstly it suffers from the tiny serving on a big massive plate syndrome. Secondly the customer service was appalling to be associated with this restaurant. Coming back? Unfortunately no. Recommend to anyone? I didn't enjoy the evening, but to those willing to eat here it may turn out better for you. Needs Improvements? Yes. Hire waiters & waitress who are friendly, courteous and know their product.
