Overview of Last Train to Bombay

Opened in October 2006, The Last Train To Bombay in Crows Nest is the newest in The Last Train To Bombay group of restaurants offering a totally unique Indian fine dining experience.
Owner Harry Virk draws on the expertise of four specialist Indian chefs to deliver a menu of over 70 regional dishes.
The four chefs specialise in different areas of Indian cuisine: Northern Indian, Southern Indian, Tandoori and Chaat (traditional Indian street food), plus desserts and sweets, of which there are over 40 on display.
The Last Train To Bombay in Crows Nest is one of the very few Indian restaurants in Australia offering Chaat, India’s traditional ‘street food’ dishes. Tamarind forms the basis of Chaat cuisine and the sour, fruity flavour combines beautifully with the Indian spices.
Eaten cold as an entrée or for lunch, many dishes are served with lavish amounts of refreshing yoghurt mint, coriander or tamarind sauce.

Food was covered in oil. The beef dish we ordered had a total of 5 small pieces of beef. Poor quality food that does not match the price you pay for it. Never ordering food from here or eating at this restaurant again.

Had weekend lunch here after discovering our favourite South Indian restaurant across the road was closed for lunch. Dosa's were very good but took a very long time to arrive (apparently a problem with the griddle, we were informed afterwards), the butter chicken was classed as "good" by daughter and the vegetarian thali was very pleasant.

All in all not bad at all, although the food did take a bit long to arrive. Waiter was very pleasant.

This is an amazing find for us. We took our young adult kids there last week for a family dinner and it was just the best decision. The service was excellent, lovely people but not intrusive. Our daughter is going to India and they were so helpful giving her tips and tricks of travel.

The food there is amazing, delicious blends of spices, the most tender goat and chicken, delicious black lentil dahl. Condiments were delicious and there were plenty of them. The goat curry is a must! Thoroughly recommend this place. No downside except if you love your deserts, the selection is limited. I'll definitely be going back.

First off, don't believe the opening hours above, and don't bother looking for them on their website, they're not there. At the time of writing, weekend opening hours are from 5.30 pm, so don't turn up at 4 pm like we did! However, Crow's Nest is a pleasant area to while away 90 minutes, and we're glad we did. Excellent food, friendly staff and reasonable service. Well worth a visit, but ring ahead to check opening times!

Eat here regularly and food is tasty but leaves you feeling heavy afterwards as it is high in salt and oil. Dosas and thalis are good and ambience and service are quite good as well. Excellent value.

An altogether disappointing experience. Slow service and extremely noisy. Clearly popular, but I have enjoyed better Indian nearby in Malabar and Nilgiri. This was the last time I will be taking this Train to Bombay.

This is a very good choice for a dinner out with family or friends. The food is great, traditional enough but not boring. Tried Goat for the first time, very tender and flavoursome! Also recommend the Balti Beef dish and the Eggplant from the vegetarian menu. The only minor criticism is the lack of mild dishes, almost everything is pretty spicy. Asking the waiter didn't help much because their definition of "mild" is not the same as mine. Otherwise a very good restaurant for a very reasonable price.

This place is one of my favourites in Crows Nest and we regularly have Sunday lunch here. The food is great and the service is friendly. The thali's, both veggie and non-veggie are very good and the street food is great. Definitely worth a visit.

Well above average. If you can't decide which Indian restaurant to pick in Crows Nest, give this a try. Your wallet will be happy. We've ordered takeaways here at least 8 times, plus it's perfectly fine to dine-in. Lovers of butter chicken won't be disappointed, but take my advice and be adventurous. The Punjabi fish masala is amazing, as is the nehari gosht.

My personal faves are the Goan fish and the lamb rogan josh. Service is courteous and attentive, and always with a smile. No wonder customers keep coming back. Value is great too: we paid just under $80 for 3 dishes with naans. Speaking of which, the Peshwari naan is fantaaaaastic.

If there's one criticism, it's the decor. The theme is halfway between posh hotel lounge and doctor's waiting room. If only they could be imaginative and fill the place with Indian photos, leather chairs and quirky items from old train stations. Oh well, it's close to perfection.

I can't really comment on the ambience, as I've only done take away for the last 3 times. Being of Indian descent and on the venture to find the best indian restaurant, this is great! Not the best but still you can always vouch for fantastic Indian and Authentic food.

And in terms of indian street foods, yum. They have surpassed the surry hills and parramatta India town. If you are thinking of having food, don't even hesitate to book a table for lunch or dinner.
