We went there for breakfast on Sunday at about 11.30 am. I used to live in Lamrock Ave. many years ago and I always liked to go back to the Lamrock Cafe. The cafe looked much run down. Nobody paid attention to us and we had to get up and ask for a menu.
Eventually we were able to order, a flat white which was more like brown milk instead of coffee and eggs benedict with salmon. The food came out within 10 minutes but it was such a disappointment. I had to apologise to my Melbourne friend for taking her to such a lousy place. When walking around Campbell Parade I noticed that other cafes were packed. It looks to me like the word has spread and the locals have abandoned the Lamrock Cafe. I will definitely not go back.
Went for breakfast on Sunday morning. i.e. yesterday. Initial impressions: old dirty menus, old sticky furniture, cutlery that hasn't been cleaned properly. I put up with this since I thought it wouldn't kill me.
Food wise, they didn't have the following: any kind of egg other than scrambled, sausages, mushrooms, ricotta cheese. Also, they only told us about lacking ingredients well after taking our order.
I had my big breakfast sans sausage, which was a poor effort. Undercooked bacon, bland scrambled egg and cold toast. Disappointing that years of poor reviews haven't put this cafe out of its misery. Avoid.
Well I have to say, this is the most enthusiastic I have been about returning to my laptop to rate a cafe/restaurant. So anyway it started with a lovely hour trip to Bondi Beach to walk the main street and view the world famous 'Bondi beach'. Husband and I were pretty hungry so we stopped by the most decent looking place to eat luch. After agreeing to this place we then waited about 15 minutes before we were served, at first we thought it may have been a place you have to order at the main counter yourself, which would've been fine by us, wrong.
The service was just slow, never mind the fact it was 11:15 am and there was only 2 other tables. So my lovely husband approached the waitress to order, he returned within a minute (bad sign) to advise the first dish we were after was 'not available' so we decided on another dish. He returned after another minute to advise the second dish we were after was 'not available', in his wisdom, by this point he had asked the waitress what 'was' available, as he'd figured this was obviously easier.
He returned to advise me, and we chose our final order, attempt number 3, (never mind by this point someone else who arrived 10 minutes after us was served before us) a Ceasar, a salmon salad, a chocky milkshake, with skim milk, and a 'lemon, lime and bitters', we faintly heard our waitress state 'lemonade...ok' and took off, husband assured me that a lemonade instead of a lemon, lime and bitters was fine.
So, anyway, after we sat admiring the view, our waitress returned to advise there was no lemonade, I did try another attempt to ask for a 'lemon, lime and bitters' but she looked a little too dumb founded (maybe it was my Penriff accent) so my husband said 'a coke is fine'.
It took only about 10 minutes for a our meals to come out, first our 'coke' followed by out 'chocky milkshake, which I have so say was damn good (although I have to point out, on each of the 'beverage' deliveries she had 2 drinks and asked us which one was ours, at first I thougt she was joking), my salmon salad (don't know why, but I'd still only give this a 6/10, hold the excessive oil thanks) and my husbands 'Roasted chicken salad', now I don't exactly know where his Caesar ended up but I hope they enjoyed it!
I've since come to the conclusion, after hubby admitted he thought the waitress had a 'pretty sexy accent' he did not want her to get into trouble, so did not mention this to the man he payed the bill too....men! Not to jump ahead of myself, when my husband did pay the bill they advised they did not accept card, cash only. We must have missed the sign, if only I had read the reviews earlier ahhhhh!
I wish there was an option below one because it seems too high of a rating for this place. I planned to go to breakfast with 4 of my friends and, unfortunately, settled to go here (against all previous recommendations). We sat down at a table with a hole in the middle to eventually be given dirty menus containing strange spelling mistakes. When asked for clarification of what a particular item was the waitress simply said "I don't know".
We ordered 3 coffees, one came out completely wrong and the other two completely burnt, coffee and milk. After burning my tongue quite severely I was able to determine that it is probably the worst coffee I have ever had! From someone who drinks a lot of coffee, I would rather get one from the BP than ever have one here again.
Everything here is dirty. I could not even stir my sugar as the teaspoon had food remnants on it. We were brought water, however, the glasses were filthy and couldn't drink out of them. If this is what they send to customers I can only imagine what things are like behind the closed doors of the kitchen.
Needless to say, I decided against breakfast and paid nearly $5 for my hazardous coffee and left. This place has a great spot and so much potential. I am not surprised at any of the previous reviews. There is nothing good about this place. Go further up where you will get a better view, better service and better prices.
Hilarious! The first paragraph of the last review is an exact mirror of our first experience we had at this place. However, on Sunday moring, at the height of breakfast time we tried it again (mainly because we had an Entertainment Book voucher) and had just as bad an experience or should I say 'laughable" experience
This time we ordered a Big Breakfast only to be told that they'd run out of 2 of the 5 ingredients (mushrooms and hash browns) so they offered us an extra sausage instead! I ordered poached eggs which were pretty nice but would have also liked to have had mushrooms but alas there were none.
I then asked for a simple skim latte and was told they had run out of skimmed milk. How can that be? Wouldn't you send the chef out to grab some milk and mushrooms from the nearest convenience store of which there are many just around the corner.
In apology for running out of practically everything we'd asked for, the waiter brought us a dish of 3 types of jam and some vegimite (without any bread). When our so called breakfasts finally arrived, we asked for some butter for the toast and guess what? They'd run out of that too.
The whole experience was such a joke, even our 11 yr old was cracking jokes about it. The tables and chairs on the footpath are disgusting and old and need to be replaced. Given most of them were plastic settings, one would have thought that changing them would have cost virtually nothing and would certainly have made the place look far more inviting
As everyone has said in their previous reviews. It's such a shame that the place is not being used to it's full potential. Unfortunately, it doesn't look as if the owners take the time to look at these reviews and take note that the customers are trying to tell them something.
Terrible! After someone finally came to take our order I was told that there was no seafood available (which eliminates about half the menu). My husband then asked for a Crown lager and was told that they didn't have that but that they had an "Amsterdam Lager which is a type of Crown". When my husband laughed and told the waiter that wasn't true at all the waiter shrugged and replied that most people believed the lie!
I ended up ordering a pasta but when I asked for some cheese to sprinkle on the top was told that they didn't have any cheese... which I presume is the reason that my husband's burger didn't have any despite being described on the menu as having cheese.
Then the people at the next table asked for salt and were told they didn't have any of that, even though there was clearly salt on tables scattered throughout the cafe!
Finally, when we paid the bill the waiter didn't bring the change until I specifically asked for it. And to top it off as we were leaving I noticed that someone at another table had just been served a dish with seafood in it.
It's such a shame that what could be a fantastic place to eat given the views is so, so awful.
If anyone plans to go to this cafe, then they must make sure that they remember actually the prices on the menu.
My friend ordered a fish burger for $12.50 but the bill had charged us $18.60... we come here on the weekend so they have 10% surcharge but still how can $12.50 plus 10% surcharge equal to $18.60? We asked the guy at the counter about the price and he just recalculated the amount and didn't even apologise for it....
I say that they do this on purpose cuz most people don't bother to look at the prices and just pay the bill, that's the way that they can earn the bit extra... becareful!!
It took forever for anyone to bring us a menu. My "berry smoothie" tasted suspiciously like strawberry syrup. They refused to serve the 'breakfast special', (advertised to be available until midday), at 10:30 am. Everything on our bill was charged at greater than the advertised price (between 10% and 30%- I'm not sure how they calculated the prices, and no, it was not a Public Holiday). Unfortunately, I did not have the time or energy for an argument. Do not give this place your business.
The place was terrible. The view is gorgeous but that was the only good part. They refused to change anything on the menu andf when someone wanted to add eggs to their order they said they would have to charge for the breakfast they wanted + the breakfast dish of poached eggs (so you'd get two serves of toast and tomato etc).
The food took ages and everything on the plates of all 4 customers was cold, the poached eggs were very overcooked and more like boiled eggs, the side of mushrooms we ordered was barely cooked at all and inedible. Alot of the drinks were unavailable. Our bill was very high (much higher than we thought, even after our entertainment card discount, sadly we didn't check the prices against the menu..).
Will never go here again and strongly recommend you do not go here!
The staff including the manager, very rude and unable to take a simple order. Although breakfast advertised until 2pm, be warned if they're busy and think they can make more from the 'lunch' menu, they'll stop serving breakfast even if the time is only 12:30pm.
The tables are dirty and chipped / broken, chairs likewise. To make matters worse every item on my bill was charged at a higher price than that on the menu - even taking the 10% surcharge into account. My advice avoid this place. And if you do go there check your bill.
